The Winding Stair
The dinner was delicious but we were surprised by the price compared with the offer
Our dinner was outstanding - delicious, well balanced flavors and ingredients. Try the smoked halibut. The best halibut meal I've had. The halibut was smoked and cooked just right. If you like chocolate don't forget to consider their chocolate mousse with whip cream and strawberries. The strawberries were nothing like I can get in the US. The strawberries were so sweet and succulent I could have had a bowl of them with a spoonful of their in house whip cream.
We really enjoyed the food and the place is fantastic. Will be back again for sure :)
Loved it. Great position, overlooking the Ha’penny Bridge, though I would prefer if the tables were side on so that both people had a view, but I guess that may reduce the number of covers.
The service was very good, though my husband chose a’la carte and was not prompted to order veg so he just had fish, potatoes and sauce, essentially. I had the pre-theatre menu which was absolutely excellent. I had never eaten eel or cockles before and really enjoyed them - also the mackerel was by far the nicest I’ve ever had. The bread and butter pudding with whisky sauce had me considering whether I could get away with licking the plate. The set meal was excellent value; the a’la carte not so much. I have already recommended the Winding Stair to a friend and certainly hope to return myself.
Excellent food and great service
Nice small restaurant with good food! Could be recomended.
This is certainly one of the best tables in Dublin. The quality of their food is outstanding. From starters to deserts, I simply loved it all. There is a beautiful ambiance and if you get one of the tables by the windows (overlooking the river) your night can be memorable.
Top quality food, good wine, excellent value pre theatre menu and great service to top it all off
This restaurant is a little gem. A really original and interesting menu, excellent wine list and outstanding service. Would highly recommend anyone who wants a great meal in an interesting setting in Dublin.
Tasty food in a great location. We were lucky to have a window seat looking out at the river and the ha'penny bridge. The starters are a bit expensive, but that is my only complaint. Overall the bill came to 300 EUR for four starters, mains, 3 desserts, one bottle of wine and 4 glasses of dessert wine.
The service was very good - friendly and informative but not intrusive.
We were at 7 pm in the restaurant and the waiter gave us the Menu a la Carte and told us that was already late for the 2-3 courses menu that we wanted and saw in Internet (but if you leave till 8h15 you can have the menu!!! Is actually in the website).
It was very upsetting because the waiter wasn’t flexible at first, the food was very simple, served cold and expensive for the value. Just the Atmosphere was great, with the view to the Liffey river and temple Bar. It was a shame, especially because it was a special day for us.
It is very nice and everyone in Dublin should take the oportunity to have a dinner in the winding stair.
A wonderful place to take overseas guests!
The service was exceptional, followed by the desserts and then the entrees. The wait staff collaborated extremely well to keep and eye on our every need and made quality recommendations about wine pairings. The mackerel entrees were loved by those who ordered it from our group, the potato dumplings less so as they were a touch bland, though still good. Most extradorinary was the pear and ginger dessert which exploded in taste, followed by the bread pudding and the rhubarb mash up. We took a Limerick friend and two visitors from Memphis and everyone loved it, agreeing it is a place that you can recommend with confidence.
Beautiful atmosphere in a charming place with original recipes and quality food, tables are maybe a bit tiny, strongly recommended
Great food. Fine wines in a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
I've been there for dinner and the service was extremely poor. We got there and we were given the menu, but then they didn't ask us anything for at least 10-15 mins, not even if we wanted some water! Another couple came after us and got the water straight away and they also got their drinks order straight away. So while I was waiting for them to even pay attention to our table, I was wondering why the difference in treatment. The room is so small that doesn't have that many table and they're not so busy so it's really not justified and really they were passing by our table multiple times. We had to ask then because they basically forgot about us, a waiter was walking by (yes, walking by) without paying attention and I had to raise my hand to ask if we could order and also get some water. So we got to order and waited for the main which was pretty fast and came in fair time. But then we were left AGAIN with our empty plates (finished) in front of us for I don't know how long. No one asking us if everything was OK or if we wanted a dessert. We waited for a long time and finally a waiter came to clean the table beside!!!! And again we had to get his attention raising our hand to ask if we could have the dessert menu and just then they finally got our plates away. Then after that the order again came pretty fast and the food was amazing. The prices are quite high, so you're expecting an excellent service which you cannot find there. Waiters were going around most of the time without paying attention to the most simple things, the restaurant wasn't fully booked and the room is so tiny that you CANNOT forget a table like that. The food is amazing, but I don't think I'll go back there for the service. A real pity.
Excellent Food and Service
Beautiful setting overlooking River Liffey. Service puts its ding. Great wine list.
Great place! Had a delicious meal and the staff was very attentive, and the place was packed.
Wonderful restaurant. This was our third visit. Very good crab appetizer and smoked haddock main. Convenient location overlooking the river. Be prepared to climb stairs.
Great food, service, wine recommendations and book store!
lovely food, friendly service. A bit hard to get attention as it is a busy bustling restaurant. The ambience is a little chaotic but this comes from the restaurant being so popular and in a nice party of town by the Ha'penny bridge. A few different friends recommended it so I wanted to try it. The steak was delicious and done just right with delicious fries. Desserts looked good too. All in all a lovely evening but be prepared to shout your conversation- it does get noisy. Ideal for groups of friends- don't bring elderly, kids etc because it is cramped and very noisy. Not a good spot for a romantic dinner because of noise levels and tables being close together.
Really nice place with a nice twist to the traditional irish food.
Unfortunately, our table was next to the expresso station. The noise was very disturbing and took away from our dining experience!
I have been visiting this restaurant for years. The food is great, the service impeccable, and the view over the Liffey and Halfpenny Bridge is outstanding. There are always great new dishes, and my trust in the chef leads me to try new things here that I probably wouldn’t anywhere else. And there’s a book store. My favorite restaurant in Dublin.
Amazing experience - beautiful food and a wonderful setting. The atmosphere was fabulous and our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable and recommended the lamb which was so delicious. Only negative - would have welcomed the opportunity to spend a bit longer - our starters came out very fast and the mains very shortly after the starter plates were removed. A bit longer to sit and soak up the ambience and environment would have been better and the only improvement I can recommend. It was incredibly busy and tables are in high demand, but for the money people are spending I feel they may feel a bit rushed.
Food was very tasty. Service was a touch slow. However, it was a busy evening. The restaurant was extremely noisy and way too hot. I’d like to go back on a slower evening to see if I enjoy it more
Delicious food. Central location & the atmosphere is warm. The staff are very nice. Highly recommend.
Delightful venue full of Irish charm and delicious food. I wouldn't hesitate to revisit.
It was our first night in Dublin and we couldn’t have found a more perfect restaurant to kick off our vacation. The food and service were excellent. What a great gem.
Dinner at the Winding Stair was fantastic, the restaurant has a wonderful menu and wine list. The restaurant is located on top of a book store (up the winding stairs) and is very easy to find. The food was prepared expertly by the chefs and the atmosphere is relaxed. I would recommend this restaurant, just remember to book early because it is very popular.
Very disappointing evening. Food was poor, my lamb was tough and cold and my companions fish was really over cooked. I have been before and it was lovely. But after paying €145 for our dinner we went to a pizza restaurant as we were starving
Everthing was lovely from start to finish the only negative was the tables were a little squashed together, would highly recommend this restaurant
Delicious food, great service and recommendations - lovely atmosphere.
Exceptional food and delightful service. I will definitely be back.
Lovely setting, yummy food, excellent service and pre-theatre menu really good value, what’s not to like!
We ordered our main courses and not even 5 minutes later they were at our table . I ordered the vegetarian my friend ordered the lamb . these could not have been cooked fresh . The vegetarian dish was more like a starter size and lukewarm. The lamb was warm not hot and dry . Obviously sitting around for a while! For the prices you are charging I expect freshly cooked hot food. Very disappointed with our meal .
People standing in front of us waiting for their table with their backs at us for the entire period.
Table was dark, in the corner and they were not willing to change it. Staff was watching football on their phone instead of taking care of customers.
