Token Ratings and Reviews
Had a really fun birthday playing all the games. Food was good but felt it was over priced for some of the items (the cost of the chips was commented on several times). Also, all our burgers were dry and over cooked.
Please sort out the pinball area as it's too crowded with the curtains pulled over. I love pinball but couldn't play most of the night because there was nowhere to wait for a machine.
Also, the booths are nice but as you can't book/fit more than 8 and we turned into 11, it made things crowded and uncomfortable for a bit. We would have ordered dessert and done the wing challenge if we had more space.
Overall a nice experience and I always recommend the place to friends. Will be back soon.
I heard great things before going to Token.. they were all true! What a fabulous place, there was a group of 8 of us. We booked a table in advance (recommend) as it was busy and had beers and food while playing retro games! Who could ask for more! Great bit of fun on a Saturday afternoon!
Second time to Token - once for my birthday and another for Dublin Comic Con. Found the staff at both times very friendly and accommodating.
Second visit had some good improvements,as the Nintendo Menus were a good idea, and I liked the new Token coins for the machines.
I thought the 50 cent coins were also a good idea, but I get why they were replaced with the Token 'tokens' - also, random observation, the little baggies seemed to be better quality printed and not fluffy on the inside like the first time.
Also, my vegetarian friend that came with me was very happy with the menu choices, and the churros were taken off our bill when they took a while (perhaps we were after a few, but I didn't even think we were waiting that long!) so, the staff are very attentive and kind.
My only criticism is perhaps - for the sake of the staff, I was called by one member about switching my booking time on the phone, and I honestly couldn't hear them from the background noise, and I know the place can be really loud.
I know it's an obvious suggestion, but is there a quiet room available for the staff to call their customers when they need to?
I look forward to visiting Token again, and I've recommended it to friends when we hit Dublin.
I was looking forward to go to Token for the first time to meet with my friends and one of them was also celebrating his birthday.
We arrived around 7pm and had tables reserved so that was good. Some of us ordered food straightaway and it didn't take too long but people that arrived a bit later had to wait a VERY long time to order their food (waitresses looked overwhelmed) and also waited again over half an hour to get served a hot dog for example!
Also, when we left our tables and decided to buy tokens to start playing we were told we had to wait half an hour to be able to buy tokens! We waited half an hour and even after that there were NO tokens available (they said it could take at least another 10 mins). We left the place extremely disappointed as the whole purpose was to go there to enjoy the food (took ages to order and receive it, reason why we were not able to start playing earlier) and also to play some games and we didn't play even once! I truly hope the service gets better as the place looks nice, but we won't be going back and will not recommend it.
Token is f***ing awesome. Loads of old arcade games, great food (including plenty of delicious vegan options) *and* they serve alcohol. It's worth booking a table, otherwise you'll struggle to get a seat - the place is popular. More seating space would legitimately make the place heaven but I guess I'm being cheeky if I ask for any more from this establishment. The waiting staff are lovely.
PS: Try the vegan brownie sundae - you will not be disappointed.
PPS: If you're single and looking for someone who's into the same geeky things as you, I'd say this place is nirvana.
Booked Token for my first wedding anniversary and couldn't have been happier with my choice. Great range of food, drinks and games. Lovely staff and atmosphere. I'm currently 7 months pregnant and delighted to see there were non alcoholic beers, sodas that are usually hard to come by in Ireland like root beer and 1 euro cuppas :) Will definitely be coming back.
Visited Token for the first time on Saturday for my birthday and was not disappointed.
Overall, this is a real find and a spark of brilliance from the guys behind it. The standout thing for me was the food - I was absolutely bowled over by how good it was. The menu is so clever, and really inspired - the vegan calamari are a stroke of brilliance and the burgers are savage. Those peanut butter cups... absolute dirtbirds :)
The drinks menu is extensive and I think they do a bottomless soft drink as well which is great for non-drinkers/dessie drivers etc. Staff are friendly and good craic, although they seemed rushed off their feet and a bit panicked handling all of the crowds - smile guys, you're doing a great job :) Would suggest (later on, when the dust has settled) that they make it their "thing" to make a fuss of special occasions - I mentioned on my OpenTable booking and in FB messages that it was my birthday and there was not even so much as a "Happy Birthday" from any of the staff.
Only thing that really bugged me was how quickly it was crowded to capacity but I don't think this will be an issue for long as they're going to need a bigger premises sooner rather than later as their popularity will keep growing. Queuing for the games is a pain, and if there are more than 2 people queuing for a game (see the Mario Kart area), it's actually quite hard to get around. They could make better use of the space downstairs rather than all the seating as it's the type of place you don't mind standing. Good selection of games - would like to see more shooting games but good selection overall even if NBA All Stars wasn't working (Rage!)
Overall, absolutely delighted a venture like Token has taken off, and was badly needed in Dublin. The emphasis and vibe is really on having a good time, not getting fall off your chair drunk or standing around posing and it just feels like good clean fun, topped with amazing food and lovely beers! Will defo be back and highly recommend!
Went twice in the space of two days with two different groups of friends (the first time being my first ever visit). Great service, incredibly tasty food, good price on drinks and the perfect atmosphere for a gamer like myself. A lot of small touches about the place show that it's not just cashing in on the gamer nostalgia, you can see the people who run the place are gamers as well. will definitely be back
Super fun! Just 2 stars for service as one server just didn't give a f*** and pretty much flung our food down onto the table, didn't bother placing it in any sort of way and certainly didn't try to see whose was whose, also looking fairly miserable before she scurried off without saying a word to any of us. Otherwise, all other service was great (especially the girl at the door with the pink hair!) and we had fun.
We really enjoyed our night at Token, I think it's a great alternative date night idea. The games were great fun and definitely the unique aspect of the venue but what we were most surprised by was the outstanding food and quirky menu. The attention to detail of the dining experience was great and we will definitely be going again!
Great Craic, We would defo go back very reasonably priced! There wasnt really much ques when we where there one or two people in front of us so it was great but but unfortunately we did get stuck behind a machine hogger repeatedly throwing money into the machine when he died theirs always one, would 100% return.
We really enjoyed the place and are looking forward to going back! The only downside is that we didn't really like sitting in the downstairs area as it didn't have the same atmosphere as upstairs, we will know to ask for next time if it's possible to sit upstairs. Food was definitely not guilt-free but it was delicious and a total treat. Great vegan options too. Recommend: the Vegan Chilli Fries or the Mac n'Cheese Nugs. The girl serving us (blue hair and glasses I think?) was really friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back for a fun night.
Had such high expectations and they were all met! Loved the food - the chilli fries are absolutely the best I've ever had, the burgers were great and the tenders were lovely. They have a free refill on pints of fizzy drinks that's great value, but their drinks selection overall looked great. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Games were great fun and great value, will definitely be heading back soon.
So myself and my parter are foodie people and we had seen on Facebook about token and the food looked and sounded amazing. It also had a huge bonus for me of having retro video games something i do love. However what we saw on Facebook compared to what we saw at token were two complete different things. So we came from Kilkenny myself/parter, her sister/parter on sunday to try token. Firstly all i can say when you go to walk in its like walking into a shady strip club during the day with the bouncer etc, was a bit uncomfortable. So with regarding our server lovely fella but didn't have a clue really about the menu at all, so wasn't to helpful. All of our fries were cold on arrival one of my sliders was burnt. The blue cheese salad had no blue cheese, same with goats cheese salad, The fries were swimming in bacon grease. It wasn't pleasant at all really. and all this for €25 each, its not cheap at all and the portions were tiny. The funniest part was we were sat with a huge holder of plastic cutlery, but when my partner asked for a straw we were told sorry we are cutting back on our plastic output so we don't have any!!!. we were also then all violently sick after it for the evening.
To finish we went to token for the food and the games were a bonus. but i think if you go here go for the games and the drink and just forget about the food, there are fine dining restaurants cheaper that you will get a better feed in before hitting this dive bar.!!!
What a gem this place is.....can't wait to go again.
They had a good drinks selection and the food was excellent, with great veggie options - especially the vegan chilli fries. Games were loads of fun too, good selection and not much queuing even though the place was busy.
When we arrived we were told we would have to wait 20-25 mins for our table (even though we had a booking) but fair enough we thought, we'd get a pint and play some games, which was great fun. In reality we had an hour wait before we got a table, and we had to sit in the pinball room which isn't really the nicest place to eat - its dark, very loud and cramped. After being seated at the table we had a further 45min to an hour wait for our food to come. When it did, one persons food came out cold - we were actually there to celebrate this persons birthday so it took away from it a bit. I found the food to be excessively salty, no need for that at all! I couldn't finish my food because of it. Overall we really regretted not getting food elsewhere before we arrived as we lost time waiting when we could have been upstairs in the arcade. I know it's early days so we will most likely visit again in future once everything has been smoothed out but we would be reluctant to eat here again. Other than that, the atmosphere is nice, the games are great fun and we found the staff to be nice and apologetic when things went pear shaped. I really wish the best to everyone involved, its a fantastic addition to Dublin and it can only get better!
The two outstanding things about this venue is the vegan food and the pinball/arcade game cabinets.
When we arrived we were seated and presented with a menu. I chose the vegan hot-dogs and fries, my friend had the tacos and fries. The first disappointment was when all the food was delivered my hot-dogs were nowhere to be seen, when I inquired with the waitress she said "I only deliver what the kitchen gives me", taking no responsibility for the problem and just running off which I found distasteful.
Luckily after a while the greeter who lead us in at the beginning inquired how things were going and was able solve my hot-dog issue with me. Once they had arrived the hot-dogs were very nice, albeit small portions for the price.
Food out of the way we got down to enjoying the arcade machines and there was a great selection. Sunset riders was my personal highlight but I had great fun competing with my friend for high scores in donkey kong and ghosts and goblins. I would say that it was overly busy and there was nowhere to chill out between games so it was a case of trying out the games we wanted to and then clearing out.
All in all, it was a great novelty evening and a welcome chance to play some arcade classics. This place is not about the food or beer and that's fine with me.
