The Salt Line menu and cuisine is New England embodied in Washington, DC.
“New England meets Chesapeake”. Drawing inspiration from the Northeast’s best oyster houses, The Salt Line focuses on seafood – both fish and shellfish. Our raw bar features the best bivalves and crustaceans the east coast has to offer. In addition to the raw bar program, Chef Bailey and his team offer both comfort classic like lobster rolls, fried clams and stuffies as well as truly elevated chef-driven options.
choice of dressed or buttered, split top bun
clams, bacon, potato, celery, oyster crackers
pickled mustard seed, worcestershire mayo, fried capers, potato crisps
Nice to be able to eat at a restaurant outside and feel safe. Friendly staff and delicious food!
Very little food for a mighty price.
Great scenic restaurant. Overlooking the water. Both a nice date night location and family friendly. Enjoyed everything we had on the menu, which was just about everything. The oysters and the stuffies were a fav at our table. Definitely will be back.
Thanks for the visit and review! So glad you enjoyed and we look forward to you joining us again soon.
Delicious tartare and ceviche.
Hi Kitten, Thanks for the visit and for taking the time to review and so glad you enjoyed the food. Hope you can join us again soon. Thank you!
Great outdoor seating next to nationals park and the river. They gave away our table making us miss our reservation time by 20 min but mistakes happen & the host immediately brought us complimentary drinks as soon as we were seated to make it right - very classy of them. The food came out quick. I would recommend and I will be going back.
Had dinner reservations at 7:15, check-in was pretty seamless with their only being a slight (5 minute) wait to ensure the table was cleaned before being seated. Host was very nice and welcoming.
Sat outside, lovely view. Our server, Jonathan was nice and upbeat. Enjoyed his positivity, and recommendations. However, he became more and more distracted as the evening progressed and we were left feeling a bit ignored at times. Felt uneasy about dishes being left on the table for long periods of time before being cleared. Not sure if that's a restaurant policy - to wait for all diners to complete their meals before dishes are cleared, but it's definitely something I'm unaccustomed to.
Ordered the following:
Drink - Passion fruit Paloma: Very tasty, loved the carbonation and flavor. Enjoyed the most. This drink is on tap, FYI...
Appetizer - Grilled Cucumber & Watermelon salad: Watermelon wasn't the freshest. More melon than cucumber or feta, lots of mint. Refreshing dish, but wish it were executed better.
Entree - Buckwheat Bucatini: Messy preparation, needed a good amount of salt and pepper. Encountered no mushrooms, peas or ramps, just the pasta, loads of sauce and 4 scallops (not all seared well). I was disappointed.
Overall, I was pretty excited about this menu beforehand, only to find what I consider to be pretty simple dishes executed poorly. It was a busy evening with lots of patrons, but this is when a restaurant has a true chance to shine - not drop the ball, in food and especially service. Jonathan seemed quite overwhelmed at times and we had to remind him of a couple requests. Would I return? For another drink, sure! For the food, not so sure.
Salt Line is always an outstanding experience!! Best Lobster Roll in the entire metro area. The food is phenomenal. Make sure you have the Stuffies and pimento crab dip and of course the Lobster Roll!
Fantastic as always! Service and food incredible, and they graciously got us a table an hour before our reservation.
The food was simply amazing! And so was my Waiter! We sat outside so the view and people watching was cool too. Can't wait to go back. The lobster roll was the best I ever had and they did not hold back on the serving of lobster! My husband had the burger which melted in his mouth. I had a frozen shandy. It was delicious. Perfect date night spot!
Solid choice for nice outdoor dining. Service was great and good
Was really good.
Always amazing / excellent service and awesome food.
Beautiful setting, good service. Great social distancing with the tables and care by the staff to be safe.
We had an awesome time. Great ambiance
First date night with my wife since Valentine’s. Service was good with the exception waitress forgot our cocktail order. What made the experience poor were the customers consistently finding creative ways not to wear their masks when being up from their tables. Exposing both service staff and other customers. For the price the food should be better though we still liked it (we are easy to please since we don’t get out much). Not a huge wine selection but it was good! We are big nationals fans so we generally appreciate any business backed by a Nationals player.
Our waitress (stout lady. Short Afro) was DRY. Couldn’t recommend a drink. Not very friendly.
We had a lovely afternoon at The Salt Line and thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks (especially the frozen beverages and the lobster roll, wow!!). However, I felt that the wait staff was very rude and standoffish - 2 male servers in particular.
Like taking a vacation without leaving the city!
Knowledgeable and courteous staff. Clean accommodations and strict adherence to new safety standards. Food was delicious and came to the table very quickly. Drinks are very well made and amazing flavor.
Great touch of Boston here in DC !!! LOBSTA roll was ok with the stuffers , fried clam app was ok but low on the count
We had a great meal on the patio. Tables were well spaced and the atmosphere seemed fairly causal and welcoming. Despite the pandemic, things felt pretty normal. Glad to see all staff in masks and following safety precautions. Patrons all seemed cooperative and conscientious (masks in common areas) as well. Overall good experience and great food!
My boyfriend and I got the oysters and the next 2 days we had really bad stomach problems! That was the only thing we ate so clearly the oysters were not good and must of had bacteria. We eat oysters all the time and never have had an issue. Super disappointed and will never return after that unpleasant experience that it caused for the next two days which is unfortunate because the location and setup of the restaurant is nice but not worth the stomach issues it caused.
Sitting outside under an open tent with a lovely breeze blowing overlooking the Anacostia River, slurping down some plump Harris Creek oysters and sipping a Monkey 47 martini--bliss. My entree of perfectly prepared fresh fish (my husband had his favorite lobster roll) completed the entirely satisfactory meal. As always, friendly and knowledgeable service enhanced the experience.
I love the Salt Line! The outdoor atmosphere near the water is great, and the Lobster Roll is awesome.
Was really nice dining
Nice to sit outside near the water, but prime location is what you’re paying for. Staff was friendly. Food was okay. Portions were very small.
A friend and myself went for dinner, there was a lot of great options. They have a separate menu for their oysters. My associate who is very fond of oysters loved the servers recommendation. For a main course I ordered halibut and she the rockfish, both were extremely delicious.
Had a great experience at Salt Line! Making the reservation online was super easy. The table was ready right away. The food was delicious, the service was awesome. Had an overall amazing experience here! Tables were also spaced out nicely.
We went for the raw bar seafood tower and it didn't disappoint. The lobster roll was delicious. They ask if you want butter or dressed (mayo). We got butter and it was excellent. The Nashville hot soft shell was good but it didn't really have the Nashville hot we were expecting. And, we didn't care for for the bed of whatever it was sitting on. Service was attentive and friendly. We sat outside with a lovely view. We would definitely recommend.
We went to salt line on Saturday. The food and service was outstanding. Given how hard servers have to work right now and how much harder they have to work to keep everyone safe, the service was outstanding. Our server was a delight. it was my friend's birthday and they bought her a drink and a dessert. Salt Line never disappoints, but a special thanks to how hard they all are working during these unprecedented. times.
Food was mediocre. Our waitress was awesome, though.
Service was great, food and drinks were amazing as always, and we loved the atmosphere. I will continue going back. The lobster roll is my favorite!
We had a great time. Very casual fun outside atmosphere. The pan seared Halibut was wonderful!
The burger was delicious and it paired nicely with a cold beer on tap!
Great service. Attention to covid was on point.
The outside dining was lovely and right by the water. The food was okay but not mind blowing. I expected a little more. I order d the pasta with scallops and my husband got the fish sandwich.
Outstanding service during COVID. The whole staff went above and beyond to ensure that we felt safe. Will definitely come back!
Great experience. The staff is very friendly and their COVID procedures meade me feel very comfortable being there.
Outside SD dining was carefully managed and well run. Staff was all being very careful and as always, the food was excellent. Pricey, yes, but worth it. The halibut entree is mouth-watering delicious.
Thanks for visit Cate and for taking time to provide review. So glad you enjoyed and most importantly felt safe and comfortable dining with us. Hopefully you can join us again soon.
Excellent lobster rolls and oysters! The outdoor dining section is very dog friendly.
