From the moment you get on the Ferry, your experience starts. A Very interesting ferry 'captain' keeps you entertained from the quay to the restaurant. A lovely welcome greets you as you dock and you are ushered to your table within a few shakes. The menu appears right away (if you have not already studied it on the ferry) and while you confirm your choices your drinks orders are taken. By magic your orders are taken by the very attentive staff and yo can relax and take in everything that this splendid place has to offer. The food is quite delicious and when time comes to board your ferry once again you try to think of reasons to stay on!
A really fantastic experience.

Lived up to all our expectations from boat trip out to the fantastic view and the food. All the tables seemed to be by the window, the menu was extensive and we had Thai seafood curry which was just amazing in flavour. How they produce it from a tiny kitchen on the floating restaurant baffled me. Highly recommended

Our second visit and though the weather was not as kind, we were not disappointed. I had lobster, a rare treat for me and it was beautifully cooked, as were the chips and my husband's steak was superb. Medium rare, fabulous taste and so tender.
A bottle of good wine two excellent puds and coffee to complete the experience. What more could you ask for?

From the minute we stepped on the quay to alight the Puffin water taxi we were made to feel special. Once on board we were escorted to out table that was complete with a “happy anniversary “ on it. The food was exceptional’ as was the food. We can’t wait to return next year.

I promised my daughter a boat trip whilst in Italy this summer, but I couldn't arrange one. This was to say sorry and my daughter thought the whole experience was amazing, so a big thank you for getting me out of trouble!
The whole day, from the trip on the Puffin, to passing a sealion, to the views and food, everything was fantastic and our time went far too quickly aboard your restaurant. I would thoroughly recommend the River Exe Cafe to anyone wanting a really brilliant time.

Delicious seafood, and everything else was lovely too, great veggie options and steak, perfect. Fantastic view and a fun trip there and back. We had a special birthday lunch but there were plenty of people who had just come for great fish/burger and chips. We loved the gentle movement on the water, very soothing, but maybe not so great if that makes you queasy.

We stopped here on the drive from Brighton to Devon 18months ago while I was pregnant and this year we brought my 11months old son! His first bot trip and then he conked out for our entire meal! Bonus!
Was a very long drive and so so welcomed the boat, the service and the delicious grub.
I remember the pickled cockles being more pickled the last time but it’s a very very small gripe in an otherwise tremendous meal!

We enjoyed the evening very much, only one thing that would have made it better, was the person who’s birthday treat it was fell ill and could not come with us. But we have another date booked the end of September and hope she will be fine to come, a little late birthday treat. Thanks for great food and wonderful location.

Great experience, from boat trip out and seal spotting to fabulous food.
Only slight disappointment was due to delay on being served on arrival we were very rushed to finish cheese & biscuits, which was extensive and delicious and would of liked another 15 minutes.
Still can't wait until next visit

The whole experience from start to finish was so very enjoyable, from the river taxi out to the River Exe Cafe, the friendly helpful, energetic, sweet staff. As for the food it was amazing, the sirloin steak melted in your mouth, the Thai green curry was so flavourful and the fish in it was cooked to perfection, scallop starter was divine so was the calamari and the mushroom bruschetta and the deserts well they were amazing, we loved every minute, wish we could of stayed longer, great place to visit and dine. Well done to everyone who works there.

Our first trip to the River Exe Cafe did not disappoint after all the good reports we had heard. Loved the little boat trip adventure and the hearty welcome when we arrived. Everyone made us feel like we were arriving at someone's house for lunch. The food was superb, plenty of choice for all tastes, well presented with interesting twists, so so fresh and you wont go away hungry or disappointed. Happy staff kept it all ticking along without any sense of rush at all, and with answers to any question we threw at them. So.... we will be back and would recommend to all, couples, young families, groups and the dog !

I booked the River Exe Cafe for my mum's 60th birthday as I wanted to do something extra special. This place did not disappoint! We all loved the whole experience!
It was so different having to get a water taxi to dinner, boarding the floating pontoon and even being able to watch the sun set whilst eating dinner. We were really lucky with the weather and the views were beautiful.

In regards to the menu, there's lots of fresh seafood as well as good meat and vegetartian options. Desserts are priced at a steep £8.50 and not sure if I'd order one if we were to go again.

If you're in the area, definitely try this place out. I think prebooking is a must as that's how your water taxi is organised, unless you have your own boat.

We will definitely be back!
