The Ivy Castle View
With an all-encompassing menu serving modern British and international Ivy-inspired classics from dawn until dusk, the restaurant is open seven days a week and is also featuring a private dining room, outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining with beautiful views across Guildford Castle.
Given the circumstances at the moment with the Covid-19 pandemic, we chose The Ivy for, amongst other things like the ambience and value for money, but because of its commitment to staff and clients re: their support to ensure high levels of cleanliness and processes to protect against the virus.
We were, unfortunately, one of only 4 other tables and staffing was reduced, but we were very well looked after.
My only disappointment was that with the afternoon tea we were enjoying, the sandwiches were quite "solid", we assume from being pre-prepared and refrigerated.
But all in all, we really enjoyed our experience and will be back when the doors eventually reopen.
Thank you so much for a delicious and enjoyable lunch - hands down my favourite restaurant!
Looking forward to seeing you all again on return to normality.
Until then keep well and positive.
Gorgeous! Lovely staff, beautiful decor, stunning view and fabulous food.
The staff were excellent. The food and ambience was great as well. The price was reasonable.
Lovely atmosphere, fabulous food and service outstanding.
Good food, pricey but to be expected. Ambience great, staff courteous.
Delicious food, great view and attentive service. It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.
We had a lovely evening , with an excellent waitress Amber . She was attentive , informative and provided can excellent service. The Ivy is very lucky to have her !
Lovely food and great service. Here for our anniversary and my daughters birthday celebrations. We were impressed with the service at our table and the fast efficient delivery of food and drinks.
As expected fab food and service. Had a great 18th celebration
It was lovely however i feel the waiting staff are trying too hard. The food was brilliant and service quick and friendly
Fabulous experience! Staff were so professional, helpful and kind. Food was lovely and served in great time. Drinks were amazing - I would highly reccomend this restuarant and would go back in a flash - Thank you
A very enjoyable lunch, lovely food, very good gin and tonic I just wish they had a few more vegan options.
Very standard menu with nothing truly exceptional or different.
A few small details were overlooked, like bringing sugar with the tea, forgetting butter when requested.
Perfectly good, but nothing exceptional for the brand and cost.
Saturday morning brunch. Perfect spot to catch up with a friend over coffee and eggs! Food beautifully presented and staff friendly and attentive. Would def recommend.
overall really good, staff were really nice but we didn’t get any sauce with our steak until we’d finished the steak and my sisters red wine didn’t arrive until she had nearly finished her meal. all in all we had a lovely
time but wanted to feedback the above as it is an expensive restaurant and so you do expect these sort of things not to happens , many thanks, charlotte
Very good service and atmosphere. Food was outstanding. Me and my husband really enjoyed going to this restaurant and would revisit.
Fabulous service good food but quite noisy
Great food, nice surroundings, mid priced food, drinks expensive, Patron £15 a shot is a bit over the top when a ltr bottle is only £50, I know this cause I have 3!! However, good selection of drinks available. Would come again.
I was concerned about returning to this restaurant having had a bad experience with a meal there shortly after it first opened.
It has improved 100%. Food, in particular, is much better and up to the standard you would expect at this price level.
Service was good, not excellent but good. Could have done with our white wine being delivered to the table a little earlier, rather than half way through our starters.
All in all, the Ivy experience just about reaches the cost of the final bill, but only just.
crumpet was slightly burnt and the service was too rushed! I had said in my booking it was a birthday occasion but sadly no little cake was delivered to the table for my daughter as has happened before. Love coming to The Ivy but on this occasion it fell short and most definitely felt rushed even though you were not that busy.
Excellent as always. A little quiet as many are staying indoors, but the extra space was nice for a change! Staff were great, as was food. Thanks very much!
Excellent service, good quality food in a comfortable setting.
Always an enjoyable experience.
Our waiter was very helpful friendly and professional. He enhanced our pleasurable experience of the restaurant. Food lovely and environment very good. Fab loos and overall interior design gorgeous
Only slight problem is that it is all a bit noisy and one had to converse loudly
Very enjoyable but quite expensive
I think I enjoyed my last visit to The Ivy in Guildford except it was almost totally spoiled by the noise level. It was unbearable - I had great difficulty hearing what my guest was saying which made conversation almost impossible. If you cannot improve on this I am afraid I will not be returning.
We were given a lovely table by the window overlooking the castle after requesting a move from a fairly overcrowded table next to others. The staff were exceptionally helpful and professional . Our food was delicious and was served without any delays .
Another fantastic meal with the quality and atmosphere you would expect - thank you
Myself and my friend visited on Tuesday night and had a fantastic meal, made all the better with the great level of service by Magdalena..she's a real credit to your team and made for a memorable evening. All the dishes were amazing, especially the olive starters and their amazing chocolate bombe desert.
My guests and myself enjoyed a most sumptuous lunch with a lovely view.
I had the roast beef which was cooked to perfection.
Lunch with my sister
My first visit and I must say I was not disappointed the decor as amazing and ambiance was just superb.
I went for my birthday with my partner and daughter, the staff in there were exceptional, they were helpful and very knowledgeable.
We were looked after extremely well.
Booked in fort lunch with my wife.
The service was, as expected, outstanding. The seared salmon my wife chose was perfectly cooked and presented . My shepherd's pie delicious and the vegetables superb. The ice cream sundae and creme brulee rounded lunch off wonderfully.
The restaurant was full and a little noisy but it was lunchtime, in a popular and very pleasing setting, so to be expected.
Looking for excuses to visit again soon.
Fantastic venue, good food, ruined by the 12.5% discretionary service charge added to the bill. Sadly it leaves a bad taste when the bill paid is not the sum of what was ordered.
I live a five minute walk from the Ivy and have eaten many times with friends and family. Sadly it is a frequently mildly disappointing experience.
The room is lovely and the view great. The food is usually pretty good but the service slow and inattentive and it is often hard to catch the eye of whoever is looking after the table.
I would still recommend The Ivy but times it is hard to do so.
Lovely atmosphere there.
We turned up early for a drink but there was no space so we had to go to the Cosy Club instead.
Once seated, the table was wobbly which I sorted out.
Our first round of drinks came out fine, however the second round took ages and the one of the drinks was wrong.
Food ordered and turned up in good time but I must admit I wasn’t overly impressed with the fillet steak for £30. Wasn’t quite as tender as I’d expect and it pretty much comes with nothing other than a boat of suave next to it. My wife had the lamb which was nice but not out of this world. Our 2 friends thought theirs was nice.
We did have a lovely time - more down to the company and atmosphere than the food.
All in all a quite expensive night with ok food and ok service. Drinks are expensive and the service charge was over £30 too.
Not sure I’ll be going there again.
The location is great, I adore the decor of the restaurant and the service was great. The only downfall is the choice from the menu and the standard of food, for what you pay I personally think the menu could do with more choices and a bit more flavoursome dishes. Most of the dishes on the menu are quite underwhelming and the portions are quite small. Fabulous restaurant, but menu needs a bit more va va voom!
Excellent menu, good choice of dishes.
Only downside ......we were seated in a corner, near what seemed to be a storage area for lots of extra chairs, etc Definitely not the best table in the house.
Also, it was our anniversary. We did not broadcast it, we were not asked .....so it went unmarked!
Despite this, we enjoyed the restaurant.
Excellent standards, food beautifully presented and tasted great. Standard of service exceptional
Food was simply delicious. All orders cooked perfectly.
