   I have dined in the Metropole many times and the ambience in the restaurant/bar is excellent. I was looking forward to a similar experience this time. On arrival I was told the restaurant was pre booked by a group and even though I had proof of my booking I was directed to a large cold uninviting room at the rear of the hotel. I believe this may be the breakfast room. I would ask why Opentable/Metropole would take my booking for the restaurant when it was unavailable??

   We were given a table in the Bar rather than the restaurant which was very disappointing. We were the only people in the lounge area so the service was a bit slow & food took a long time to come

   We went for the Mother’s Day set menu. Food was lovely, although the portion for main course could have been bigger and served with extra potatoes or veg. Our table was very slow to be served but the staff were lovely and friendly. Everyone enjoyed the meal and the day out. The restaurant was lovely and decorated lovely, and we had a lovely view of the river.

   Absolutely fantastic, the staff were amazing, all smiling and couldn't do enough for you. As it was Mothers Day, all Mothers got a free rose and a small box of Lily O'Brien's chocolates, very nice touch. Food was fab, even the vegan options. Would definitely come again.

    My friend & I experienced an afternoon tea. It was delightful and relaxing. Three tiers of tasty items and pots of hot tea and a glass of Prosecco. The service impeccable. We enjoyed a 2 hour break from the hustle & bustle nestled into comfortable seating. I highly recommend the afternoon tea at the Met.

    Absolutely lovely experience …… Old world charm…… would have loved to stay on longer to enjoy the Pianist but we were attending the show in the Everyman Theatre. We will definitely go back again.

    Excellent ambience and service. I had the vegetarian pasta and it was delicious. My wife had the chicken supreme which was tasty but a very small portion. Tiny portions of potato and veg.

    We really enjoyed our food and staff was polite and attentive without being invasive. Portions were good. Not very good for vegans but the veggie options, while not inventive were tasty. The restaurant was cold but it could have just been our table as it was directly next to a window and opposite the door.

    Dining at The Merropole was an absolute joy The food was amazing beautifully cooked presentation perfect Service could not be faulted we had 3 servers each one was extremely friendly, efficient and very attentive to our needs The Restaurant itself is beautifully decorated very relaxing colour scheme lighting gave lovely ambiance seating was so comfortable we will definitely be back to take full advantage of The Metropole's beautiful Restaurant

    Pre booked table. Shown to table and after waiting 10 minutes had to ask for menu. Think they were busy/under staffed. My meal was lovely but my partner ordered fish & chips which was of poor quality and over priced at 16 euros.

    Group of 6 for our annual New Year's brunch meet up. Lovely menu, just what we needed. Very attentive and pleasant staff. Food was delicious and well priced. We will definitely be back.

    Was here today (1st January 2023) with my parents for lunch. My Dad said he had the nicest fish and chips and my Mum said she had the nicest Baileys Cheesecake that she ever had. Great experience. Wasn't aware of steps on the premise, but this didn't spoil our day.

    I was given a voucher for afternoon tea in the metropole, so myself and a friend booked in new years eve. On arrival, we got greated by a lovely girl with mince pies to start. We asked for drinks (mimosa & a Coke zero) but we were told the bar was too busy (they bar was very quiet when I checked myself). We then waited 15 mins for our afternoon tea to come out and was not approached by staff in this time. When we got our afternoon tea, the server went through the food. The afternoon tea overall was disappointing. It was made up of very cheap desserts such as rice pudding and Angels delight. We were given no jam or cream for the scones and could not find a server to ask. One of the sandwich options was a roll with turkey and ham and the roll was very stale. We only got 1 of a egg mayo roll and 1 of a brownie, when we should of been given 2. Overall the afternoon was disappointing and the worst one I have had from any hotel. I wouldn't of paid for the meal if I didn't have a voucher that was expiring the next day.

    Arrived at 5 to pre theatre sitting. Our table wasn’t ready, they put us in the snug and forgot about us. We had to get someone to take our order. We were then told we would only have time for a main course as kitchen was so busy. They never came to clear our table and we asked for it to be cleared and to order coffee and no one came. We had to go to the till to pay. I understand it’s panto season but your operations team should be prepared for this and take on what you can serve properly. Your most likely losing money by taking on too many tables. The food was good and I did appreciate that the wait staff were at least honest with what we should order from the kitchen to ensure we were delayed.

    Lovely afternoon tea experience, a little bit more expensive than others but still very enjoyable. The choice of sandwiches was good and the mini deserts were delicious. Our waitress form Lithuania was attentive and very friendly.

    Booked a 3 course festive dinner which I prepaid for. On arrival, the correct menu was not available. It required three members of staff to source the correct menu. FYI the festive menu is not available on their website despite my calling twice to enquire. Food was ok, not one I’d plan to revisit. I’d have a better time getting a carvery from the local pub. Some issues with staff as follows:- sides for main course were served before our starter plates were collected and before the main course was served. Sides were taken back on request and while the chips were left under a hot lamp, the mashed potato was cold upon serving for the second time. It took a considerable time for dessert to be served. I had requested clarification from the floor manager as to the Christmas pudding ie. Flambe or fried in butter. I was informed that it would be fried in butter. On arrival, it became clear that it was fresh from the microwave. We went to collect the bill and were erroneously charged for dessert despite having prepaid for a three course meal. This did not come up on their system and it was good that I had the reservation on my phone. We then received the correct bill. This is not a place I would revisit. The food was ok and unfortunately the staff were not up to the task. I note staffing is a concern for all businesses around the country but this should not have happened. I didn’t want to write this review but hope this helps someone in future. It was an experience and not one I’d like to repeat.

    It was freezing. No heating and it was minus 3 outside. My salmon was cold aswell. Really slow service even the waiters were frozen.
