The Winding Stair
Delightfully delicious. Atmosphere was cosy while the service was excellent.
Although recommended by a friend, I am sad to say I left feel rather unimpressed. Despite enjoying the main somewhat more the first course, also known as first impression was very bland and tasteless and very expensive for what it was (Celeriac soup).
Also the staff were very friendly, I felt that they tried too hard and when the bill came for 100 Euros, well I felt I had been stung and could think of far better expensive experiences.
This place is a foodies paradise... I told my hubby that there was place while vacationing in Dublin that was must visit and this was it. Go for those window seats if you can the view is gorgeous. The food was beyond my expectations and they were high to begin with. Their play on sweet, savory, and earthy makes for perfect bottles every time. They have a decent wine list as well
Always love the Winding Stair... My favourite restaurant in Dublin
I am not sure why the place is even in top 100. Food was not even average...it was poor. Extremely over priced for an extremely sub standard food. I don't mind paying for a small portion of food if it was quality, but honestly, the food was shockingly bad. Wouldn't recommend.
Food was very good and the view is excellent! One of us had the 3 course and one a la carte. The desserts in particular were very good. As another reviewer commented, it is a small place and gets noisy, but not overwhelmingly so. Service was great. Extensive wine list.
The Winding Stair is an outstandingly excellent restaurant. It has a compact and interesting menu with always a few additional, enticing evening specials. They have a very good selection of wines by the glass. On my most recent visit I had poached smoked haddock with a cheesy mash and it was the ultimate in comfort food. Unfortunately, this time around, their bread and butter pudding was sold out so I had the chocolate tart which was excellent even if it was a tad heavy (I could not finish it!). The room is very atmospheric with lovely views of the Liffey if you are lucky enough to get a window seat. The only negative is that it can be a little noisy from the voices of satisfied diners. I have been to the Winding Stair on a number of occasions and I have always received great and relaxed service.
Really good food. Booking through open table 15min before the actual time we go in the restaurant made it really easy. Unfortunately we sat down right behind the coffee machine which made the environment more noisy and caused interruptions while holding a conversation. Other than that, if you are visiting Dublin or live there, go check it out, food is delicious
Was . very.
Send back bought
Not any.better.wont b.back.sorry
I dined alone (business travel), but was given a lovely table with views of the river.
My booking was for 18:30 and I had the option of a ordering from the pre-theatre menu (2 courses for 29 or 3 courses for 35). The beef tongue started was good, but the pork chop was amazing. Large, perfectly cooked and still on the bone. Finished with a chocolate meringue pie (more like a pot-du-creme pie?) which was the perfect end to the meal. All told, a great experience and very good value for such a touristy area (right by Ha'Penny bridge).
Excellent cuisine, wine selection and service. I always dine here when in Malahide. Sunday brunch was great, crispy bacon, fried eggs, buttermilk battered chicken atop a Belgian waffle with a drizzle of maple syrup around it.
Lovely restaurant with great ambience. Good location too within Dublin.
Went here for my friends birthday the other night. Received a very friendly greeting at the door and our coats were taken. Server was friendly and attentive without being too in your face. Food was great, very fresh. Contemporary dining in a semi-casual, relaxed environment - I would definitely dine here again!
Great food and a lovely wine selection. Great representation of Irish food.
I have been there for a dinner with friends and it was amazing. Food delicious and good service, they take your coat once you arrive which is very charming
I will absolutely reccomend this place to all my friends :-)
Really like this place a lot. Always reliably good food and attentive and friendly staff.
Fabulous food, a great spot for date night with wife👌
Good restaurant, why do you need me to write more than that to proceed to my next booking?
Wonderful ambience and service and great food too. A special spot.
Amazing food. Possibly one of the best meals I’ve eaten in a very long time. The chowder was fantastic and the lamb breast and haggis fritter was sublime.
The lamb dish was delicious.
Fantastic location and around good. We have bee going for years and it never fails to impress. Wine list superb.
Food, service and atmosphere all amazing. Couldn’t recommend enough
A great place for good food in a friendly atmosphere.
Service was briliant and the waiter could even explain the menu in french!
Fantastic recommendations and typical irish dishes to suit every taste.
A hidden gem up a winding stair, perfect!
Nice food and great quality. Excellent wine. Would love to see a few more vegetarian/vegan options though.
The food was really delicious, we particularly enjoyed the smoked fish platter. The service at our table was fine but the restaurant was very busy and noisy (but it was Sat night). The food was served very quickly and it felt a bit like a conveyer belt.
The big let down of the evening was the way we were treated on arrival. Apparently only the manager could seat us so we were left standing for over 5 minutes hovering over other diners' tables as he was busy upstairs. I understand if that's your policy to handle things that way, but then you should have somewhere for people to wait other than virtually on top of other people eating. Also, the fact that the manager didn't even acknowledge the fact that we'd been waiting was just rude. We've been going to the winding stair for years and always loved the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere but it just felt rushed, overfull and certainly not the experience we enjoyed before. I'd recommend the food but maybe to try a quieter time.
The food is rather basic (despite the fancy words on the menu card) and much too expensive for what you get. 7 EUR for a standard beer. The salmon-based starter (15 EUR) was a small pancake with a minimal piece of salmon on top. 42 EUR for a small steak with fries seems not great value. Too many small tables are placed in a small room to maximize turnover. Can't recommend this restaurant to a friend.
Really nice restaurant, service was great and food was generally v good.
For lunchtime restaurant quite quiet. Therefore lacked atmosphere.
Food fairly basic. We ordered from the lunch menu and had starter and
mains only. Disappointed overall.
Excellent service with fantastic food and lovely view of the keys.
Lovely venue great ambience service first class and expensive so be warned😀food was very good and we had a great experience
Can’t believe they do not hold a full liquor license so no Irish coffee!
I selected no for referring to a friend as the food was very expensive for what we got. Although it was very nice I wouldn't say it was the best meal I've had. I don't mind paying high prices for a meal but when I do I expect to be blown away by it.
Excellent service. Great atmosphere and gorgeous food will be back!
I saw an article on "The Winding Stair" in an in-flight magazine and decided to book via OpenTable.
We had an excellent lunch of traditional Irish food with a modern twist that was delicious.
Served by charming and friendly staff we were looked after very well indeed and would recommend the restaurant without hesitation. Lovely food, staff and ambience.
Valentine’s Day, had tables and was decent dinner!
We always have a great experience when we go to The Winding Stair. The food is delicious and inventive, you always get something different, and the staff are attentive without being intrusive, and very friendly. The restaurant also has a great atmosphere, it’s busy and bustling which I prefer over a restaurant that is dead, and everyone just seems to be enjoying their evening. I always recommend The Winding Stair to friends who are visiting Dublin and want to go out for a nice meal.
Food was excellent. Steak cooked to perfection. Will be returning one day
Lovely spot with a great independent beer list and equally impressive wine list
Nice staff. Nice food. Ambience is great. Would not go often there though as it is a bit expensive for me. But fine if you can splash around a hundred for 3-course, 2 glasses of wine, a cup of tea and coffee.
Birthday meal for my hubby. If you’re looking for something a little more fine dining but in a relaxed setting you will love it. We had a lovely meal and the waitress was very helpful in choosing a wine, we were able to taste a few to help us decide.
