The Woollen Mills has been one of the most iconic buildings and businesses in Dublin for over one hundred years, and to have taken over this site is a serious privilege. Much like our award-winning sister restaurant next door, The Winding Stair, we feel like we are custodians of something very special... a piece of history (James Joyce worked here, how unbelievable is that?!) and we must do it proud! Spanning over four floors and with a glorious roof terrace overlooking the River Liffey. The Woollen Mills is quintessentially Irish, local and of its locale. We want it to be an 'Eating House', a house of food, a place to grab a coffee and bun, a plate of Irish fish and chips, a place to score a casual bite befre the nearby theatres and cinemas or sit with seven courses of Irish antipasti, burrata, crab, lamb or cauliflower steak, overlooking the Ha'penny Bridge with a fine bottle of red or a craft beer. We hope we do it well.

    I would be ashamed to serve the fish cakes we hit to anybody. Dried out, miserable size, over cooked, lacking in flavour. By contrast, the chips and apple crumble were both delicious.

    First visit in a few years - lovely atmosphere, but food (waffles with eggs florentine) was a little on the salty side. Staff very nice, and no rush on the table so it was a leisurely brunch.

    Steaks were great but the plates were a bit light using mixed leaves to fill it out ! Gravy went well with the steak but no choice of sauce was offered ! Staff were brilliant. Poor choice of desserts on menu !

    Thoroughly enjoyed the Woollen mills not our first time being there and certainly wont be our last time, every time we are there it is always better than the last experience. food was outstanding as always and staff were very nice and accommodating and will tell everyone about the woolen mills. front house staff made us both feel very welcome and very comfortable.

    Food was ok. Waiter messed up order and had to switch out one of our meals so slight delay in getting it back. Food was just ok and price was high, but that seems to be the theme in the area

    Hi There. We went to The Smock Alley Theatre at 2 pm and booked The Woolen Mills for afters. Absolutely fanfabulous place to dine. Window seats as requested. Excellent venue for pre Theatre too. Staff very friendly.Can't speak highly enough of it. Enjoy your meal. Regards Frank and Val.

    Unfortunately we had a terrible experience with our server last night, which put a dampener on the evening. I brought my friend, who was visiting Ireland from the US, and was only in Dublin for one night. The waiter seemed to take a dislike to us, but was very attentive to the group of women beside us and others in our area. Took our order, didn't approach us at any point during the meal to see if we wanted another drink or even after we had clearly finished eating to take our plates or check if we wanted coffee/dessert. We were sitting there for over 2 hours and would have happily ordered coffee/dessert. I could hear him getting the two other tables in our area drinks and dessert. I brought her there because I knew it was a lovely restaurant and I was so embarrassed that was her experience of Irish service. He ignored me when I was trying to get his attention for the bill. He made eye contact with me on the way to the table beside us, I assumed he would approach after dealing with them, but he turned his back and walked off. At that point we went up to the till to pay, I said 'is it okay if we pay here?' - our waiter was standing beside the host and said 'you're his problem now'. It was very clearly not a joke because he had been rude to us all night; that comment drove home that his ignoring us had been deliberate all night. Honestly, that comment at the end is the reason I'm writing the review, it was just beyond inappropriate and unprofessional. It was extremely bizarre to have a waiter take such instant, unwarranted dislike - I've never experienced anything like it. I have to exclude the host from the issues we had with service - he was very accommodating when I was early for our reservation, very friendly and approachable, checked in to update us on the status of our table. The host was lovely and very good at his job. I wish the servers took their lead from him.

    The decor is very nice and the ambient noise level was fine for having a chat which was the purpose of our get-together. Our main waitress was very attentive and engaged - other staff seemed less confident, but perhaps they had only recently started. The food was decent enough, but we were waiting 45 mins from when we arrived to when we received our food. What was particularly frustrating was seeing two of the four meals sitting under heat lamps for excessive time before the other meals were ready. Consequently, the first two meals were only warm when they were served. Overall the food was not good value for money. For a well-established restaurant, everything should have been much smoother and of higher standard.

    Made a reservation and was treated very poorly by the staff. We were on time, and had the table for 2.5 hours but the server seemed very impatient for us to leave. The menu was more limited than indicated online and the drink selection wasn’t great. The service was so poor that we left and found dinner elsewhere after a round of drinks and sharing an appetizer. The food that we had was good. Had the service been any less hostile we probably would have stayed.

    The staff are absolutely lovely! We had the aubergine curry and fish n chips, both delicious, and lemon polenta cake for dessert with gorgeous mascapone cheese. Would have liked to get a bottle of wine or a cocktail but the drinks are very overpriced. Would still like to come back, it really is a lovely restaurant.

    Really beautiful spot for a long lunch. Great views of the river and passers by. The staff were attentive and friendly and knowledgeable about the food. The food itself was delicious. I had fish and chips. The fish was fresh and beautifully battered and the chips were crisp and fluffy inside. Really recommend.

    Twenty of us came here for my wedding meal in December, we hired one of the private rooms upstairs. The food and staff were amazing so I decided to come back again for lunch this week and it didn't disappoint. My friend and I are both gluten free, I had the prawn salad which was delicious and my friend has the veggie breakfast abdvthey very kindly swapped the cous cous for potatoes

    Lovely environment (especially outside seating area), good food, great service, great people working there. Can get very busy/louder at peak times indoors, but early outdoor bookings perfect for tables of 2 to 4 people where conversation and connection is what you’re after.

    Very nice place to eat - friendly staff and good food in a well located restaurant. Great ambience and a gelato shop open until late opposite. Good recommendation of a local pub as well by the guy greeting guests.

    Great place to eat in Dublin. Food was great and the service was prompt even though it was busy when were there. Outdoor seating has a roof to protect you from the random Irish downpour.
