About STK – Chicago
STK artfully blends two concepts into one—the modern steakhouse and a chic lounge. A large central lounge area is furnished with creamy leather banquettes and textured crocodile tiles, and is surrounded by an elevated dining room for more formal dining. Theatrical lights illuminate each table, while a DJ creates an energetic vibe throughout the entire space. STK Chicago is located in the heart of River North and, as anticipated, steak is the main attraction. STK offers small, medium and large cuts of meat, as well as naturally raised options, and even wagyu and Kobe for the decadent dinners. Aside from steak, signature items include Parmesan Truffle Fries; Lil’ BRGs; Sweet Corn Pudding; and Jumbo Lump Crab Salad.

STK – Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Very nice atmosphere. Would not seat us until the whole party arrived despite many empty tables, that seemed unnecessary. Also we were there for my husband's birthday and they didn't give us anything special at all for the birthday, not even a tiny cookie or brownie, which is their right of course but most places do. The music was very nice and our server was great.
The waitress was great. We were one of 2 tables on a Sunday night. There must have been something going on in the kitchen. It took an hour to receive our food and one entree came out 30 minutes later than all the others. Waitress felt terrible and kept the drinks coming
My husband and I done out often and it takes a lot to woohoo us! STK knocked our socks off on Saturday. Our server Petros was so fun and right on top of things. The music was fun, the food delicious and the champagne and martinis perfectly chilled. Started with the Brussels sprouts salad then enjoyed one of the best pepper steaks we have ever had. Maple, pecan donuts with chocolate martinis finished out night out with a bang. Thank you Petros for an amazing Chicago dinner.
I was EXTREMELY upset because the menu was altered. The one thing my boyfriend and I went for on his birthday, which was lobster tails, was not on your menu. The salad I liked wasn't on there either. I ordered a chilled lobster and was expecting something much more than what I received for $42. I can go to red lobster and get many more lobster tails for that price! My boyfriends birthday celebration ended up being a total fail. I will not recommend this place to anyone and will NEVER visit this place again!!
This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in Chicago. Among the problems: One person in our party didn't get his drink until 1 HOUR after we got there; the appetizers came at all different times; the cod was cold when it arrived; the kitchen couldn't make the bread; they were out of the Porterhouse -- at a STEAK restaurant known for the Porterhouse. It was such a horrible experience.
Wonderful food, service was exceptional. We are a middle age couple, had 6:00pm reservations had a relaxing dinner at a table by the window. Boxton, our server was excellent! Gave us suggestions as he was quite knowledgeable which enhanced the experience. Truffle butter on my steak was worth every penny. My wife had the black cod which was very good! Everything was cooked to perfection..
I found out about STK the previous week. It was my birthday weekend along with my best friend. I met him at STK shortly before they closed for drinks after he and his girlfriend has finished dinner. The vibe was great and they said the food was pretty good as well. So, I brought my fiancee back the following week for and early Mother's Day dinner. She was surprised and really enjoyed our evening. The steaks were cooked perfectly! I tried the New York which I don't typically get but it was pretty good (there is no avoiding some fat and marbling). I tried some of my fiancee's filet and it was tremendous!!!! The STK sauce is something that I would buy if it came in a bottle. The DJ played great music, Hillary was an awesome, attentive sever. We will definitely be back. STK is wonderful. I will mention this though. When we walked in the security guy looked me up and down (twice looking at my shoes - I was wearing Cole Haans casual shoes). I do remember reading about a dress code somewhere. But I had on a collared shirt and I was wearing a blazer with jeans. But the funny thing is, as we are sitting down during dinner, in walks about 5 future NBA draft picks (the NBA combine is in town) with hoodies, jogging pants, gym shoes and their agent I'm assuming - (the agent was wearing neon multi-color Nike Airmax GYM SHOES. I'm just saying - I wonder if the got the same looking up and down treatment. I doubt it. But I guess dress code is for us mere 9 to 5 working guys.
If it's too loud...you're too old. I am a pretty hip guy and at one time could tear up Las Vegas for the weekend...but I failed to read the description of STK before booking dinner for my GF's 40th. I went here expecting a traditional steak house feel but got a nightclub with great food. Nothing wrong with that it just wasn't what I was looking for. Really has a night club atmosphere with most women dressing (or not dressing) very provocatively. So if you are looking for a high energy place to take your arm candy for a great meal! You're table is waiting!
I have been to the STK in Vegas so I insisted on coming to the one here in Chicago. My first experience was amazing so I suggested going with my girlfriends for my birthday over the weekend, and it was a whole different experience.
First of all. They packed 8 women into one small booth with a couple of chairs so we felt like sardines. Secondly we had the worst server I have ever had in downtown Chicago. Probably anywhere. For being as expensive as it was, the waiter acted like we were a complete waste of his time. As if we were holding him back from something better. And there was hardly anyone in the place. On several occasions, he even walked away from the table mid order to do something else. He would come with one drink and forget the rest. At dessert he walked away without letting us finish speaking to where he forgot half of our order.
I could blame the loud music but we're a loud group of women so he definitely would have heard us if he tried to listen. Guess it was too much to ask
Tremendous food and upbeat vibe but places like this can be found several places in the city so I'll be going there instead.
The restaurant is beautiful and very chic! The food was fabulous except for the lobster mac and cheese-it was just ok.
Our server Hillary was beyond fantastic and made our experience great! She had great suggestions and accommodated all of our requests . The DJ was great too!
We were disappointed that we had walk down the street and around the corner for valet parking in the cold rain-not cool at all!!
Finally got some time to have dinner at STK and it was definitely worth the wait. I enjoyed everything from the dj, food and drinks all thanks to our server, Hillary! We asked Hillary about different items on the menu and everything she suggested was spot on. She was not only knowledgeable about the food and drinks, but was extremely energetic and prompt. Will definitely be returning and requesting a table in Hillary's section.
STK was nice, it just wasn't anything special. With so many great food options (and steakhouses in particular) in Chicago, I would go somewhere else before I returned to STK. Having said that, the interior was beautiful and our server, Hillary, was great and checked on us regularly. She also gave us a rundown on their happy hour specials, which I might consider returning to try (good deals on oysters). Food was just hit and miss. The fresh bread was tasty, and my boyfriend liked his steak. But the grilled octopus was disappointing, that's a hard pass. My entree (the market fish) was so-so. Basically the place has potential, but falls a little short. I'd try Bavette's instead if you want a great date spot and amazing food at a comparable price point.
I was here over the weekend for my birthday. I was so excited to try this place!!! The ambiance was fabulous! It is a very hip and modern steakhouse. There was a really good DJ playing great music. It was sometimes a little hard to have conversations with my guests, but everyone loved it!
If you like spicy drinks the green intensity is insanely good! The rest of the drinks were waaaaaay too sweet or watered down for my liking. Several ones I tried were actually borderline tasteless. Perhaps it was the bartender's first night, but they really need to do something about that.
It was a decent meal. I was a little bummed that I ordered my bone in rib steak medium rare and it came out medium, but it was still very flavorful and good I did not feel it was necessary to co
mplain. The brussels sprouts were out of this world. Mac and Cheese is very good too. The Parmesan fries were another great side. The foraged mushrooms were awful. No flavor at all. We also had the beef tartare which was different than most places but excellent flavor. It would have been nice if the egg had come out runny, but it was completely cooked (a little strange since it is a cold dish or raw meat!).
The biggest complaint/turn off I have from the dinner is when one of the hostesses invited me down to the bar for a complimentary birthday shot towards the end of our dinner. I get down there and she says, "bring the whole table, we are backed up and need your table." Our final bill was $689. That is how you treat customers who just paid a pretty penny? Not good. Our waiter was very nice, but in my eyes as a whole of the evening, the service (because of this) was horrific. My entire party was completely shocked and it left a VERY bad taste in our mouths. To add insult on top of injury, the "shots" were just tropical juice! Unreal.
Would I recommend this place to a friend? Maybe...but I would probably recommend RPM Steak over STK. Much better flavor, preparation and quality for the price!
