Welcome to Tahona! We are the first mezcal bar and tasting room in San Diego. In our restaurant, we invite you to taste our incredible craft cocktails and our amazing contemporary Mexican cuisine featuring Oaxacan bites. In our tasting room, we welcome you to indulge on a mezcal tasting experience!

We are located next one of the most iconic historical landmark: the Campo Santo Cemetery in Old Town. Inside Tahona, you will be transported to a modern Mexican hacienda designed with hand painted tiles, handmade rope seats, traditionally crafted fabric brought from Oaxaca, hand clayed walls and more.

We also have a cozy covered outdoor patio dining experience so you will have the choice to dine inside our hacienda or on the streets of Old Town!

Tahona was wonderful! The cocktails were all top-notch, our server went above and beyond in offering recommendations, and the chef was creative in accommodating our dietary restrictions (since it was a relatively slow night). Would definitely go again!

The cocktails are excellent and well presented. Food is very original, fresh and tasty. Portions are very small though. The thing that was tough on us is the noise. You can’t have a conversation unless you shout at each other which is not our idea of fun. Will try outdoors next time…

Love the food the drinks the service. The acoustics made it difficult to hear each other, perhaps also due to an unusually exuberant group of 12 nearby. The foos was a unique twist on Mexican. Everything was delicious and interesting.

Absolutely great food!!! This kitchen is on fire. Mussel tacos and green goddess tacos were delicious and innovative. Cocktails we’re very good. Flan dessert was amazing. Our waiter was either disinterested or overwhelmed. Once I got used to having a wave my arms to catch his attention, things moved more swiftly. Otherwise it was a loooong wait until he noticed us.

The ambiance was very romantic and relaxing at first, so I recommend an early reservation if you're on a date or you like quieter restaurants. The restaurant isn't very big, so it does get louder when it fills up. The mezcal cocktails and Empanadas were delicious. The tacos were very good too. We had the Quesabirria and Diablo Shrimp tacos. We went on Tuesday, and weren't aware that the menu was limited for Taco Tuesday. Full menu isn't available that night. We want to go back and try the other dishes.

Food was incredible. Service was worst I have ever had - However the waiters were super nice.. they just forgot about us.. not once..not twice but three times. It was a birthday dinner for my sister so I was Sad that it was the experience. They did comp everything but the appetizers because they came out on time.. total wait time was around 2 hours to see our meal! But like I said.. they were nice about it..just sucked via the experience!

The flavor profiles are off putting and inconsistent. The crab tostada was not well put together with off putting favors and textures (tasted like canned tuna salad). The churro dessert is a cheap way of serving a really nice pastry. Not a good translation in flavor or product.

Decided to grab dinner here, that night they were having some kitchen trouble. We didn't mind eating something other then tacos. So we got a bunch of appetizers. The guacamole was a disappointment, it lacked flavor. The carnitas bao bun was the highlight of the night. So get this if you go. The kitchen issue was resolved, so we got the carnitas and steak tacos. They did not disappoint. The service was great, very attentive.

This establishment is amazing and very unique. The atmosphere is welcoming as is the staff. You feel like you enjoying dinner and drinks in someone's home. The bar is cozy and friendly. Excellent cocktails and delicious fare. Mario and Zack were great. Will be a returning guest. Need to book a res for the speakeasy as I understand is very popular. All of us really really enjoyed our time at Tahona.

The location was in old town San Diego, so parking was not too difficult to get. We had an 8:00 pm reservation, but we’re able to get seated earlier. As soon as we were seated, they dropped off some waters for our party, but nobody came by to take our order for another 20 minutes. Once we were able to get our food ordered, we took turns ti get to the restroom, and that’s where our experience started to go down. Of the 2 gender neutral restrooms, one door did not lock, so different patrons were constantly walking in in each other, and the restroom that did lock, was dirty. When our food arrived, it was delicious, but it was a challenge to get our servers attention to add to our order, such as dessert or get refills on drinks. When we put in our dessert order, we were disappointed to find out that some menu items are no longer being made, despite it being on their online menu, which is part of why we wanted to dine here again. We left after paying our bill and do not have any plans to return any time soon. Might be Williams by to revisit if recent reviews mention a significant change.

We came for a dinner birthday celebration and we brought 2 young adults who don't drink, that being said...the service and food were great! I tried a plain original flavored margarita,, which was very tasty, howeverI really would considerofferingflavored margaritas!! My favorite is Midori. Lots of people drink strawberry or peach...We were sat at a booth which had a bunch of pillows which seems a bit odd for dinner. The only food recommendation I can give would be: chips should have been free(on the house), rice and beans were a side dish, and quite small. Maybe offer them as a combination with Carne asada tacos? I really enjoyed my carnitas tacos. Best in the city!!!!My son ordered the Birria & Bone marrow, quite an interesting dish! Could have been better if the blue corn tortillas were soft. We will definitely come back again

Cool little place in Old Town, food was pretty good, not a ton of options but overall it was fine. Margaritas were good, wait staff was nice, and I’d recommend getting a reservation because the place isn’t very big.

We arrived early in the night when it wasn’t busy. It took 30 minutes and two waiters to get us our drinks. Apps arrived before the drinks. The food was okay, nothing memorable. Service was poor and largely absent while we were there. We planned to have dinner there but ended up leaving to go to a different restaurant in the area because of the service.
