Tamarind upstairs now reminds me of a cafe. The fine dining experience underground is gone. We sat next to a faimily in shorts and t shirts with yelling kids. Never going back.
One of the best biryanis I’ve ever had, we ordered the Hyderabadi lamb biryani and the waiters were incredibly friendly!
This was our first visit since the renovation. We always loved our time at the Tamarind, but the refit has taken it to a whole new level..(literally) We ate on the top floor which was light and airy, but were given a tour at the end of the evening around the lower floor. It too looked a great place to eat, more bustling and energetic with a view of the fabulous food being created.
It felt incredibly special and I loved our evening there from the moment we walked in. The service was superb, attentive and friendly and there was a lovely ambience. As for the food, wow, it doesn’t come much better than this...we tried the vegetarian tasting menu with a couple of extra prawn dishes.
I can’t recommend the new Tamarind highly enough.
We just came back from a family dinner at Tamarind.
It was an outstandingly good experience.
Cliford, our amazing waiter was super kind and highly professional.
He certainly enhanced the already superb experience there.
Each dish had a fantastic combination of sophistication, creativity and elegantly mixed flavours.
Nothing but good words about this restaurant will most certainly go again on my next visit to London.
Thank you for an unusually good dinner.
Had a brilliant lunch with my friend! The staff were very friendly and catered to all needs. The food was out of this world! The presentation of the dishes was great and tasted so good! My favourite dishes was the scottish scallops, baked crap, and chettinand chicken biryani! Would highly reccomend and look forward to returning!
Food is amazing, the tasting menu is very tasty.
Service is fantastic.
Went there for our anniversary. Had a lovely time. Service was brilliant and we were given complimentary cocktails for our celebration. That was a really lovely touch.
I expected a little more from the food. All food was beautifully presented although some dishes were lacking in flavour. We also had a potato dish that was incredibly salty. So salty it was inedible.
Certainly not the best Indian food I've eaten.
Save yourself some money on an overpriced meal and just go for the lunch or pre-theatre set meals! Service and ambience is delightful.... Food's just not as good.
An excellent meal. Our waiter, Felix, was very attentive and gave us all the relevant details regarding the menu, portion sizes and recommendations. Food was superb, with excellent vegetarian options. Only (tiny) criticism was that it was fairly noisy.
The waiter was pushy and asking us to order more. The food was bland so such a shame on the name of Indian food.
The "new" Tamarind has a less formal vibe than the former, very elegant restaurant but - despite a bit more ambient noise - it remains a lovely venue, including a new upstairs dining room. Most important, the food is superb and the service is as attentive and warm as ever. The small plates allow diners to sample a wider array of dishes without opting for the tasting menu, and some dishes are absolutely stunning (notably the baked crab with spices and coconut and the vegetarian kebab). The wine list has been pared back in favor of an expanded cocktail list but happily one can still get decent bottles and glasses at relatively reasonable prices. May Tamarind thrive in its new incarnation!
Food was middling and not up to the standard one would expect at a fine dining establishment. Unfortunately an unusually broad range of dishes seemingly unnecessarily contained gluten, and the restaurant was unwilling to make substitution to the tasting menu to accommodate my coeliac friend. Surprising lack of flexibility for a restaurant aiming for a fine dining standard. Suggest you try Benares or Cinnamon Club instead.
Thank You for a lovely experience, The staff member that served us was brilliant & very professional but personable, They surprised my Fiancé with a birthday cake & a celebration which was very sweet ☺️
Just another fab fab fab fab evening. Chateau rauzan segal. 2007. Every time ......
Good food, but there are better options at the same price point in London. We wanted to have the tasting menu with wine pairing, but the restaurant would not accommodate a vegetarian and non-vegetarian tasting menu at the same table. We ended up spending less by ordering a la carte, so it seems like a missed opportunity for the restaurant, and a disappointing experience for us. Overall, food was good, but not the memorable food or experience that I have had at other Indian restaurants at this price point.
Fabulous food and experience. Each dish better than the last.
Too much upselling. Too much noise. Food was good though.
I wouldn’t recommend Tamarind as its incredibly overpriced and although the food was good it wasn’t special enough to justify the price tag.
Also, I felt the prawns and chops we ordered as a started had the same masala base and I could taste the rawness of the masala...not impressed unfortunately!
The new small plate oriented sharing menu is superb.
Hugely disappointed in our experience at Tamarind. We have been making the rounds on all the top/Michelin Indian restaurants in London, and wanted to try Tamarind as we’d heard it went thru major renovations, but you could have fooled me - the restaurant leaves almost everything to be desired.
The ambience/decor feels like a bad hotel restaurant. If you’ve ever been to the London Nobu that’s in a hotel, you might think you were in the same place. It’s cold, and with a very mid range hotel banquet room kind of vibe. We sat upstairs (maybe downstairs was renovated?)
Then the service. Good god. It took forever to get food. We arrived at 8. First it took 30mins for someone to take our drink order, and then another 20 for drinks to arrive. During this time no one visited or brought us dinner menus to review. Meanwhile 2 guys who arrived after us ordered and were served and finished, all before we got our salad course. Another 20mins passed before they came back for our food order. We got another round of drinks and placed our order. Drinks showed up about 15mins later with a third “on the house” as they had made a mistake at the bar. Our salad, tasty, came quickly.
But by now we were 90mins into our experience and it would take another 20mins for dinner to come. We needed to be out by 10pm to pickup work calls with the US, so that left us with about 10mins to eat before rushing to a taxi. Food was OK but we both agreed Jamavar beat it by miles. Didn’t have time for dessert - wanted to try to baked coconut (the real reason we chose Tamarind that night vs another) but will not likely return to be able to try it. This was quite possibly the most expensive worst dining experience I’ve had in the world - most definitely in London. There are MUCH better fine dining Indian restaurants in the city, would encourage you to visit those.
Food quality dropped from last visits
Some drinks unavailable
The restaurant and dinner itself were wonderful as always!
The food was delicious. Would of liked the menu to of been clearer on portions etc. For example the trio of chicken is 3 cubes of chicken. Although they are served with generous sides. Despite the food was excellent however the concept of menu was over thought.
The food was tasty. The staff were pleasant but seemed a bit detached. We were a table of 5 people as the restaurant had accommodated our late request to delay by half an hour and add an extra person. That was very good of them. However when we were there they seemed to be in a different world. When we ordered ( given that we were five persons) they did not tell us that some of the dishes would only serve three. We felt that whilst they were pleasant we were not as high on the priority list as other customers. Maybe that was because we had arrived later although I had phoned ahead and asked for the delay and the extra person and was accepted. In the end we had nice food a good chat and the venue was very pleasant.
Exceptional in every way!!!
We were overwhelmed by the attentive service and felt very special indeed. From the delicious signature cocktails to the journey across the mouthwatering tasting menu, the food was out of this world. The Scallops are to die for and the lamb chops melt in your mouth! The goat ribs curry with butter garlic naan was incredibly delicious. There was this person who recommended us wine with our food and with every dish we tried different wines which went perfectly well with what we ate, I loved it... so perfect. I particularly enjoyed the atmosphere and we sat downstairs where we saw the open kitchen, the lightings very so perfect in the restaurant. I must say it was a treat to our senses. Highly highly recommended. Well done.
This was our first time to dine at Tamarind. Everything about our experience was 5 star. It was recommended to us by two different friends and we will recommend it to anyone we know going to London in the future.
We had a great time. the food was excellent. nice atmosphere.
Went to have the lunch menu but was tempted by the vegetarian taster menu so we both ordered that .
Faboulous plates of food .
Only thing that needed a bit more work was the pudding, could be a bit lighter and refreshing .
Overall though it was all excellent .
Came first time- celebrated Son’s birthday. A bit noisy. But that is fine fantastic service and appetizers. Cordial staff.
Food was awesome - but lacked some spice -
Overall space a bit cramped
One of the best Indian restaurants anywhere. Beautiful and great food.
Another amazing dining experience.
Overall a very nice experience. Half of the food was very, very good. The other half was exceptional. Nice service and atmosphere as well.
Excellent fresh Indian food - amazing!
The atmosphere was really nice, staff were brilliant and very helpful and professional
Can't wait to go back! TRy all the dishes - nothing will disappoint
Excellent service and food
Shame about the recent chicken knorr cube issue which has sullied our view as my mother is vegetarian.
Superb food, service and ambience Rose cocktails particularly unusual and delicious.
That is was our first visit and the food was amazing! Chicken was tender and melted in the mouth. Very tasty and not heavy. We will be definitely visiting again! It was a perfect birthday dinner.
Really good meal. We were in a rush for the theatre and would have enjoyed longer. Food and service top notch. The new decor was very classy
Great wine great food
Afternoon birthday meal for my partner, staff were very nice at the end of our meal presented him with a slice of cake.
Vegetarian tasting menu really excellent.
Excellent food, as good as before. Interior fantastically modern, service tops, ambiance as always
