  • Neighbourhood gem
Come for the art. Stay for lunch. Return for dinner.

Set within The Sherborne’s beautifully restored Grade I listed Georgian house, our restaurant serves generous, seasonal British food inspired by Dorset’s fields, gardens, hedgerows and coast.

Head Chef Cory Benham brings together carefully sourced produce, vibrant vegetables, fresh seafood and beautifully cooked classics, from whole grilled lemon sole with new potatoes and grenobloise to roasted Bromham cauliflower with harissa yoghurt and pomegranate.

Just moments from Sherborne Abbey, the restaurant offers an atmospheric yet unfussy setting, with historic Georgian rooms, contemporary art, beautiful gardens and Sir James Thornhill’s extraordinary staircase mural.

Named by The Guardian as one of the 50 best museum cafés in the UK, The Sherborne combines creative and culinary experiences in one remarkable place. Entry to the house and galleries is free, with donations warmly welcomed.

We were really impressed by The Sherborne. In a way not surprised as the whole enterprise is outstanding. The set menu was excellent. We really enjoyed the venison although I would have added some greenery with it. The bread and butter pudding was delicious. The service was first rate and my wine recommendation was perfect. We will be back soon.

Lovely setting. Wonderful galleries to see before lunch. We preferred to sit in the lighter area, rather than the darker interior, but plenty space either way. Menu a bit limited, but food we had was very good. Indeed, the fish and chips were the best I’ve had in a long time. Interesting that there were no other potato options than fries or chips. Good selection of wines by the glass and bottle which were reasonably priced. Would definitely return.

Very impressed to have been able to eat a Kids’ portion and to have paid half price. Richard was a most amiable and helpful host and the young girl whose first day it was, gave good, friendly service. The wine was superb and the food plentiful. The staff in the Bistro were friendly and welcoming. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Terrible menu. Very little to choose from Only chips or fries.! No new potatoes Pathetically small portion though the cod was cooked well, it resembled a generous starter portion..at that price it was pitiful Greens just poorly chopped cale better fodder for Friesiens. Spent most of the afternoon having a dental battle. Game needs to be raised.

Small menu choice but xcellent quality food. Always meat fish and vegetarian option. Service was great... one of our party was gluten and citrus free... the menu was explained by the staff and accomodations made. Although deserts were more of a problem but once again a solution was found. Thanks to all the staff. A very enjoyable visit.
