The road to Lunenburg is a rainbow of rolling landscapes, weathered buildings and ocean views boasting postcard-perfect Maritime scenes. Lunenburg is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and Rime Restaurant + Wine Bar is the coin I added to this pot of gold, in May 2014.
Rime is named for the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, chosen to pay tribute to the nautical and cultural nature of this World UNESCO Heritage town. At Rime, we love to swap stories with our guests, whether they are visiting for the first time or we know them by name, and with the farmers, fishers and producers who are behind each dish we serve.
Of course the food tells a story too – the story of the land, of the producers, the history of a region. Season to season, we are inspired by these stories and our flavours reflect that fresh, local, creative narrative.

We had been to this restaurant space before when it was a different restaurant and the atmosphere felt really alive, which is why I chose it for our anniversary dinner this year. Unfortunately we sat down on the lower level and it really just felt like something was missing from the surroundings. We were there quite early (6PM) because we wanted to take in a “ghost walk” that was meeting outside the restaurant at 7:30. I sent an earlier text to the restaurant and was told this wouldn’t be a problem. We were seated right away and our pre-dinner drinks came quickly afterwards. We had eaten a very late lunch and in the interest of time, we chose to skip the appetizer and order just the mains (plus cocktails and wine). We couldn’t help but notice that a couple who had come in a good 15 minutes after us received their appetizers and their main course before we even got our main course. It was starting to get late and with only 40 minutes to spare, we still hadn’t received our meals. I did get up to ask how much longer it would be and was told the kitchen was going as fast as they could. It just seemed odd to say this because there were hardly any other people in the restaurant at this time. A few minutes later, we got our meals but we felt like we had to rush and were unable to order anything for dessert. The server offered, but by this time we only had 20 minutes to spare and given how long the mains took to arrive, we didn’t want to chance it. So all in all, it wasn’t the most relaxing meal due to the lack of ambience and the 45 minutes it took for our food to arrive even though we explained that we only had 90 minutes and the restaurant was almost empty. The food was just OK. I would probably opt to try a different location in Lunenburg next time. It was disappointing as we were really looking forward to this meal.

Rime is my favourite restaurant in Lunenburg -- a welcoming atmosphere with great service and absolutely delicious food!

Thecservice is wonderful! Great fried chicken and super chowder. Good wine list. There was a big party downstairs so it was noisy but thAts to be expected.

We visited Rime with friends. We were greeted and shown to our table promptly. Our server explained the menu and described the specials of the evening. The food was great! Everyone in our group were very happy with our meals. The ambiance was great and noise level made it easy to carry on a conversation. We all would recommend this restaurant and would love to go back.

We drove all the way to Lunenburg to eat at this restaurant, but were told they were full even though we had a reservation. We went for a walk and came back a half hour later. They were still too full to seat us. We ate across the road at the Salt Shaker Deli which offered excellent service.

Beautiful music playing...great atmosphere...incredibly delicious soup...great wine..delicious fried chicken. Fantastic service and ambience..my dish with beef and scallops wasn’t very tasty. Not many choices on menu. Probably good to stick with haddock.

This was the best meal we had in our 3 week trip to Nova Scotia. The braised rabbit with homemade pasta was outstanding! Small menu but everything is delicious.
