We're a small Brighton-based coffee roaster with 6 cafés over Brighton and Hove. At Small Batch in Norfolk Square we're serving up fresh coffees, pastries and sandwiches every single day, and our full brunch menu from Thursday to Sunday. From Shakshuka and Full English (both meaty and vegan) to fluffy pancakes and warm waffles.

Plus, we've partnered with Hove-based Madame Jennifer Distillery to create a signature coffee liqueur, which is used in our coffee-based cocktails including Espresso Martinis, alongside classics such as Bloody Mary and Porn Star Martini.

When we sat down we were told due to supplier issues there was no pancakes or waffles, but everything else was on the menu. When we went to order we were told ‘we don’t have any food’ without any apology for the situation or explanation of what had changed in the 20 minutes it took us to order. We were sat right next to the till and no one ordered food in that time.

Loads of stuff was crossed out on the menu and the staff were a bit indifferent. Had to send back a coffee because it was cold. One of the eggs was raw and the portion sizes were really small compared to what we paid for them. Would not rush back.

Food was cold, muffins barely toasted on eggs Benedict so was not pleasant to eat. First 2 glasses of bottomless Prosecco were obviously from an old open bottle as were flat. Many items on menu unavailable. Staff courteous and kind. Espresso Martinis we’re good.

Sat for 10 mins inside amongst loud barking dogs. Had enough so all four of us left before food came. Shame they allow noisy dogs because place seems nice.
