We decided to have our end of year Christmas celebration at Philippe, hidden down a Melbourne laneway just off Collins Street and we were treated to a delightful authentic classic French dinner. The food was impeccably cooked and presented whilst the service was faultless, unpretentious and most attentive. I ordered the Tin of CuCa Artisan bonito in olive oil, a novel and delicious hors d'oeuvre, followed by the lamb that was superb it was so tender, accompanied with the potato fries which were delicious. For my final course, I ordered the selection of 3 cheeses which were divine, so smooth and such flavoursome cheeses. We loved the casual yet refined ambience and will return again.

A lovely dinner with great food and drinks, and attentive service. The ambience was not really intimate, very buzzy and a little noisy, and the food came very quickly so it felt a little rushed. But on the whole it was very satisfying.

I had been told Philippe's was the place to go and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing. All courses were delicious and between the two of us we could not fault any of the dishes. The staff were very attentive, probably too attentive. Each course arrived quickly, too quickly for us as we like a break between courses. Overall, definitely an enjoyable evening and we will definitely be back.

Always love eating at Philippe. Authentic honest French bistrot cuisine. Wine a bit pricey but good quality.

Attractive dining room with comfortable seating and lighting and low noise level enabling easy conversation. Service was efficient and timely without being intrusive. Food was modern take on classic French dishes. Duck breast with confit leg shared for two was delicious. Entrees of oysters and asparagus were excellent. The chocolate caramel dessert was a perfect end. Comprehensive wine list ranging from moderate to expensive, & wines by the glass. We would definitely return .

We dined on a Friday night and the restaurant was not even half full, so that added to a lack of ambiance and it seemed there were more staff than patrons. We enjoyed the food, but we were asked at least 10 times by different staff members if "everything was fine/how was the food", which eventually was tiring to answer. After we paid, we got up and walked out and no one said a word to farewell us.
