A disappointing dinner on a wintry Saturday night ... very loud and noisy, with tables very close to each other. Every course came out of the kitchen cold and took forever to return heated replacements (and strangely my risotto portion was suddenly half the original size), with no fresh parmesan added. Very careless kitchen and slow service, with a waitress/hostess who was pleasant but too busy 'being busy' to be attentive. We live a few blocks away so this is a loss for them and us. We would have been frequent diners if this had not been a lousy experience, even though it is also somewhat overpriced generally.
They need more waitstaff. The poor waitress was completely harried, and we at several tables noticed that the food was cold by the time it got to us. The music was good but way too loud for conversation - it was loud enough to cause hearing loss, and I say this with knowledge of the subject.
Short staffed and both of our entrees (burger and risotto), were not only cold but refrigerated temperature! When we sent them back we were told that we would have to pay again if we wanted new ones as we had both taken a bite!!!
Left and went to Au Cheval which was great. Troquet was absolutely awful.
Way to loud with the constant euro beat music turned up loud...food was good...music volume to high everyone was shouting to be heard....table too close to front door opening and cold gusts of air
We randomly selected this very small restaurant thinking it would be quaint and demure ambience. It was like a club atmosphere with waitresses continually pumping up volume and singing behind the bar. Noise was so loud three groups of couples behind us walked in and right back out. Won’t ever go there again. So loud I couldn’t even speak to people across the table without screaming.
Far too noisy, can’t have a conversation
Un super moment
Un peux de France à New York qui fais beaucoup de bien quand on passe nos journées avec des Fast food
Great place but the music is played very loud, so difficult to hold a conversation.
Great dinner ! The food, the service and the vibe were amazing.
Will definitely be back for dinner or will come for brunch.
Nice French restaurant, but nothing exceptional
French Bistro with a marble bar and simplistic décor, right on the corner of Lafayette and Grand. My friend saw this place on Instagram and suggested we should give it a try.
We had a reservation for 8pm, not sure if was needed but anyway, we arrived there a few minutes early and were promptly seated. Service was pretty friendly and attentive (big bonus points!)
Gnocchi de pomme terre
Frisee aux lardons
Food was ok but nothing that I would be rushing back there for. I would definitely go again if Im in the area with no other plans or if you are looking for a relaxed open place to have some decent French bistro fare while catching up with friends.
White Bordeaux (yes, I like to be boring and skip the cute cocktails!)
Carrot cake, was OK a little on the sweet side. Also, maybe a bit dry?? (don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad just that I have had better)
Our waitress was super sweet and offered us a shot of tequila along with our shot. I skipped but is the thought that counts right?
Really, more of a bar than a French bistro. Very loud. Chefs board selections uninspired.
Best little French restaurant in my neighborhood. The staff, to food, the vibe all la
The food was overpriced and not as good as expected. They never really come to take order, we had to keep asking to menu, orders, etc...
Atmosphere was just ok
We had a blast - food was amazing - great wine - wonderful service !!
Entered this place at 7p
Our server was very nice but service unprofessional.
Kitchen doesn’t seem to know how to cook meats with temperatures requested or our server put it in wrong .
Our meats were over cooked and some of the portions sort of unacceptable. My friend who ordered a hanger steak had his piece that was around 6 ounces.
I wanted to give this place a try , especially for the Cote de bœuf which was a let down (lacked that dry age flavor)
Deserts lacked creativity and some I could tell were sourced outside, the tarte tatin was the saddest I’ve seen in my life.
I truly hope they improve but
I won’t be back at Troquet
Great service, cute place but v loud and overpriced for very small portions
Excellent in every regard
My friends and I dined at Troquet around the holidays. I always pass by since it's so conveniently located near all major subway lines. The ambiance is quite cozy, but a bit cramped. Evenings can get a little too loud, so if you're looking for something quiet, probably not the place. The food was good, locally sourced ingredients, great wine list. The bill for 3 inc. a bottle of wine came out to $160 excluding tip. The polenta gnocchi is an interesting choice, not too heavy and can be an appetizer size if you're really hungry. The fries look delicious. I will definitely have to try those next time. The steak for two also looked great as well.
The food was good, but the Bloody Mary's were outstanding!
This is a cozy restaurant with a small menu but packs a punch. The noise level is quite high but the overall ambiance and the food make up for it. Their wine list is exquisite.
Over priced, slow service that kept forgetting our order. I had the croque - way too much truffle oil. The avocado toast was small and served weirdly. Skip.
Horrible experience. Had gone for lunch a few days ago and it was good, so wanted to try it for dinner. There was a party of probably 10-12 people with 3-4 kids under the age of 3. They were screaming, crying, running around the whole restaurant, and outside the restaurant, hanging on all the tables, etc. no one said a thing. It was so unprofessional and irresponsible of both the parents and restaurant as a whole, it was shocking. No regard for anyone. At one point a dad picked up his crying child who was having a temper tantrum off of the ground, the child kicks me in the back, the dad semi-apologized to the table NEXT to me. Those people said “your kid actually kicked her” and he turned to me and shrugged. It was a horrendous experience. The staff could not have cared less what was going on around them. That restaurant will never last.
The staff was very friendly & food amazing. I'd definitely go again!
Waiter got the order wrong and ended up being charged for his mistake. Food was overcooked and lacking any redeeming qualities. I've had much better food at a place for less.
horrible food. took 45 min for our order. pancakes flavorless and completely BURNT! I could not swallow them. Sent back. Ordered yogurt and granola. Granola SOGGY. UGGG not going back anytime soon.
Casual dining and friendly service, and affordable.
It's a cute place and the food is just okay....not particularly special but okay. The first time I was there I had the caesar salad and a burger .
But the second time we tried mussel dish and it felt like the mussels came out of a can.
My wife had the grilled octopus and it was inedible.
I tried the rack of lamb which was nothing special .
Our biggest issue was with the bartender. I ordered a very dry Tito's Martini for my wife. Unfortunately, it arrived about 2/3 vodka and 1/3 vermouth.
My wife very politely said she was sorry to do this, but she would like to send it back and try again.
We watched as the waitress brought the drink back to the bartender who very clearly was unhappy, argued with the waitress, took her time and then sent us back a martini that was half full, watery but yes, dry.
I guess we got punished for her incompetence and apparent bad mood.
It's a shame because I stay right down the street at 11 Howard quite frequently now and thought this could be a fun place to hang out .
P.S. The waitress was lovely, apologetic and 100 per cent professional.
Bartender was the opposite .
Had the french restaurant week lunch menu in July 2018. The fish entree was delicious and perfectly cooked. The soy sauce based beef dish was pretty bad, too salty over cooked. The gazpacho was not tasty, food processed tomato really, but was still nice to have something cold in the summer heat.
The service was good and location nice. I would give them another try on their regular menu.
Nothing French in le Troquet apart from the name.
Way too loud American music that you would never be abused with in France.
No French decorum.
Bottom line an American restaurant with a French name.
The food was not very good. I got the charcuterie plate, asked if the foie gras was seared or terrine. Was told seared. It was not. It was the terrine, which I was not interested in. The country pate was not good. No pistachios. Gray with black specks in color. No pronounced flavor. The foie gras terrine was not very good. There were pockets of HUGE salt flavor. Way oversalted in areas. The brie was a very inexpensive brie. The bleu was quite good. The duck rillette was pretty good. The cured meats were marginal at best. Overall the charcuterie was an immense disappointment.
The tuna tartare with avocado cream should really be called what it is: Tuna Tartare with Pureed Avocado. There was no cream. The presentation was embarrassing, to say the least. The flavor was passable.
The Waygu Burger did not come with caramelized onions. Instead, a slice of tomato, AN END SLICE OF TOMATO! Really? Again, very disappointing. As for the burger, the bun was 1/3 bigger than the bigger and the burger itself was quite unlike the Foie Gras Terrine in that there was NO SEASONING. So, there was little flavor to dissect and absorb. Incredibly disappointing.
The ambience is quite appealing. The Manhattan on the rocks was very good. The wine selections were quite good as well.
Overall, the food really brought this place down. I had such high hopes for a fantastic evening and it was severely crushed by the disappointing food. Maybe go for drinks and the staff. Don't stay for the food.
What a great experience !!! The food is just amazing and the decor is super nice. I’ll be back for sure ...
Quaint corner restaurant with nice ambiance and great service. Food was good and the wine I ordered (by the glass) was really good. It always helps when you describe what you like and they allow you to sample before you get stuck with something you don’t enjoy.
Lovely addition to the neighborhood. The food was great, the service was polite and quick. The doors were wide open the the street with a delicious breeze on an early summer day. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Terrible service and terrible time. It was just the four of us planning to have brunch on a rainy Saturday. The place is very small and music is too loud- people talk even louder because of the music. We basically ordered off the menu that only had the eggs and small pancakes to be cooked, everything else was salad, fruits, bread and salmon. Tell me how the two girls sitting next to us ordered their food 30mins after us and had their food arrive way before ours-and they had a BURGER! After trying to be patient, our food comes-BURNT, the pancakes were black on one side and the eggs were overly cooked. And my food did not come out along with the rest, the waiter assured me it will take a min. It came out after my friends were finished with theirs. So I asked the waiter what's going on, and he said the kitchen's system went down-that's no excuse for us to wait for our food when just the eggs had to be cooked, and while everyone else who arrived much later than us got their food. So either you risk your time going here, or be like us having to wait over an hr for our food to come out burnt. Shame on them.
Troquet is a nice, friendly, relaxed environment. The food was delicious as well as deserts. The service was great and very accommodating. It gets loud; however, the music was good.
Went there for brunch. Food was not remarkable; pretty standard and not particularly creative. Service was great and the space is small and cozy
Went here for lunch and sat by the open doors on a lovely sunny day. The menu isn't very big (actually its quite limited) but what they do have is excellent. The caesar salad had a twist to the conventional caesar. Lovely place to hang and enjoy some vino. And the staff is very friendly.
