"Bringing Gluten-Free Soba to the People"

The Japanese word “soba” refers both to the buckwheat plant as well as the noodles made from buckwheat flour. Soba is typically served in a hot aromatic broth topped with chicken, tempura prawns or a selection of vegetables or served cooled on an elegant bamboo tray with delicate dipping sauce.

Soba is one of the world’s most nutritious food and an abundant source of protein. Containing a well-balanced combination of amino acids, it has the highest protein make-up than any of the grains and is also rich in vitamin. Additionally, soba is low in fat and high in dietary fibre.

Soba’s long and slender shape has come to symbolise stability and longevity. It is traditional in Japan to eat soba (toshi-koshi soba) on New Year’s Eve to acknowledge the passing of the old year and to welcome in the new.

Delicious meal. All dishes were cooked well and they were still hot when delivering to our table.. Good serving size. Service was friendly. In general, everything was reasonably priced. Will go back and try other dishes.

As first-time visitors to this venue, we were absolutely delighted that we chose Shimbashi Soba & Sake Bar for our dinner destination! The food was incredible - truly artistic in presentation and absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was perfect - busy enough to create a vibe but not too busy that you couldn't hold a conversation. Charismatic wait staff. Will definitely be back with friends..

Love eating at Shimbashi, it's always so yum and fresh. And the fact that it's gluten free is a massive bonus. Highly recommend.

The fully Gluten/Dairy/Nut free is incredible for those of us with dietary challenges! Vary rarely can I go to a restaurant and pick from the full menu. 3 of us shared tapas with Soba noodles and rice on the side and food was generous, delicious and good value! Lighting was low and low tables well spaced out so you didn't feel crowded. Noise was low-to moderate depending on how many were at the big high tables. Had a great time. Will come again and recommend!

We were 3 Coeliacs who were able to order and eat anything on the menu. We did book a table! Recommend that you do that. Service was great and the food was delicious. So happy with everything.

I really enjoy the food here, it’s excellent. Gluten free vegan options are amazing and it’s a nice venue. The only downside is the service - I’ve been a number of times and the staff do not come back to check if dessert or drinks are wanted or to bring new water. You have to try to flag them down

Shimbashi served completely gluten free and coeliac safe food, the entire restaurant being free from all gluten products as well as dairy and nuts. This made for a stress free and enjoyable meal with endless options. the serving sized were very decent leaving us full and entrees were a decent size for a family of 4 to all try. The service was great and staff were informative and provided suggestions when asked.

The ambience is relaxed, cosy and slightly upscale-casual, low lighting, friendly staff, and tasteful presentation. Guests often describe it as lively enough to create a vibe but quiet enough for conversation; noise levels range from low to moderate depending on table size and time. Overall it’s comfortable for date nights, small family dinners, or a solo weeknight meal.

Casual dress is appropriate. The owner lists the dress code as Casual Dress, and guests commonly visit for both relaxed weeknight dinners and special occasions without formal attire.

The best time depends on your goal: go early (5:30–6:30 pm) for happy-hour value on small dishes and a quieter table; weekdays and lunchtime are generally more low-key. Evenings and weekends can be busier but still lively without being overly noisy, making it great for social dinners. If you prefer a calm meal, aim for an early weeknight booking.

Busiest: evening service (after 6:30 pm) and weekends tend to be livelier. Quietest: early dinners (around opening for dinner/happy hour) and weekday lunchtimes are the calmest times. Yes, families do dine here, and guests frequently bring teens or celebrate birthdays with children. The menu is focused on Japanese small and medium plates rather than a dedicated kids’ menu, so plan to share dishes or pick simpler soba or rice options. For younger children consider an early seating and mention your needs when booking.
