A reservation must be modified or cancelled no later than 5 PM the night prior to the reservation date. For any cancellations after the deadline, there will be a charge of $50.00 plus tax per person.
We serve 2 omakase courses, both a 12 piece and 16 piece course. We feature seasonal fish on a daily basis, often accommodating the individual preferences, such as kosher style. However, there’s no vegetarian, vegan nor strict
gluten free alternatives.
We are open from Tuesday to Sunday and offer 3 seatings, 5:30 PM, 7:15 PM and 9:00 PM, except Sundays, when the last seating is 9 PM. We are closed Mondays.
Wonderful birthday celebration! Each piece enjoyable to the last bite. Chef Kei so knowledgeable about all his fish. We will be back!
Amazing Omakase and great chef. Must make a reservation as it's omakase only so there is only counter seating. Great value as it is not as expensive as other omakese's in NYC.
If you are looking for an unusual place to have sushi prepared before your eyes, Sushi Kaito is the place for you. You must make a reservation as the space is small and can only hold about twenty people at a time. The sushi chefs, artists all of them, explain and prepare the food directly in front of you. The preparation is amazing and great fun to watch. This is not to say they are trying to entertain you with the preparation of each sushi dish. It is a marvel to watch the food being prepared with skill and confidence. The taste of each piece is astounding. After your 12 or 16 course meal you will feel quite satisfied. You will also feel the price of the meal was well worth it. My most recent visit was my fifth, and I and my friends will be back for more.
If you like omakase and can tell a sushi chef what you don't like, you will not be disappointed. The whole place has maybe 12 seats and everything is made right in front of you. You can have 12 pieces for $90 or 16 pieces for $120. This is a no-tipping restaurant as the wait staff is salaried but you can give the chef cash if you appreciate his services and talents.
Very fresh seafood and great service. My favorite omakase spot in NY.
15 seats, gracious service, outstanding quality and presentation
Great as always. I have been going once every 2-3 months since it opened and has been and continues to be one of the best omakases in NYC.
Every bite was delicious and made just right. Very fresh ingredients and the service was great. Great sushi spot on the UWS.
Beautiful fish and rice and a good value at the price. The staff was gracious and kind.
The words to fully explain the perfection of Sushi Kaito escape me. The artistry, grace, and care that went into our omakase experience was readily apparent and very much appreciated. For me, this restaurant sets the standard for what sushi should be.
We have had omakase several places, but were not really impressed by Sushi Kaito. Everything average, and although we expected NYC to be expensive, the food and ambience did not justify the price.
This is our second time at this restaurant. It’s very small with 12 seats at the sushi bar. The atmosphere is quiet with lightly piped in music. The food was exceptional!!
Excellent experience and very fresh fish
always love coming here - great bang for your buck. chefs and waitstaff are always very professional and friendly. the fish is very fresh and light - yet tasteful. the chef always takes time to explain what fish it is and where it is from. ive been to many sushi omakase places around nyc (both very high and more budget-friendly) and this place is one of my favorites. been here multiple times and will continue to come back!
Amazing sushi! Best value and quality mix I’ve found in manhattan! The quality superb and the technique and skills amazing!
Such a great experience with amazing food. Have been several times and always look forward to going again.
Went for anniversary dinner and was an excellent time. Quiet unassuming good service great fish and rice quality and amazing value overall.
Great value for Omakase. Top notch quality fish and excellent sushi preparation!
Sushi Kaito is one of the few sushi shops that still understands and captures the essence of sushi. Their weapon of choice is the freshness of the fish in conjunction with proper preparation techniques. Most diners are not aware that almost all fish used for sushi must be aged properly and served at the peak of flavor, which can differ depending on the kind of fish. When creativity and extra touches are added, it is always within the boundaries of true authenticity. Sushi Kaito is a very necessary restaurant that advocates the gradual transition away from sushi ignorance that is still highly prevalent today.
Remarkable experience from start to finish. My husband and I couldn’t be happier to have found this hidden gem in our neighborhood. We will definitely be back!
We had a fantastic time. The food was excellent, the noise level was perfect and the wait staff was extremely attentive. Price was reasonable, especially now that they have a liquor license I was expecting it to be more. The only negative about the evening was that we had a very, very difficult time understanding our chef and felt bad having to ask what he was saying 3 and 4 times so sometimes we ate a course and didn’t even know what it was. Other than that, it was an outstanding experience.
The food was amazing, and the staff were super friendly! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!
Food was fantastic. Sushi chef was knowledgeable and friendly. Overall a great dining experience. I was extremely pleased with service and the meal. I would highly recommend.
Excellent meal, as usual
Amazing food and service. Thank you
Great experience. Great food. Friendly servers and sushi chefs. Individual attention from sushi chef. Very accomodating. Sushi was like butter. They could have served it a little slower.
I have been to Sushi Kaito about 4 times and it is consistently excellent. Fresh and delicious. It is simple, unadulterated sushi. A great experience every time ! And Love chef Aue!
Never be disappointed by the quality of sushi here, even after they’ve got the liquor license(price is higher), the sushi is consistent.
Nice materials and basic preparation.Problem was the sushi rice(shari), is too soft. Separates it from a truly first class establishment. I guess most clients don’t find this problematic, but I do. Hopefully they will make an effort to improve this.
Amazing omakase meal!
Beautiful experience from start to finish.. the impeccable fish artful and delicious presentation great sake selection, perfect wait staff.. all I could ask for
Our amazing chef guided us through a terrific array of uniquely prepared nigiri and sashimi. This is not your average sushi experience.
Amazing quality sushi and attention to detail. A true destination-worthy UWS restaurant.
Great value for what you get! Very friendly staff and very fresh and unique sushi.
An authentic Omakase experience. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt like honored guests. It's a quaint restaurant with only 12 seats at the counter. It felt like we were watching a show - a sushi show. We had two options for our meal - 12 or 16 piece meals. Figuring 12 pieces would be filling, we went with that option. We also ordered a bottle of wine to complement the meal. It was a parade of delicious, fresh fish and I was sad when the meal ended. I enjoyed the individual attention. They were happy to answer any of our questions. I wish we had something like this closer to home. I can't wait to go back. Reservations are certainly a must.
Absolutely speechless. This is my first omakase and I'm extremely happy this was my first. The service was incredible and the chefs were amazing. Everything was incredibly delicious! Everything! Please, choose the 16 piece omakase. It is absolutely worth every penny. The chefs give you a short description of what you're having including the english name and japanese name. Wonderful learning experience. Definitely coming back. The whole staff (chefs included) are incredibly nice. I highly recommend them! I went back to my hotel with a huge smile on my face!
The food was amazing. There were some particularly outstanding, o-toro, scallop with charcoal salt and seabream, but it was all very very good. It’s quiet but not stuffy inside and the 3 sushi chefs are attentive and pleasant. Would definitely return.
This was absolutely perfect sushi - fresh, expertly cut, seasoned and presented. Each of the 16 individual pieces and the one hand-roll was unique - different fish, different texture, varied seasonings. Omikase (chef's choice). Great pacing allowed the dinner to be an hour and a half. Not inexpensive, but an extravagant treat I would gladly repeat.
