After writing many reviews concerning Le Rivage, there is little to say, except it is consistently great.
I can't remember how many years I have dining here; but never once have I or any of the others in my party had a meal we did not love. Service, food, wine, etc., etc. always outstanding.
Looking forward now to my next visit to New York and Le Rivage.
Had the cheese platter and mushroom risotto, both great. Waiter was very friendly and professional. Nice ambiance
Great French cuisine.. Ambiance is nice. Nice wait staff.
We dine at Le Rivage frequently. They are conveniently located in the theatre district. It's one of the rare restaurants where you can actually have conversations at the table without having to shout or use hand signals. The service is always attentive and the food consistently reliable.
We had a split experience. The seafood crepe was excellent, tasty, delicate. The duck (for extra charge, which they waived) was considered by the diner as tough and uncrisped skin. One of us had a good time, the other did not. Salads were excellent, the chocolate mousse was deep, rich, and tasty. The chocolate ice cream, supposedly "double chocolate" was felt to be thin, mushy, and lacking flavor. Guess who had the ice cream to follow the duck?! As noted, a very split camp from us.
Lovely restaurant with great food and great service.
Great French Restaurant, located on restaurant row 46th St NYC. Price fix menu ($43) that includes a decent selection of appetizers, main courses and deserts. Excellent, friendly service.
Pre theater lunch.. Ggreat menu selection and friendly service.
Excellent food and service. Nice ambiance too. Great prix fix theatre value too
We dined at Le Rivage before attending a theatre performance. Though we encountered a lot of traffic due to the 8th Ave. street fair, we were able to enjoy a delicious lunch. The service was excellent and we were not rushed even though the wait staff knew we were going to the theatre.
Very pleasant restaurant. We had the pre-theater prix-fixe menu which is a good value. The food is traditional French and the service was excellent, with no delays. We were able to eat in leisurely fashion and make it to the theater with time to spare.
All was as expected and anticipated. Good service and good food.
Excellent prix fixe menu with service for pre-theatre dining. This is a family-owned restaurant that has been in business for about 40 years!
We had a 5:00 reservation and a 7:30 show and told the waiter we did not want to be rushed and we’re pleasantly surprised when we weren’t and left the restaurant at 7:15 just in time for show. Everything worked out perfectly. Excellent service and fabulous food.
We saw a Broadway show that was over at 3:30 PM and had a difficult time finding a restaurant with reservations for 4:15 PM. Le Rivage was able to accommodate us and we were thrilled that it all worked out so well. We had a fabulous waiter who was pleasant as well as efficient . Our food was excellent . There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our meals form the appetizers to the desserts. The prix fixe at $43 was an excellent value. We were not rushed and had the perfect, oval table in the corner. I highly recommend this restaurant . We will be back!
Good food, friendly service, wonderful live music (accordion and bass), felt like we were in France. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A wonderful pre-theater dinner restaurant. Excellent menu, delicious food and terrific service. Great price! Very close to all theaters.
Great pre-theater pris fix dinner. Great choices and specials. Everything is well prepared.
Sauces too salty and rich, smothering the seafood and chicken
Good, inexpensive (by NY standards) food. Their Prix Fixe menu is awesome. This trip had their salad with homemade dressing, the fettuccine Bolognese and blueberry pie for dessert. The Bolognese was very good and tasty though the sauce not as thick as it should be. Service was mostly very good and very friendly. Will definitely go back!
We go to Le Rivage before or after the theatre. Le Bisque is a favorite. The sauces are divine. I wish Chef Paul taught culinary classes, I would take them all.
The service was not as good this time as usual, it was a Sunday after a Matinee.
We will definitely be back!
always a great meal. perfect for pre theatre and wonderful brunch
Food was bland.
After theater dinner, fun night out type of special occasion. We both had the pris fixe dinners Both meals were culinary quality. My baked mussels, trout almandine and creme Carmel we super, and my wife’s bouff burgenione rich and tender. If you like trying manhattans ask for Marcel’s manhattan, made with rye, dry vermouth and honey clover!
Food is always very good service staff exceptional friendly and professional
Pre-theatre meal with my daughter. We had seafood bisque, escargot, filet mignon and cordon bleu. Filet was ordered medium rare, but came out gray and dry on the sides (the rest was perfect). Swapped fries for mashed potatoes and received only 10 fries. Desserts (ice cream and creme brulee) were just ok. Very crowded as usual, with tight spaces between tables (very hard for someone against the wall to get up and out without moving tables apart), and no ability to have a private conversation. Servers were good, water was replenished regularly, and got out in time for our show. Overall just ok. Too many restaurants in Manhattan to suffer mediocre experiences, so will probably not return.
This is a frequent haunt of ours when in the theater district and we're always treated as celebrities. This time we brought friends who we're absolutely astounded and we know they will return. Ambience and food are always supreme. Always look forward to classic presentation of escargot and pate. Thanks to Julian for exceptional sazeracs (he makes the best!) and Fernando for attentive service.
Steam table food. Fine ambience and good service. What more can I say?
Le Rivage is one of my favorite Restaurant Row go-to spots for pre-theater lunch. The food choices we all made were quite varied, and none disappointed. The service was excellent, and the ambiance superb. This lovely restaurant could have been picked up in Paris and dropped right on its spot in NYC! Again, wonderful all around.
Food, service and ambience are wonderful
One of my favorite French restaurants. Go for many special events.
Wonderful food and service. . A cute little place. We had the $43 prixe fixe pre theatre dinners. My husband had pate and chicken cordon bleu I had bisque therefore I wouldn't want the pre fixe. The only thing I thought was kind of cheesy for a nice little place like this is that they charged for coffee. They certainly could/should include a cup of coffee with the dinner. Happy hour begins at 7 at the bar. I would recommend Le Rivage and was VERY impressed with my soft shell crab.
Very enjoyable food and service
Charming ambience, exceptional attentive service, excellently prepared food
We have been to Le Rivage before and I couldn't wait to have the Beef Bourguignon again. It did not disappoint. We were disappointed though with the Chicken Cordon Blu. Instead of a juicy chicken breast stuffed with ham and swiss and then breaded and baked, it was merely a cutlet with ham and cheese laid atop it and fairly dry. Maybe we missed the fact that it was a fried cutlet on the menu but we will just remember to double-check the next time we're in the city. Though we chose an early dinner (we had skipped lunch and gone to a show) we felt a bit rushed. We think the waiter assumed we were doing the Prix Fixe to get to a show on time, but it would be nicer if he had asked first. Glad to see everything else up to par. We will be back.
The food was tasty and served by friendly, helpful wait staff. The menu is filled with very traditional French dishes. Not a lot of creativity, but good food prepared well. A great option for before theater dining.
Food very good; service very good; staff very friendly; price very good. Always go there when in NYC.
Waiter was weird, somewhat unprofessional attitude
A hidden gem. Excellent food and service, not expensive at all.
Wonderful service. Wonderful Food. Hostess noticed we needed more sauce for our duck dish and brought it to us which really impressed us considering how busy they were. It was packed but welcome to NY. We'd rather they fit everyone in than us not be able to get in! We got to know couples sitting on both sides, where they were from and what shows we were all about to see. If you have social anxiety, probably not the best choice. Otherwise, I definitely recommend!
