The Winding Stair
Noise level way too high, food only ok overall for what we got too expensive
Steak was over cooked and we set it back and at the same time ordered a glass of wine. Meanwhile the two other guests were finished their mains and no sign of either the wine or the steak, we duly cancelled it and complained to what was a very stroppy lady. I fully understand that restaurants make mistakes but it’s how you deal with them is what counts. Two guests finished and the other without food or drink and the attitude was appalling. Have been many many times but never again.
The staff are super friendly and made a great effort for my friend's graduation. The food was gorgeous as well, we all loved it. 10/10.
Food and service was excellent. Really enjoyable evening.
Very good restaurant. food and service was excellent. Great view of the river and Ha'Penny Bridge
Haven’t been here in years and was keen to return having such great memories of great food and value for money. I cannot fault the staff, they are most welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The place was full and buzzing as I remembered it. However the menu was disappointing, we had veal carpaccio to start which was cut far too thickly for me, and I didn’t consider it palatable as a result. Carpaccio for me to enjoy needs to be so thin you can nearly see through it. My venison main course was equally disappointing, it was tough and sinewy. At €16 for most starters and well over €30 for mains and extra for sides it’s is not good value for money. The saving grace was the attentive staff.
Eclectic and interesting setting with excellent food, friendly service and easy access
Beautiful restaurant in a great location. Friendly staff and fabulous food & wine!
Top class local restaurant. Cosy room, warm hospitality and thoroughly enjoyable food. Can’t ask for more. Highly recommended
I reserved a table for one and then ended up arriving about 15 min late due to my Uber canceling and having to find another (Uber isn’t nearly as available in Dublin, you’ll have much better luck with the Free Now Taxi app which allows you to order a taxi, pay on the app, and there are 20x more taxis available at any given time). I called to let them know I was running late and they were kind on the phone and when I arrived.
The ambience is very warm and noise level is due to happy conversations at each table. The tables are close together so keep that in mind if you want real privacy.
This restaurant is a wine lovers haven. They hand you a multi-page wine list along with the menu but also have wines by the glass and the days specials on chalkboards around the room. I ordered a delicious Malbec, the veal carpaccio starter, the lamb main, and the chocolate mousse pie with boozy strawberries (at my server’s recommendation) and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Everyone seemed happy and the staff were friendly. Order to table time was quick and the servers moved like lightning around the room to refill drinks, take orders, deliver food, and bus tables. To top it all off, a kind stranger paid for my bottle of wine. While that was not under the restaurant’s control, I think it shows what the atmosphere and attitude of its patrons are. Definitely recommend!
It’s a great spot in a lovely location
Great ambience . It’s ok value (for Dublin)
The staff seem overworked. seemed like the head guy was most narky .
They have taken their good beer list off the menu but I was told it’s back on from next week
The fish (ray) was a little overcooked but a nice meal all the same
Lovely food, really nice place, the only negative is the tables are a little close together so our neighbour complained when we used the torch on our mobile phone to look at the menu because the glare was to strong for him!!
Amazing food everything was cooked to perfection and we were both so happy with not only our meals but the service and ambiance in the restaurant was perfect
Excellent food, service and location. Have recommended to others and will continue to.
We dined for lunch on Sat 23/11/19 ,we ate from the A La Carte menu as the set lunch menu did not have a have a wide choice of options .The food and service were good and there was a great atmosphere in the restaurant. We very much enjoyed the experience and they have a very extensive and interesting wine list .
Excellent quality food. It is our second visit and both times we were impressed with all three courses. The restaurant is in a good location by the hapenny bridge with nice views of the Liffey
The Winding Stair is an old favourite and we always try to fit in a meal there on our visits to Dublin. They maintain consistently high standards of food and of service. There is an excellent selection of sherries and wine by the glass. The smoked fish platter is highly recommended. The room is usually crowded and noisy which is something to be awf if that is not your thing. I commented to our efficient and friendly waitress Alison that my bacon collar dish would have been better on an ordinary flat plate rather than the more dish like, high sided crockery it came on. Every time I put my knife down it slid onto the plate and into the sauce. Bring back proper plates I say.
Excellent experience as always
Nice venue but very loud, tables were very small and unbalanced and kept wobbling, Starters felt limited but mains were really good especially the lamb & steak. Bread and Butter Pudding was amazing. Top notch selection of wine, tad on the expensive side when you include their mark up but still great selection.
Fantastic seafood starter- as good as it gets.
Main courses had variety and style. The desserts had interesting flavour and complimented the menu.
Wine is pricey but settled on a modest wine that went down well. Superb service with a bit of fun thrown in. 5 stars.
Lovely meal on Saturday night. Friendly staff. Chowder was very tasty and packed with fish and chorizo. The fish platter was huge! Lamb main also a very generous portion. Will be back
Amazing service, food, wine. We didn't feel rushed, we enjoyed the slow and friendly atmosphere.
The Winding Stair never fails expectations.
It's a place I bring friends and visitors, not as often as I would like, but always a good choice.
Thank you for the good food and vibes :-)
Excellent food - creative dishes made with great produce. Service was phenomenal - attentive but not intrusive. The only issue was the ambient noise in the room (from talking) - it was really loud.
Great food! A bit pricey but definitely would eat here again!
LOve this quirky little Irish Restaurant, in a great location right on the river. Food is always GOOD. Service is great. Have a good wine list and tasty specials
This is a lovely place with great ambiance, wonderful fresh food, and attentive service. It feels special without being stuffy. We will most definitely come again.
Very enjoyable dinner out, before going to a show.
Cuisine de qualité, service déplorable, prix excessifs et salle beaucoup trop brillante
Great restaurant. Both the service and the food was excellent! I would recommand it any day. I will be back.
Excellent overall, but noise levels need serious amelioration by some kind of sound deadening material. We both felt battered. Conversation very difficult.
The Winding Stair is a very cosy, atmospheric restaurant with a lovely view of the Liffey. Having said that when the room is full, which is nearly always, it can be noisy with conversation rebounding off the wooden floors. I had a tomato tartare starter and poached haddock as a main and both were excellent. I dont normally have a dessert but because I had a very busy day with very little to eat, I decided to give myself a carbohydrate kick with the bread and butter pudding which tasted very good but the portion size was excessive so only managed about half. There is a very good selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle. The service is efficient. Happy to return anytime!
Accommodated our request to add one person. Service was exceptional & wine knowledge was excellent. Food was divine & delicious.
1st time here, loved the relaxed feel of the place. The food was unreal and our server was brilliant new every detail of the food and wine . Can’t wait to go back
Amazing food great atmosphere
Staff were so friendly
Lovely food and great service. One of our favourites
Family dinner in a restaurant with special atmosphere, tasty food and nice views over Ha’penny bridge.
Absolutely lovely evening, delicious food and wine and excellent service!
Wonderful food and excellent service in a gorgeous location on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Perfect.
Warm welcome, great, well sourced food, delicious wine, friendly service. Never lets you down
Overpriced and a little tired. For the starters the crab butter was just taken out of the fridge, very cold and tasteless. Tomato tar tar was bland. The steak was over cooked and rubbery and my special of the night was also overcooked (bacon and cabbage) The wine was also not great, for a 44 euro bottle of white it tasted like gas station wine you’d get for tenner( and it was, I checked the price on Vivino and it was a 10 dollar bottle) Whatever magic this place might have had is certainly not there anymore.
