This is a great pre or post theatre restaurant. The food is consistently excellent and servers are knowledgeable and attentive. You also can’t beat the price.
Beautiful place right on restaurant row. They offer a price fix the have great choices for your appetizer, entree and desert. Great experience and good food. What more can you ask for!
very nice experience with attentive service and very good food
We enjoyed our visit; however, it was quite cold in the restaurant. We did move our seats to try to avoid the drafts but the floor and walls were very cold. Happy that they had warm soup available. Our server was very attentive.
We are very sorry for the cold, the building next door is under construction and it is very hard to keep up with the extreme cold days. Hopefully they will soon seal their building.
My family celebrated my 60th birthday at Le Rivage. As always the food was delicious and the service was outstanding!
The place was crowded. Tables very close together and hard to navigate. Had to stand in very crowded entry area for 15 minutes despite having a reservation. Service was kind of brusque and harried. Food, wine, and cocktail were outstanding.
We our very sorry for your experience. Unfortunately Valentine’s Day weekend is a very busy andunpredictable state of circumstances. All reservations on opentable do have window of 15 minutes and although we try to avoid any wait it is not an unreasonable amount of time particularly for this holiday weekend. We hope you can come back again to experience our normal activity at a slower pace and have drinks on us. Chef Paul
Everything was good. Not great, but good. Not a bad value at $45 for prix fixe in NYC in the theater district. My evening was a little marred by the mussels spilled on my back, but accidents happen. You could do a lot worse; it was fine.
My sincere apologies for your experience. We would love an opportunity to remedy this review if given the chance. You definitely deserve a free meal on us if only for the mussel accident. Please reach out and be our guest once again. Chef Paul
We had a lovely dinner!! The food was very good and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Prix Fixe meal was excellent and the service went above and beyond. Great pre-broadway show spot.
Went for lunch, pre theater matinee. It was wonderful! Had the pre-fixe for $35 and it was a great. The service was wonderful and the portion sizes are generous.
Valentines Dinner after a show, despite 11:30pm seating, the water and the kitchen were completely on point. He was friendly, welcoming, no rush or late night grumpiness. The food was outstanding, she had steak au poivre and I had roast lamb chops, both were outstanding. We were the last party in the place, nearing 1am and still, no rush, waiter was gracious and fun. It was our second experience at Le Rivage, both times food and service have been outstanding. Highly recommend!!
I ordered the duck. The cherry sauce ruined it. Just avoided ordering this or you’ll feel like you wasted your money.
We are very sorry that the cherry sauce was not good. The sauce unfortunately was changed last minute due to the unavailability of the proper cherries and unfortunately it was too late to change the menu. In hind sight the cherries were maybe too strong and we did not compensate properly, entirely our fault. We would love an opportunity to fix this bad review. Please return for a free entree. This time we will have our long standing recipe for the duck made with an orange sauce.
we went on Valentines day. I am in my early 30s and normally i'd go for something trendy. But La Rivage is so sexy. The waiters, the food, the wine. Absolutely complemented the night. The people were enjoying the atmosphere. I am so happy I chose that place for Valentines day.
Anniversary/ Valentines Day
We had wonderful time and service was excellent considering it was Valentine's Day. Not a doubt will return!!
Tables are REALLY close together making quiet conversation difficult. Next time I will request a better table.
Our experience was very pleasant from the very beginning. The maitre’d was quite rushed but the ladies in the coat check room made up for his curtness as we waited just a few minutes to be seated. Our waiter Ben was attentive and informative (real French accent?). Our food was delicious ( Coq au vin and mussels). We chose from a very generous fixed prix menu so the value was good. We never felt rushed even though they were fairly busy on a Thursday night. Would highly recommend.
Greeter was arrogant and nasty.
Insisted the owner would not allow coats, and then seated is in front of the door.
15 minutes late seating us when we were going to the theatre. Bread was sliced grocery store and not good.
So called special apple tarte was awful.
Sorry we stayed.
Dear Cathy, Nathan I am very sorry for your experience. I see that our coat policy ruined your evening. Unfortunately we have suffered serious consequences and we are no longer able to accommodate coats in the dinning room. We do offer tree coat check for the inconvenience. Your husband did seem to enjoy his part of the night so clearly is wasn’t a total loss. We would love an opportunity to remedy the bad review being that the ill feelings are really based on the coat situation.
Hands down one of the best French restaurants I've been to. I ended up ordering the French Onion soup Burger which was out of this world. Amazing staff and lovely atmosphere. This place is a must if you are in town or live around the area. They also accommodated my vegan friend and completely went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. I'm definitely coming back here. Paul the owner is a Gem!!!
Although it was a busy Wednesday night and the published menu was all prix fixe, the manager let me order a la carte as I requested, which I really appreciated. As always the food was delicious and the service was excellent. And, as I've been finding as I come back here more often, we end up talking to the diners next to us. There are a lot of "regulars" here, and for good reason. For the theater district's Restaurant Row, this is a place of delicious French fare at a fair price.
Great per show place! The quality/price ratio is outstanding.
Very traditional French bistro food. Nothing original, but good, we’ll prices and perfect before a shoe!
I enjoyed my Sunday at Le Rivage, the service was quick without complaint. The French onion burger was rich and with flavor, the fries tasted as the French would make it. The bread pudding tasted as I would make in my kitchen, the three course meal was simple and elegant. Thank you for the experience on a rainy Sunday!
Went for lunch on a Sunday, five people, pre matinee theatre, drinks, food and service, all first rate; will return for sure.
Our second visit! We enjoyed it so much first time came back with friends pre-theater. Just as wonderful!
Had an extremely enjoyable meal with perfectly cooked calves liver & crème brûlée. Mussels appetizer was also delicious.
Le Rivage is our Go-to dinner place pre-theatre. The Prix fixed menu has so many great choices and our meal is ALWAYS delicious. I love everything esp. the Trout Almondine. My husband loves the Beef Bourguignon and the Coq au Vin but everything is good. Also, the Maitre d' has been there forever and does such a great job managing the large crowds and the reservations - he's super organized, patient, and professional. You will not get in before the theatre unless you made reservations, so plan ahead if you want to dine at this NYC gem!
Perfect for a pre-theater dinner! Can't beat the price and the menu options are really wonderful. We loved the service and the host was so nice. We really enjoyed our drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. They run a busy place and do it seamlessly, it was PACKED. We will be back.
Everything from the food to the service was perfect! Me and my wife enjoyed it very much. Quicksand well! we got seated at 6:30 and told them we had a show at 8 and they made sure we got out in plenty of time without feeling rushed.
Great food, friendly waiter, warm environment with lovely paintings in a rustic French restaurant. Great value diner special, too. Would definitely go back.
We had a 4:45PM reservation and were seated promptly. Were thankful we came early as is gave us a little quiet time before all the tables around us filled in. Definitely a tight set-up and you hear the conversations of everyone around you. Food was excellent. Our apps were Butternut Squash Soup and French Onion Soup; Entrees were Seafood Crepe and Coque a vin; Desserts were Crème Brulee and Bread Pudding. All very enjoyable. Soups may have been too heavy of a pick to start though as we were beyond stuffed when we left. With pre-fixe menu, one drink each and tax/tip we were at $150 for dinner for 2. We left at 6pm with a line of people out the door waiting for tables. Happy to have time to walk off our meal before our show that evening!
Loved this restaurant. The Prix Fixe lunch menu was a great value with wonderful choices. Four old friends meeting for lunch and we loved everything! The food, the service, the ambience was just wonderful.
I hope I can get back there soon!
It was just wanted steak and eggs, but they had a prix fixe thing going on and my waiter didn't know how to handle that. He said that he just takes orders and he'd have to ask the manager. So we weren't off to a good start.
The steak wasn't good. I had visions of someone's left over from the night before. I believe it was only one egg. The little bit of frisée salad was the highlight. The steak was tough. The food was common.
I ordered an Aperol Spritz. I was astonished by the bill. With tip, it was nearly $50 for really common food in an old, old-time restaurant. I wouldn't ever go back or recommend it to anyone
we are very sorry for the poor experience at Le Rivage. We seldom get bad reviews such as this, hence the reason for our attempt to contact you and remedy the situation. We are again sorry that you were not receptive to our GM’s attempt to salvage the situation. Everyone can have a bad day, we obviously did and it seems maybe that we also caught you at a bad time. We would still love a second chance.
Middle of the road experience/priced theatre district place. The pre-fixe is a good deal although my roasted chicken was really a chicken cutlet. Service is good. Would recommend.
We are very sorry to hear about your experience. It does seem though that the waiter confused the grilled chicken cutlets for the roast chicken, you are correct, these are two entirely different experiences. I apologize for this. We are not accustomed to being a middle of the road establishment and we would love to invite you back to remedy this. Paul/chef
This was a solid meal on Restaurant Row. The escargot was a little dry and a touch gritty. The Beef Bourguignon had outstanding flavor and the beef was tender and as succulent. The egg noodles it was served on were nothing special. Seafood crepe was a little on the dry side. Desserts were excellently crafted. Apple Tart and Chocolate mouse were great. This is not fine French food but solid French Bistro with hearty entrees. Over all a very nice experiance
Restaurant Week menu was limited. Regular prix fix menu was far more flexible. Escarogot was just okay but seafood crepe was superb. Will return. A bit tight for space...waiters inevitably bump the back of the outside chair.
Service was exceptional. Steamed mussels were fantastic! Apple tart was excellent. Butternut squash soup was scrumptious.
A nice restaurant for a nice dinner. Great selection of foods.
The service was top notch. My plate was super hot, my food however was not. The seafood crepe was heavy and I couldn't get my spoon through the peach in my peach melba dessert. We did enjoy the bisque, pate and chocolate mousse. It was very convenient to our theater. Would probably go back but order a different entre next time.
