Maze Gordon Ramsay Ratings and Reviews
Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed with my dining experience at Maze, especially for the price. The food was ok but nothing unique or particularly interesting for a Michelin star restaurant. Service was ok as well. Our waitress had very little knowledge of the cocktail list.
The food was very good and the presentation divine. The portions are very small and the price very high. The service was excellent as expected for a restaurant like this but nothing overwhelming. It’s a fine dining experience but not particularly memorable.
For a restaurant by a famous chef, the food was good, but there were no adventure at all. Fairly bland flavors and standard dishes. For example, tuna tartar. Every restaurant in the world have it, can't a master chef come up with something more interesting? Beef and pork was super well cooked, but no interesting flavors. Service was horrific, to the point it was so bad, we started to laugh about it. WOW! Nice waiter, but I asked for a wine list twice.... didn't get it, so I switched to jest get a house red.... had to ask again. Forgot my coffee, had to ask twice, didn't get it. But of course they remembered to put it on the check somehow. Had to start asking other waiters for a check just to get out of there. Over priced for both food and service.
Simply outstanding! There are so many restaurants that claim a lot, have a Michelin star or two or are simply overpriced, but just never seem that special really - so I'm very sceptical. Maze was not cheap, but it was magical - it blew my mind what Mr Ramsey & co are able to do with food. It was an eating experience I shall never forget. The black cod dish was sensational. The pleasure of the pudding was so so intense it was almost unbearable. And all this in a cosy, modern setting with staff who were delightful - suitable informal, knowledgable and on point with their service. I need another special occasion to go back for!
To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I booked this restaurant as my wife is a big fan of Gordon Ramsay, and we have tried many of his restaurants in many different countries. I live in China, so we flew in from Beijing full of excitement, dressed for the occasion, and when we arrived we were directed to the worst located table in the restaurant. My daughter is the designer of the new 'The Ivy' restaurants and she stated that they would never locate one thus. Why so bad? Well when we first sat down, the background music was so loud that none of us could even hear the waitress describe the menu. When I asked for her manager to lower it, a rather pompous senior waitress told me that when the restaurant becomes full, it will be a good level; that never actually happened! The table was also next to a Waiter Station, which in itself is not too bad, but every waiter in our half of the restaurant seemed to need to use it and at one time there were six of them crowding the side of our table, and basically irritating all of us. Oh, and I could see directly into the kitchen staging area and the waste bin, fridge etc.
Having said all of that, the food was really nice and the the plate sharing concept is a great idea, and we did enjoy the dinner itself; especially the desserts. Also, our waitress was extremely helpful, and did try her best to make up for the appalling table.
So, all in all, a massive let down, and a restaurant that I would neither return to, nor recommend to others, especially for the high cost - sorry Gordon; maybe try to instill the same ambience and service we receive in Chelsea.
Maze has a broadly Japanese menu with enough vegetarian options. The service was excellent and the presentation of all the dishes was very good. The only dish which wasn't either good or very good was the seared tofu which lacked a depth of flavour. The spicy aubergine and potato dish was very nice but the standout dish for us was the chilli garlic broccoli. Overall, we were happy with the food and experience.
Please note this review is for Maze Grill.
Service was sub-par - we were ignored for large sections of the evening. At one point the table next to us was so desperate for the waiter to settle the bill I had to shout to get their attention.
Upon commencing your meal, I understand there is a description of the available steaks for the evening as we had not dined at Maze grill before - we did not get this.
When we got out meal - my well done burger ( I ordered medium well) did not have any bacon as listed on the menu - I pointed this out and the manager went and brought me 2 slices on a plate to add on myself.
My dining partner's steak was well done. Again he's asked for medium.
Although our somelier was initially very good, he clearly became quite busy as the nigh wore on - unfortunately for us, he had decanted our wine and it was behind the bar - so I had to ask to be served our wine whenever our glasses were done. The waiters clearly did not get involved with this aspect.
Good points - the bar at Maze Gordon Ramsay is good
The sushi starter and dessert were good.
I wouldn't go back - we paid a £4 cover charge for which you also pay service!! (I.e. The total bill includes cover charge and then service added on top). This seems over the top. Regardless of our experience, we quietly settled out £450 bill for 2 along with its £46 service.
It was a great, unforgettable culinary adventure for us. There was a delicious, refined dishes. I have selected Chef's Menu with 6 dishes. My son has selected Lunch Menu which was also great, and not worse than the Chef's Menu.
Great service was provided by Luigi. He was very professional, kind and nice. We were extremely happy when he has proposed and organized a kitchen tour for us. We were excited and happy.
I highly recommend to everyone when visiting London. Great location, close to Oxford Street.
The bottomless sushi and prosecco was ok but the dishes were all quite similar and aside from miso soup there was nothing else. No salad etc. The staff did not come round as much as in other places to refill either our prosecco or water glasses. I don't know why there was a cover charge in addition to service charge. Wouldn't rush back.
Service was bad, in surprise they seems pushing us to eat fast, servicing us 2 dishes each time, which mean other dishes suiting in table and get cold, we pick the 6 course Menu, and also when we order still water, been asking for room temperature for many times till give us a freeze one. Also the knife was not clean, have to ask them change for me. First time ever feel service is bad and food was cold due to 2 service 2 dishes at a time.
5 star experience all round. From the moment you walk in the service is of a high standard and it continued throughout.
I enjoyed the small plates apart from the pickles and I don't like edamame beans. It did not hinder my experience.
I will definitely go back and try the a la carte menu.
Our waiter was rude. The hostess was annoyed at our presence. There was no flexibility in food preferences. When the waiter was asked "what is strawberry gel", a legitimate question, he responded, "it's a GEL, with no further description, as if we were hard of hearing.
Food is okay-risotto mediocre, cod, too salty, spicy tuna was bland and not at all spicy, bursts salad, bland.
Excellent food, tasting menu vs ale Carte ordering was confusing and was not entirely clarified by the waitstaff. One ala carte and one aide is a sufficient meal. Tasting menu was excellent. Highly recommend the chicken lollipops, California rolls, croquettes, filet of beef and duck entreab Dessert was very good. Wine was expensive for a per glass serving.
Never fails to impress , the food is simply sensational. With a faultless professional and welcoming service. I have tried many of the new places that have opened in more recent times but none equal a meal eaten here. We used the open table offer making the meal fantastic value.
As a foodie group meet up in the evening this was less successful visit than our previous lunchtime meal. We felt slightly left out of the service and had to wait for long periods between courses/attention from any of the servers. The food was fine but we didn't leave on a high!
The deal on open table was at first glance good but it did not include drinks. There was a huge mark up for any drinks there which more than double the bill for the food. The food was otherwise cooked very well but I have been to better Michelin star restaurants where the food was better and I paid less. Not likely to visit this place or any of Gordon Ramsay joints if this is the way they operate.
We had the degustation menu - really only one course was memorable (prawns), there were several courses that were not really up to the standard of the price. Foi Gras course very disappointing - far too cold and lacked flavour.
Wine menu on an ipad was unhelpful and lacked detailed description of the wines - a waste of energy and time.
