The Horned Dorset Inn
Excellent food and service. True fine dining.
A Christmas dinner like no other, a truly memorable experience.
Great food service and atmosphere!
We are so happy to have such a high quality eating experience in our area. We love Madelena and all the servers.
Food was only beat by the incredible service and ambiance. We will definable rely on this venue for our special occasions!!
A very warm and comfortable setting for a special occasion when dining. Food was excellent, wide selection and prepared very well. Service was above and beyond expectations, everyone was pleased with the extra attention provided by the staff during the meal. The Xmas holiday season decorations were very well done and added to the overall atmosphere of the facility. Would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a special dining experience.
The Horned Dorset never disappoints. We will be back. Musicians added to the seasonal ambiance. Food was amazing and homemade ice cream creative with unique flavors. We celebrated my husband’s Birthday which was recognized with a special sorbet surrounded by chocolate writing on the plate. Simply love this restaurant, always welcoming owners and staff. My family had a memorable Thanksgiving at The Horned Dorset. We are eager to return to celebrate our next special occasion.
Outstanding. Great food, perfect atmosphere, and great and friendly staff and service.
We had the special Thanksgiving dinner...it was fantastic. The wait staff was perfect, attentivebut not obtrusive.
We'll definitely be back!
The Horned Dorset is an upstate NEW York gem and should be a stop on any afficionado of fine food's itinerary. An elegant, primarily French menu is supplemented daily with a series of special dishes featuring local ingredients and/or unique presentation. When we were there Saturday there was a butternut squash and apple soup, a whole Maine lobster out of the shell and served Portuguese style with mussels and clams in a tomato broth and a main course of veal medallions garnished with fois gras. The special dessert was a blackberry souffle served with a couple of sauces.
The service is impecable, attentive without being overbearing. The wine list is extensive.
We will be back!
As always, an excellent experience.
Was an absolutely wonderful evening. The food was superb. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
Always a delight to eat here, and enjoy a quiet and festive evening!
A wonderful magical place full of 30 years of memories for our family...We continue to enjoy it as if it was our first every time. Theres no restaurant within 100s of miles to compare it to.
Fantastic as always. Quality of food and service unequaled anywhere.
The Horned Dorset is a truly great restaurant - actually not just a great restaurant, but a wonderful experience. Superb food, graciously served, a unique, restful ambience and - in wintertime a warm, welcoming, roaring fire place. This is a complete delight.
A wonderful place. Beautiful old building, outstanding service, menu, food, presentation and feel. Highly recommended.
What a gem. There are few words that can describe such a fantastic atmosphere, phenomenal food and impeccable service. The owners each came out and introduced themselves and took the time to give us a tour of their beautiful building and second floor art exhibit. A+++
Fabulous meal and service.
The Horned Dorset Was one of the best dining experience that my family and I have had. Its about an hour and 30 minutes from Syracuse new York in an area called Leonardsville . From the moment you walk through the front door you realized your in for a unique experience. Driving through the winding country roads surrounded by farmland you begin to get a sense of the source for there ingredients and as it turns out they actually grow the majority of the produce used in their kitchen. The service is impeccable ! the waiter is very well versed and knowledgeable he not only explains the menu he actually paints a delicious picture of what your dining experience is going to be like. Maddalena the chefs wife is the conductor making sure everyone is hitting the right notes in the dining room....love her French accent. The food is not only good it is exceptional. From the French onion soup , the butternut and apple soup, the fromages, dou de bouf , Poulet roti, the crispy beaded veal, the whole boneless lobster to the soufflé with cherry suuce . Thank you chef Aaron Wratten, see you next year.
Outstanding dining experience. Attentive service and excellently prepared food. We particularly enjoyed the cheese soufflé that began the meal.
Had a lovely meal here for our 41st anniversary. Love going to the Horned Dorset for special occasions. Everything was perfect, as expected. We are never disappointed. Thank you Horned Dorset for a special gourmet dinner!!!
Horned Dorest Inn is a very elegant, charming, dining experience with particular attention given to every detail from greeters to wait staff to food & atmosphere. Crisp white tablecloth, lit candles & seasonal decorations abound every table. Our meals choices consisted of butternut squash soup as a appetizer with individual selections of duck & lamb as entrees. Both dishes were cooked to perfection with perfect portion sizes & beautiful color presentation. A personal happy birthday written in chocolate syrup on the outer side of the dessert plate made for an added touch. Although over an hours ride, we will continue to frequent this one of a kind Inn as we have over the past several years.
We have gone to The Dorset many times and are never disappointed. Had the scallops for appetizer, lamb for dinner and souffle for dessert and each was prepared to perfection. This is a gem.
Always exceptional, and there is nothing else like it in Central New York. Once you’ve been there you will never forget it. Also, they offer corkage for a very reasonable price. Go as soon as possible!
Always exceptional. I'd go more often if it wasn't almost an hour away from where I live.
One of the best places I have been. The staff could not have been more amazing, the setting is so special and the food was super yummy on top of that.
Would come over and over again. I live in Brooklyn and we drive up to Cooperstown every fall, always make the 45 minute drive to enjoy a dinner here!
We love the Horned Dorset! We came 35 years ago and came back last year and found it unchanged. We plan on coming every year. The Gravlax was perfect as was the rack of lamb. We had the soufflé for dessert. A perfect meal!
Wonderful evening. Server very knowledgeable and eager to explain our menu. Chefs wife was so lovely . Enjoyed our e e I guess and would definitely come again .
Comfortable, cozy setting in antique INN.
Welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff.
Impeccable, well-choreographed service.
Delicious and inventive food options
One suggestion -- would have preferred more vegetarian (non fish) options for one of my table-mates or perhaps an offer from the staff to accommodate food allergies or special requests.
We will return, I am certain.
The entire experience was fabulous! The best food, ambience and service!
Superb, and the musicians playing jazz were an added pleasure.
Elegant and an exceptional dining experience! Second to none! A dining must!
Great experience...awesome food...impeccable service....a perfect evening!
Nice surprise for spoiled Brooklyn foodies. Food was top tier even by NYC standards. We were up for parents weekend at Colgate. Very limited options for a special dinner in the area and well worth the scenic 25 minute backroad drive from Hamilton. (After dark or if weather bad easy to detour via Rts 8, 20 and 12b). Service was well-schooled. Food was timely. Old inn is charming. Prices were consistent with the quality - fair, not cheap but not exorbitant. Will definitely return.
Lovely and special restaurant. Pretty interior. Sophisticated menus for rural setting. Service very friendly and I had wonderful venison dish.
Overall fantastic anniversary dinner. The owner is always very hospitable and always makes for a wonderful evening. Def worth the drive!
