Mill On The Exe
The Mill on the Exe is a great place for drinking, eating, meeting and partying. The pubs layout is flexible and can be cosy and casual or spacious and corporate.
Sunday: 09:00 - 22:30
Fab service didn’t get ladies name that service downstairs , but she was great. We were a table of 10 with a few fussy diners. Service was great nothing too much trouble and we were kept informed on food etc . Chefs serving car very friendly and helpful too. Good day😎
We hadn't been to the Mill on the Exe for some considerable time, but as soon as we arrived, we were shown to our pre booked table which was pleasantly situated with a nice view outside. Our server was very professional and immediately organised some pre dinner drinks to our table whilst we studied the menu. There was no pressure to order instantly and as we asked a few questions about the menu, she was more than happy to make enquiries with her colleagues and answered them to our complete satisfaction!
The food arrived sooner than we had anticipated, but was all freshly cooked and was very tasty indeed.
We would thoroughly recommend The Mill On The Exe to anyone wishing to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, quality food at a reasonable price.
Many thanks for looking after us so well.
I enjoy the helpful service we had .. meal good xxxx
We booked for evening meal after citizenship ceremony. The fish was not cooked through. The service was less than expected. The fact that we had the main menue taken off the bill did not make up for a disappointing evening-!!
Menu was a bit restrictive for all tastes,,I.E..No Jacket potatoes...
We had an excellent Sunday lunch. The food was very good.
Special mention for the waitress who was excellent and the chef carving the carvery was fantastic, he was so enthusiastic and welcoming.
The meal was fabulous lots of choice for gluten free
Fish and chips excellent. Steak for two different people was sent back and refunded. Too tough to eat. Ni e out of eleven people happy
Loved it. Will be back. Great service. Lovely food and wine. Fab atmosphere 💕
Visit was for a family birthday dinner. Waiting staff were very helpful and welcoming, bringing water and treats for our dogs. The menu choice was very good, even for picky eaters. Our waitress advised us about special deals that were available and was attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely visit again.
Food was excellent as was the service. Portions of food were very generous.
Great food with opportunity to bring our Jack Russell that's why we came
Drinks ok but please offer ice and lemon for bottled waters and a smile might be helpful
food cold and unseasoned try eating the board bean mash and hummus, whitebait good but why too chucks of white bread and no butter... dry when you eat this? did ask for butter and some arrived steak good and cooked as required peas cold on all three fish and chips batter too thick pale and uncooked and sorry lacks taste and flavor prawn and crab dish prawns really touch and no wipes or water bowl where do we put the shells? was offered a wet wipe!
Ok setting great and chill atmosphere but you need to look at your presentation and menus for taste, bar service poor and unattentive.
salad nicoise extremely oily; they offered me a free drink which was a black coffee worth about £1.50, they should have offered money off the faulty salad
Welcome was good. Party of 7 easily booked. Service was good. Food was good with a good selection. Fantastic place to take dogs
Girlie get together for my birthday. All of us very happy with our food choices and the service was great. Sadly the weather didn't allow us to enjoy the lovely outdoor areas but the indoor area is bright and airy. Will definitely make a return visit.
Experienced the worst service I have ever had!
Took 30 minutes to give us our menus and take a drink order. Once we had finished our main meal our plates were not collected nor were we offered dessert or any additional drinks. It was only when I asked for the bill 50 mins later when I had to go to the bar that anyone came over.
Very good location with plenty of outside and inside seating. The drinks are expensive but the food and setting make it worth a visit. But how can a big operation like St Austel Breweries charge £4.10 a pint of Thatchers and Wetherspoons down the road charge only £2.65!
Great selection on the menu, the food was delicious. The view is wonderful. Overall, aces.
Great meal to celebrate my son's graduation. As he is staying in Exeter will definitely return. Food was amazing with good portion sizes and as good range of gluten free options clearly marked on the menu. A lovely evening spent here.
Waited 3 hours for our main course before giving up and leaving without eating. Was my graduation dinner so extremely disappointed.
A lovely setting ruined by appalling service. We had booked a table to celebrate my son's graduation. On request for a bottle of champagne the waitress was unable to identify the correct bottle . Once it arrived with my intervention, she refused to open it. That was left for me to serve my guests . The time between ordering and the main course was over an hour . Always a bad sign and unacceptable . The staff were poor, not trained and miserable . The management were not visible . The location served acceptable food and has fantastic potential. We will not be going back. I sense the business is complacent and is hiding behind its location . Beware as more disruptive operators will take your business .
A group of 6 people attended for lunch. It took quite a while for the food to arrive, but was only told about the delay in service after waiting for a while already. Most of the dishes was fine and tasty enough but the portion of fish Thai green curry was very tiny and could not really be classed as a main course.
Our waitress was very very attentive and lovely. Unfortunately the bar man was on his own behind the bar and conveyed a very stressed Demeanour. For ordinary pub food it was overpriced.
Service was brilliant, food not so much. Everything was overcooked. Shame. This was our 2nd visit and had returned as food was great previously.
Fabulous setting, but the parking lets it down. There were far more cars in the car park than diners in the pub. Very difficult location to find other parking. The food was fine, but the service very slow and incorrect on three out of four desserts. Rushed because of the fifteen minute walk back to the car, which was on a limited meter.
One or two interesting veggie options, but there should be far more . . .
THE MILL ON THE EXE HAS THE GREAT ADVANTAGE OF ATTRACTIVE SITUATION OVERLOOKING THE EXE. CAR PARKING IS ALSO A GREAT ADVANTAGE.
THE SERVICE IS FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT
tHE FOOD IS NORMAL GASTRO PUB MENU BUT NICELY SERVED AND GOOD VALUE.
IT IS A FAVOURITE LUNCHTIME MEETING PLACE.
A very pleasant atmosphere and welcome. Food was good, but service was a little slow and forgetful. It was the evening of the England match and the restaurant was busy so perhaps understaffed.
When I walked into the bar area there were 3 members of staff stood behind the bar none of which came straight too serve me. I waited 5 minutes to be served with a drink.
When ordering our food the waitress was inattentive. I ordered the corn fed chicken feast off the specials board when the order was read back to us my meal was quoted as the Cajun chicken beast to which we corrected the waitress and ordered the chicken breast. At this point she had taken her attention away from us and was shouting over to a couple who had walked in and tried to sit on an already booked table.
When the food arrived, my meal was resented to me but as the Cajun chicken burger disite in two occasions correcting the waitress as to the chicken breast. To be then told by the quite rude waitress “ the chicken breast is not available and sold out at lunchtime” I had no other option it felt but to take the burger as no menu or alternative was given.
When we had finished our meals the waitress offered us free tea or coffee. I’m sorry this was not good enough. No real apologie was made to us, whilst we were at the mill on the ex.
We havent being to your restaurant for 2 years, we’ve heard good reports from other family members and friends but ou4 experience is one that has left us not wanting to return in a hurry. It’s a lovely setting and somewhere we were hoping to return to over the summer but as thi# experience has somewhat dented our view we are not sure weather we will return in the future at this current point.
We had a great meal, the food was very good as was the service. The only thing that let it down a little was the poor car park, it was too small for the size of the restaurant and parking was difficult.
Otherwise it was great.
Lovely situation by the river. Good food. Staff very helpful to a small group of elderly people.
Great friendly service beautiful setting and fab food! Can't wait to go back!
When we arrived, we waited 15mins before anyone asked what we would like to order, we had not even been offered a drink. We noticed a table actually got up and went to the bar as there was such a shortage of staff. The was one waitress who spent most of her time cleaning tables that no one was sat at instead of attending to customers. On that note our table was very sticky which made us think what was the hygiene of the kitchens like. We were very disappointed as the venue had been recommended to us and it was our 23rd anniversary so wanted to try somewhere with a great setting. We were not offered if we wished to seat outside instead placed on a table which was the main walkway for the bar. On a plus the food was very good but felt the previously mention experienced spoilt the quality of the food.
Rest nice place and great food! Would recommend for friends
Excellent customer service topped off with great food - I will definitely be returning!
Great service and great food, no complaints from me, would go back and very soon!
A infirmal family meal that was memorable for both thoughtfully cooked food and great service.
Lovely setting and food aswell. The restaurant was very busy when we ate, but the service was perfect, main dishes were brought out at the same time as the car very which was an excellent touch.
We choose this pub as it was pet friendly and we are glad we did. Scenic pub good carvery and our waiter was friendly and bubbly
Most meals ordered by the group were poor. Would not recommend.
