The Story Cafe – Eatery & Bar was born from a simple belief: there is a story in everything.

We’ve been dedicated to creating a warm, welcoming space where food, music, and atmosphere come together. Blending housemade cuisine, quality coffee with latte art, live music, and a vintage-inspired setting, we offer an experience that feels both nostalgic and vibrant.

Our housemade dishes, crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, are complemented by quality coffee, a curated wine list, and a thoughtful cocktail program. Live music remains at the heart of our identity, bringing energy and soul to every visit.

We opened our doors on March 13, 2020, and, through resilience and community support, have grown into a beloved Richmond destination.

We are honored to receive the OpenTable Diners’ Choice Awards from 2022 to 2025, including Best for Live Music, Contemporary American, and a Top Hot Spot.

Poor service. We been to the restaurant many times and usually service was good. This is the first time we got rejected regarding the seating arrangement. We were going to celebrate birthday there and order lots therefore we already put a note that bigger table in the corner would be suitable. huge disappointment for us since new waitress / host were reluctant to assist and totally ignored the fact that it is the special day for us. Will never go back.

Ordered the duck medium. It came in five minutes later medium rare. For $43 the kitchen should pay attention to their convection oven. Disappointing and lazy. Carpaccio was very dry. Had to,ask for an olive oil drizzle to make it edible but it was very good once it received a little attention. Have had better most other places. They did provide for a free appetizer if we ever come back. Braised beef short rib crostini was excellent. Lava cake took longer than the duck. Very dry. Tasted like a Dr.Oetker cake mix. Not worth $16. Had to ask for more water and flag down server for a second glass of wine. Dirty dishes sat too long. Wouldn’t normally make an issue of the small service lapses but the first tip option is 22%. Not even close to that level of service. The kitchen isn’t paying attention and neither is the server so a big tip and a great review wasn’t earned. Overall an enjoyable spot for ambience, noise and menu choices.

I had selected that this was a dinner for my birthday celebration and nobody ask me anything. Ambient was too noise, and service a bit slow. I’m a often customer for brunch, and decided to celebrate my birthday and it was disappointing.

This is our 2nd time dining here it is great. The only criticism is that they could have a few more items that could be GF. We will go back again
