I have long heard about Le Coucou before about it's traditional and unique take on Parisien cuisine, I was looking for an authentic experience but I have to say I'm extremely disappointed. Compared to other french restaurant in New York like cafe boulud, Daniel, the food is just way below average, not to mention food in Paris. To be fair, I think the decoration and ambience are good, very romantic atmosphere. The service during dining is good, but they totally missed my girlfriend's checked coat. I came for a lunch two course menu. I also ordered pomme frites and a bottle of cider. I have to say the dishes we tried are so disappointing. The foie gras terrine is fine, but the skate cheeks is simply horrible. I don't think the fish is well prepared, the smell is so strong you just cannot enjoy it by itself. You could cover it up by the sauce but the sauce is just so sour for me. For the main course, the chicken and foie gras is ok, but just too rich. Bavette à la Bourguignonne is also so rich you simply cannot finish everything. There is no balance of the dish. The steak itself is so hard on the outside and not tender at all inside. So in general I'm really disappointed. I really like French cuisine and I would really love to say a good word, but Le Coucou just didn't give me much of a choice. I don't know if it's because the lunch menu is significantly worse than the dinner. If that's the case then don't bother to have a lunch menu because people would want to have the same quality of food.

We loved the decor and the service was great. our starters where amazing. We had the Oysters and the Sea Urchin. The Oysters where the best we have ever had. Our main course was slightly disappointing. We had the duck and I expected a different taste. Something was missing...my friend had the Bouillabaisse and she loved it!

Outstanding all around! Both the food and service were incredible. Le CouCou is one of the most professional restaurants at which I have had the pleasure of dining. Definitely worth a trip.

For a special occasion this romantic special restaurant is worth the high pricetag. The food is different and fabulous and the wine list (for French choices) is among the best but quite overpriced

Le Coucou was a nice lunch with beautiful presentations, although somewhat on the pricier side of things. Both of us were full from lunch, even though the portion sizes were not that big due to the richness of the food. If you come, I suggest pairing a lighter dish such as oysters or fish with the heavier meats. My friend got both fried veal and steak and it ended up being too heavy for one meal, and you might miss out on the excellent desert.
Huîtres, Granité aux Algues – Obviously fresh as you would expect from any good restaurant, but I think the seaweed ice added another dimension to the oyster dish. You had the fresh ocean feel from the oyster mixed with this small icy burst for an interesting taste.

Crépinette de Volaille au Foie Gras et Fruits – The chicken itself was well-seasoned but nothing exceptional. What was exceptional, however, was the fruit on top and the foie gras encased in the middle of the chicken. The foie gras became infused with the flavor of the surrounding meat, and alongside the actual sauce on the side combined with a taste of the pineapple and puree made for a single mouth-watering bite.

Baba au Rhum – Definitely one of the better deserts I’ve had, and something to try for anyone going for a desert where the alcohol in it is more than just a hint. Unlike something like Tiramisu where the alcohol is just a small part of the dish, here it was as important as the pastry and the filling. The rum/rum sauce at the bottom was sweet, counter-balancing the heaviness of the rum itself. The pastry itself was light and fluffy, while the filling was smooth and creamy. It all came together in a way that allowed the pastry to absorb the rum, balancing out the taste in a delicate way.

I had a wonderful time at LeCoucou. The service was outstanding, the food was spectacular, and the ambience was beautiful and elegant. Christian, my bartender, was very knowledgeable and suggested exactly the perfect cocktail. Like he read my mind. The somm (forgot his name) was so kind and I thoroughly enjoyed his pairings. My server was professional and very helpful. Thank you all for being such a great lunch date for a solo diner. The host was a little cold and not entirely inviting, but everyone else was just wonderful. Thanks again!

Atmosphere is cozy yet sophisticated. Service was a bit aggressive. Felt like we were being rushed. Had the halibut dish which was very good. Flavorful, light and delicate. Not sure but seemed like the menu was very similar to last year when we came.

Lovely meal. Very very attentive service. Could have used more explaining about what signature dishes there were and perhaps more about the restaurant- like why are the chefs shouting “Oui” so that it’s audible in the dining room... I can guess but I’d like to know!

don’t know why all the Asian will put at inside area, and all the Caucasian are seated at window side. Feels like there’s zone divided for coloured skin.

Consistently one of the best dining experiences that we have in all of New York City. We love George he is our favorite Attendant. The cocktails are amazing you need to have one with any meal I don’t care if it’s breakfast.

Ambiance was beautiful. Food was delicious. Loved the open kitchen with very friendly cooking staff. My only complaint was that the service was TOO FAST! In a lovely dining spot with a beautiful long white singular candle on the table, white table cloth and soft lighting, one expects to linger a bit between and over each course. We felt rushed by our waitress! It was a shame. She was lovely but just served us too fast! We would have liked to have lingered.....

An incredible evening! We booked Le Coucou for my husband ‘s birthday and loved every minute of our evening. Every dish we tried was phenomenal, service impeccable and ambiance was warm, fun and inviting. We had a fantastic time. Will be back.
