L'Escargot is London's oldest and most celebrated French restaurant serving classic French provincial dishes. It also has a great cocktail bar with reasonably priced cocktails and all day dining. Upstairs in the cocktail Bar there are live music acts every weekend.

The restaurant has welcomed luminaries such as Coco Chanel, Charles de Gaulle, Maurice Chevalier, Laurence Olivier, Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon. Princess Diana was a regular and to this day the restaurant is the home of many celebrated personalities.

It is located close to all the major West-End theatres, which makes it an excellent pre and post theatre dining spot.

Sadly this lovely old restaurant seems to have become a tourist haunt. We had the pre theatre menu a the quality was pretty poor. Bread as stale. Onion soup so hot it was inedible and the bread and cheese had totally disintegrated by the time it had cooled down. Steak was tough and fatty. Very disappointing as I remember it as a far better place.

The food was a real delight, with the freshly cooked grilled halibut, Hollandaise sauce, and the tournedos of beef fillet with green peppercorn sauce being particularly delicious. A special mention goes to the succulent soufflé au chocolat. However, it’s unfortunate that the tables are placed so close together, which significantly detracted from the experience. The atmosphere was ruined by five very loud, overly animated women and one man setting nearby. It would have been much better if we had been seated in the second room, which was completely empty.

A delight. Unobtrusive service, beautiful lamb, I could (and probably will) eat it again right now.

This fabulous French restaurant is a firm favourite. We've been here about 4 times in the last year with fine friends. Most recent visit was with a very long time travel friend who has suffered from severe ill health. We both thoroughly enjoyed the food and the friendly service. The atmosphere is wonderful and a reminder of our many visits to Paris. Not cheap but a magic piece of Paris in London. Great food without the need for a passport. Excellent.

Such a beautiful place, and a treat to be able to take my little doggies with me for a fine dining experience. I very much appreciated being placed in the corner with plenty of space for the dogs on the floor, tucked out of the way. The service was excellent and food was all absolutely delicious. I’d highly recommend.

A marvellous meal the Navarin of lamb was exceptional! And the chocolate soufflé to due for. The service wonderfully friendly, just sad that the restaurant was not as busy as it could be. It is also very good value for money! I would highly recommend it!

Having been long on our to do list we finally made it. From the welcome on arrival to goodbye on departure the staff were tremendous. Food well we didn't leave much but did not manage dessert however as we plan to return we will save some room.
