The Green Hen
Lunch & Dinner is served everyday, with Early Bird & Table D'Hote options. We offer an extensive wine menu to complement any dish, our staff would be delighted to recommend a bottle. Our award-winning cocktails are also a must try! Come and join us and enjoy the unique ambiance and great customer service that everyone is talking about at The Green Hen.
A beauiltiful cosy retaraunt, the staff are so friendly and very accomadating.
Our waiter I believe his name was Liam as far as I could see from the reciept, visited our table to check everything was ok more than once and even offered to pop my flowers into water behind the bar so they werent in the way. The Duck leg was perfection, literally fell off the bone.
Will definitely be back!
The table next to us seem to think they were in a pub and not a restaurant so were quite noisy. Could've done with a bit more description of the special, on asking what it came with was just told 'Some vegetables.' Still, a lovely place. Have eaten there many times and will be back. Recommended!
Green Hen has gone downhill. Appeared grubby. We were seated on a high table beside the coats so people and staff were physically touching my back to get coats during the meal. The service was ok, very knowledge waiter but slow at times. Bartender went missing once to the point where people were about to walk out and it wasn’t chaotically busy. Food was not good, tough pork chop, sticky mash, it met pub grub standards at best. Wine was initially served in cheap wine glasses you’d see if a bad hotel. Disappointed, won’t be going back.
Food was superb. Pricey but worth it! Music was quite loud but as you only have the table for 2 hours, it’s not like we could hang about anyway. But it wouldn’t be ideal as a date spot if you’re trying to have a chat! The table next to us were very loud but thankfully when their time was up, they were asked very politely to vacate so the staff aren’t terrified youngsters like I’ve seen in some restaurants! Will definitely be back!
We had a wonderful dinner at The Green Hen. Service was a bit slow in the kitchen due to big wedding party but our table waiter excelled in making up for it. We loved the bread basket and the main dishes, and the desserts were also very good. Great ambiance. Well done The Green Hen.
Had a great evening, early bird menu was lovely and great value and the service was excellent.
Disappointing, very ordinary meal, tough steak! Nothing you wouldn’t do at home
Our recent visit was our third and all of them have been consistently good. It was definitely worth our 120 miles journey for our experience
We will be back next time we are in Dublin
Our Sunday lunch was lovely. We requested & were given a corner table which was good. Excellent service & friendly staff. Thank you.
Food very good. Wine a bit overpriced
Great location. Good food. Attentive staff.
The food was just wonderful. Main courses in particular. Will be back.
Do find it a little dark but that is probably a personal preference.
Absolutely charming little bistro. Dined with a group of six and everyone commented on how delicious their meal was. A nice mix of flavors, and drew a bit on the French/Vietnamese influence as well. How I wish this could be my neighborhood bistro - I would go here frequently! (However, I'm over on the other side of the ocean, so the best I can hope for is the next time I am back in Dublin.).
I have been here before and absolutely loved it but on this occasion I was disappointed. It was a birthday celebration and we also had a French friend with us who has very little English and despite our assistance found it difficult to ascertain what she could eat. Somewhat ironic given the French fare of which I had been boasting, based on my previous visit!! It was also extremely noisy and we were shouting at each other. I also found the waiter, albeit a nice guy, was a bit impatient with our difficulties. However, I will say I was pleased when he took my French companion to speak with the Chef which was a very nice touch. It wasn't a bad evening, just disappointing as I had my friends all built up for a fabulous experience.
Food choices on early bird were very limited. Found it difficult to find something and I am not an overly fussy eater
We went for early bird but very bad choices so had to order from dinner menu which was expensive.
Improve early bird
We've been to the Green Hen a few times and have always enjoyed the food and general ambience. However, on our most recent visit, the service was quite slow, e.g. took almost 15 minutes for two beers to be brought to the table. Restaurant wasn't particularly busy, so don't know if it was just too few waiting staff available.
4 of us arrived Friday night for 7.15 pm booking. Our table was towards the back of restaurant ground floor. It was immediately apparent that the noise level was high & we would not be able to talk at normal pitch. We requested a different table, upstairs, as on a previous occasion had been there. Upstairs not in use on Friday due to carpet cleaning that day. Only a small table available front of house. We stayed put.
The noise was due to 2 large groups nearby. This restaurant’s website stipulates children under 12 years not catered for after 5pm. A boy of about 3 years was in one of the groups. A gorgeous child who indicated how bored & tired he was was by screaming in a high pitched shrill from time to time. The restaurant was so noisy our waiter made a mistake & 2 pork chop dinners arrived instead of 2 Hake dinners. Along with our 2 duck dinners, the meals were taken back so we could all eat at the same time. Our starters were good - crab & a terrine. The noise level & our having to talk in raised voices gave me a headache but at least I had paracetamol to hand. This is quite an expensive restaurant & we were really fed up with the racket. I suggested to a Manager the larger groups should have been accommodated upstairs - carpet cleaning on a Friday in July ? We requested & got a free coffee & 2 sides were not charged over the meal order mistake. We noticed a couple near us complain about the noise directly to the group with the child - they were not well received. I will not be in The Green Hen again!
Had a lovely early dinner before Burt Bacharach on Saturday night. We booked for 8 but actually ended up with 10 people so were relocated to top floor. Bit of a hike but lovely table etc. Took a while to get our drinks orders taken but from then on it was great. Lovely atmosphere, friendly service and great food. This place is a gem and is not our go to place in the city. Its not cheap but worth splashing out. Highly recommend a visit.
Beautiful meal to celebrate my sister's birthday.food was delicious staff are fantastic.we love everything about the green hen.will go again soon to treat my hubby and daughters for a summer treat.grest spot thanks for a lovely memory. Regards Deirdre O'Brien
We did not stay to eat, because we were received in a hostile fashion. They should also change the term "TOP TABLE" to "HIGH TABLE". I took Top Table to mean BEST area. I will NEVER book that restaurant again. They are very ignorant when it comes to running a good service restaurant. I can elaborate much more, but you will be bored with my complaints.
We have eaten here a number of times and have never been disappointed. The food is always good and the service is great. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The early bird if great value, the cocktails are delicious. One of my favorite places to eat in the city.
The restaurant has a nice and cozy vibe. The service was ok, a bit inconsistent as our first waiter was a bit abrupt (probably because he was finishing soon), and the second was much more attentive and pleasant. All the food tasted good, but the pricing was a bit high for what you get.
The main problem for me was I had rang ahead and asked for separate bill for wine and prosecco which I had ordered, bill came at end for everything together. I was very upset as everybody then divided the bill, I did not want this and was very embarrassed as it was a lot for each individual to pay. When I rang the girl assured me the bills would be separate. It ruined the evening for me.
Gorgeous food & great service
The food was really nice. We were on the early bird menu however and perhaps this is the reason it all felt very rushed. We had starters, mains, sides, wine and dessert which we finished in less than an hour. The bill came to €90 which, on a Tuesday evening I feel like shouldn't be rushed at all. Besides this the chocolate pave dessert was amazing and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
Very good value early bird menu and lively atmosphere.
The restaurant is a buzzy venue. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. With a bottle of wine included it was on the expensive side. Good for a treat.
Great food and great restaurant, just a little noisy and we were struggling to hear each other. Apart from that it was fantastic
8 lads having some grub before a Weller gig. Staff very accommodating as we had to reschedule our reservation time. Food arrived as requested and the very capable Leo did a great job collecting orders requests drinks etc. The ooen table site made the whole thing a simple booking
Food was great and early bird is super value. A really excellent french bistro. Service was attentive and friendly but I think new waiters were being trained in and there were a few mistakes and a lot of waiting for drinks to arrive etc. Music was very loud and didn't fit the atmosphere - an eclectic mix of everything when some low French jazz might have made the experience a bit more atmospheric. A little disappointed but again, superb food and friendly service.
Great food and service, bustling atmosphere. Lovely spot!
On arrival at 1.00 we requested a table at the wall and were just told ‘no’. We enquired again a second time and it was grudgingly given with the proviso that we would be out by 2.30 which we had planned to do anyway. 2 of us had cod which arrived luke warm after a long wait.
Overall we did not feel welcome and the food was unfortunately poor.
Very nice restaurant in heart of Dublin, good atmosphere. Steaks at lunch are good quality.
(Only suggestion is that the pictures on the wall are straightened! just me..)
food was not great
no AC on a 90 degree night
only bottle of French wine Ive had that I didn't like
The GH was an attractive venue in a good location. I was excited by the fact there was a three course vegan menu which I had checked out beforehand. My partner enjoyed the Hake and his choice of dessert. However I was disappointed by a few things. One of the vegan mains wasn’t available. The chocolate cake dessert option I had planned to indulge in wasn’t available. Nor was there soya milk for my coffee. We had to ask for a jug of water three times. To be fair our waiter was lovely as were the other staff we dealt with. Nonetheless, we felt were being moved along very quickly. Overall, it was a nice experience but I’m not sure I would feel the need to go back.
We ordered a tea and were charged for it but it never came, but otherwise a super restaurant, very good food and delightful ambience
Great atmosphere even for mid week dinner we went for. Food was delicious
Service was friendly
Value was great. We got the two course early bird .
Located In the middle of town
Dined here during a family trip to Ireland and we had a great experience! Great food & service. Would recommend if you’re looking for something a bit more upscale (and not pub food) while in Cork.
It was a celebration and the staff looked after us really well. Foid was delicious for everyone at our table of 8. Will definitely go back! Thanks.
