The Ivy Cafe Blackheath

I came here with my son for an early supper and we had a perfect evening. The food was the usual high standard and the service was excellent - an attentive team who were engaging and we felt no pressure to hurry up our evening ! It was also a very relaxed space, will definitely be returning to Blackheath.

Unfortunately the most dissapointing visit to this restaurant since it's been open. It was my mother's 71st Birthday, my brother and myself took her for a late Sunday lunch to The Ivy in Blackheath. We had a dirty napkin from the previous table lying next to the table for almost all our visit... Finally when we were paying the bill one of the waiters spotted it and picked it up. The food was really bad... I had a Crispy Duck and Watermelon Salad as a main - duck was so crispy that I thought I'll end up eating all my fillings... Watermelon was really really old... Probably was sliced a week ago... We had a side of tomatoes - been sliced at the same time as a watermelon... Old and tasteless... The rest of the food was just ok, nothing special. No one checked on our food, sharing starters arrived without table being set up for them. Mains arrived and were dropped on the table without clearing the plates and cutlery from the starters... I mentioned on my booking that it is a special occasion - birthday - 2 tables around us got a Birthday cupcakes with a candle... Noone even asked our table if we would like one... Really really horrible experience... If you put a service charge on the bill - I would expect you to provide it, same with the food quality. Will not recommend to anyone, really dissapointing.

We went for Sunday brunch to celebrate some good news. Staff were attentive and friendly, food was delicious and the restaurant is beautiful! My only slight criticism is that there could be some more brunch style food on the menu!

Great meal and service at Ivy, lovely ambience overall but a bit too noisy - packed out, do love decor. My 2nd time there. Our waiter was so nice, v attentive and his recommendations were excellent. Only issue is the bar area its a waste of space - it’s a pass through for staff serving or customers going to loo, therefore tables feel very tight on space, you could not relax at bar- get rid of stools. Well worth going - highly recommend.

A lovely night with fantastic food and a fantastic waiter called Ivor. He was very attentive and patient catering to our ever changing minds! I always have a good experience when I come here.

Based on the level of service I will definitely recommend the cafe. The value for money is also very good.

The food was super meal at the Ivy. Ivar was our waiter and he was incredibly helpful and courteous. He was attentive to the dietary requirements of one of our group and consulted the kitchen regularly.
The atmosphere was beautiful with the regular decor even more beautiful with the Christmas decorations!
We will definitely be back.

It is a lovely restaurant for a special treat or celebration, big group or just a couple, you will not be disappointed.

Poor service for an Ivy not at all attentive and hard to get a waiters attention. Anecdotally others have said the same to me since I have been there.

The lady that served us didn’t know the drinks menu. Ordering Madagascar cola caused quite an issue as she didn’t know what it was and then thought it came in flavours. Then she dropped one of our drinks over the table. Initially shoved on a table for 2 that was half way across the washroom corridor. Then they allowed a lady with a pram to shove the pram right up behind my chair and squashed me in. She was asked to move but didn’t want to so they rammed the pushchair even further across which went over my girlfriends hand bag and the staff didn’t seem to care. Our orders were not given to the right person and there was only two of us! The food was actually excellent and value for money of food alone is good. Service and attention to detail is quite poor and rather distracted from a nice experience. It’s also too cold with the door opening and closing frequently with customers, prams anc children

Lovely in between Christmas and New Year breakfast treat for my husband and I and our two daughters. Fabulous food as ever. Christmas decorations beautiful and staff very attentive.

This is our third visit and we chose Boxing Day as it is my birthday, and we just wanted a nice late lunch. Everything is lovely, food delicious, drinks served beautifully - but we (a couple) were seated next to a rather noisy group, which made our own conversation a little challenging! We spent most of our time there saying “pardon” “sorry” - it really wasn’t the romantic lunch we had hoped for on that special day! My only other gripe is the reception/cloak room area gets very clogged up quickly if there is more than one table waiting to come in/get their coats! There really is nowhere to wait, and there was only one person taking coats/giving them back & also accompanying people to their tables! We still had an alright time, but we might think about expanding our experiences and trying different places.

Had an enjoyable Christmas eve at the Ivy Cafe Blackheath. The only downside was the bar and bar area which were too small to accommodate us for pre-dinner drinks.

Christmas Eve treat. Lovely location and decor. Little disappointed with portion size on the special ;’goose cottage pie’ but overall our dining choices were all tasty and beautifully presented

Took my Mum for brunch on her birthday. Eggs Benedict tasty but muffin hard and almost impossible to cut. Staff keen to rectify but was too late to start again. Never mind. Will try again another time.

Really lovely food, as always, and amazing service!

The initial greeting has always been a little frosty here unfortunately but we come back for the food as it’s usually good.

The waiting staff seem to be quite sullen and “over it” so overall the service is let down as I felt like a nuisance by being there. My chips were dry and cold but I felt I couldn’t really ask for a new batch.

I hope this isn’t a sign of diminishing quality as it does have a lovely vibrant atmosphere in the restaurant.

Really enjoyed lunching in this beautiful restaurant with very attentive staff. Wish I was told that water was provided rather than me paying for bottled water tho!!!

Unfortunately one of the waiters dropped a hot pot of tea on my husbands leg and shoes (which are now stained by the tea). He wasn’t very apologetic and then went on to say he was also wet and wanted to go home. It was an accident but felt like it could have been dealt with better. All that was offered was a complimentary coffee - for myself, I already had a coffee and I wasn’t the one who got tea spoilt all over them. Overall not great service and wouldn’t go back to this restaurant.

I ordered poached eggs on muffins - which were burnt and my eggs were almost cold when they arrived.

Second time at The Ivy Cafe and even better than the first. We had great starters and mains. So full didn't want a dessert. My gosh and chips was excellent and such a large portion. Definitely going back. Service very good, and ambiance great.
