Food was terrible, only for the waiters friendly service I would write alot worse. Wont be going back.
Visiting from the U.S.A, we celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary at the Reg. The entire staff made us feel very welcomed. The food was phenomenal. Never have we had such amazing sea food chowder! When we come back to Ireland, we will come back to the Reg, for sure!
We dined outside. My Mussels were ok but not great, I asked for a side of veg instead of chips. It was a watery bowl of only corugette. Our friends had the chips which were terrible , small left over burnt bits, which the waiter apologised for but didn't offer anything else. Over all dissapointing.
I had the lemon chicken goujons as a main which were amazing. I had them previously as a starter . My friend also had the lemon chicken goujons as a main. The portion was a decent size and accompanied with chips. I also had the lemon posset which was tasty. My best dessert there so far has been the chocolate and walnut brownie. Two visitors from pennysylvania were also thrilled with the food and said they would eat there again. The cocktails were delicious. My favourite is the strawberry daiquiri. The staff were amazing. They were very friendly and helpful. The service was fast. The dj played a good choice of music . I enjoyed dancing there.
Our server was great. The Seafood Chowder and soda bread was some of the best we’ve had. The salad was just okay. The Seafood platter was not okay. Everything smelled too fishy or tasted bland. I had higher expectations. I’m sure it was just an off day.
I'm afraid the service was poor, the staff were nice but not professional, when we arrived we were left standing for a few minutes with No one telling us if our table was ready or if someone was getting our table ready... when the food came , there was no butter for the bread , we needed salt and pepper for the table and no one asked us was everything all right. The staff were polite but under trained. Unfortunately it was the food that would stop me from ever going back. The crab salad starter was mushy and didn't taste fresh, it looked like it was sitting in a container all day like a tuna sweet corn mix. My hake was really greasy and quite small and besides the potato it only came with 3 or 4 small chunks of veg. It should come with a side of veg. My creme brule had lovely flavour but needed to be set longer. Sorry for bad review, hope it can be constructive critisism.
Great service and wonderful food as always. Many thanks for a great night! The Reg is one of our local bars and the food is outstanding, especially the Seafood options and the cheesecake! :-)
We went to The Reg to celebrate a special occasion and we weren't disappointed! The Reg is one of the rare venues that achieve a level of service that matches the top-class food prepared by a chef who knows his profession inside out! The unpretentious menu combines the very best of Irish and international cuisine to make The Reg a truly cosmopolitan dining experience in the atmospheric and historic setting of Ireland's oldest civic building - Reginald's Tower. Our seafood tasting plate starter served to remind us of just how lucky we are to live within fishing distance of some of the best food our seas have to offer. Eleven out of ten across the board. Well done to all! Waterford can be proud of The Reg!
Recommended by our daughter - we chose roof-top dining and even though it was a little loud - the scenic view of the water and Reginald tower more than made up for it. Great ambiance! The seafood platter and hake dish were so fresh and light at the same time!
This was my first time eating at the reg . I have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely go there again. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious especially the lemon chicken goujons i had for a starter. My friend really enjoyed the beer battered fish and chips. The bitter chocolate and walnut brownie was divine. The strawberry daiquiris went down a treat. The music there was great too. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The rooftop terrace is great too if youre lucky enough to get a good seat. The view is great.
ate on the roof terrace with a group of work colleagues, fabulous ambience, lovely food and prompt friendly service, highly recommend and cant wait to return
Lunch for 4 people. Everyone was satisfied with their meals. Good variety on the menu. Staff were efficient and friendly and welcoming. Nice ambience. Will go back.
Fun experience on our trip to Waterford. WE each had simple meals - mussels, risotto and burgers - but each diner was pleased. Good selection of wines and fair prices. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. Muzak was a bit loud at our table and she graciously lowered the volume for us.
The food was nice, if overpriced for rather basic pub food. The steak at 24 euro for lunch deserves better service. The service was disjointed and indifferent - we had 3 different girls serving our table and no one seemed to know what was going on. More like trying to get a restaurant meal in a pub - and it wasn't that busy. We had a hard time getting drinks we ordered (even though we were seated next to the bar) and we waited about 15 minutes for the dessert menu. So overall the food was nice, but I wouldn't rush back as the service is very slow and not very friendly - for the price you are paying - you would get much better service in a restaurant.
We had a very enjoyable dinner in the lovely rooftop restaurant. Food , drinks and service were all very good, and we really appreciated the birthday plate they brought out for my husband.
Cenamos toda la familia, el servicio fue excelente al igual que la comida. El ambiente era muy bueno y no tardaron en servirnos la comida. La comida era de cinco estrellas y había mucha variedad donde elegir.
Lovely food, the restaurant is very clean and the staff very nice, friendly and helpful.
Just two things for me it’s not right for the restaurant,
1. The waitress should wear a uniform, jeans at a restaurant with this level is bad
2. And why a radio (walky-talky)???
But this is my opinion.
The night was lovely, thank you THE REG.
We dined at The Reg on Saturday 10th February 2918 as we had friends visiting from London. They are well travelled and are used to dining in London. They commented that the restaurant was on par with any restaurant they've eaten in around London, but at a fraction of the cost. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and efficient and on a very cold night, the ambiance was warm & cosy. We liked the choice of music on the whole except we all chuckled at one Christmas song which made its way into the compilation. Just a triviality so no points deducted!! It was a Simon Cowell "yes" from us all!!
Dining room was being renovated and a poky part of the bar was passed off as a restaurant. If I had known that I would not have booked. Very disappointed.
It was late booking so very happy with service and menu on such a busy night on lead up to Christmas. It was a party of 4 and seating was a little cramped at our table., but as late booking not complaints.
The food was perfect, really delicious. Staff were very friendly but unfortunately the service wasn't the best. This wouldn't put me off going back. We had booked a table for 19.45 but not seated until after 20.00. Then waited for a menu for about 10 mins. Overall we enjoyed eating in The Reg and would definitely go back.
Good food, lovely ambience, friendly efficient service. I look forward to a return visit.
Lovely spot, unfortunately rooftop bar was being renovated so we didn’t get the table we requested but the server couldn’t have been nicer about it
Despite hearing negitive reviews of the Reg (bar food downstairs ), I thoroughly enjoyed the venue & menu of the Reg restaurant (upstairs), as did my companions (some of whom weren't initially happy about the choice of venue). The staff were very helpful. Perhaps include more celiac options. We would definitely return.
Superb Sunday lunch for the family, all tastes catered for. My dish of choice was lamb shank cooked to perfection, full of delicious flavors.
Cozy atmosphere in October, excellent service from Frank. Deserts were delicious, the melting chocolate cannonball was both entertaining and divine.
We were touring Ireland and found The Reg from trip advisor. Had a very good meal and Emily our waitress was friendly, answering any queries we had regarding the menu and was efficient making our meal a pleasant experience.
I wanted a special meal for our last night in Ireland. Not knowing the area, but knowing Open Table, I used the service for this reservation, and I wasn't disappointed. We were not able to sit with the water view because that is reserved for drinks, but we were seated in a very cosy area which was wonderful. The Thai and salmon salad I had for starters was one of the best I have had, and my cousin was equally pleased with her Caesar's Salad. I had the whole sole - cooked perfectly and served with mashed potatoes and greens. My cousin's chicken equally as tender, also served with the mashed potatoes and greens. We treated ourselves to dessert, and found out we had received them as a compliment from the management! It doesn't get much better than that - plus another chocolate dessert was served as an added bonus. (Don't get the idea you can always receive this sort of service!). The whole evening was very memorable, and we were very sad to be leaving this wonderful country. Looking forward for a return visit soon
Fantastic, food was amazing and staff were lovely.
We had a group of 8 looking for a nice spot to dine. We were a little late for our reservation but our table was waiting. Even though the bar was very busy due to local sporting event; service was good, food was good and were we're thankful to be there.
Staff were not aware of the booking we had made (although they never actually checked). The restaurant was closed and only had a bar table for 2 by the door. They seemed very uninterested in us or whether we had a good experience. We left without eating.
Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Will definitely be going back!
Booked restaurant for my fathers birthday! Restaurant closed so put at a table in a noisy bar ! We walked out !
Great food but spoiled by the loud, obnoxious and foul mouthed group seated behind us.
Been to the reg on a number of occasions (both for lunch/dinner or just a night out). Staff are always extremely friendly and polite. There was one girl in particular the last time I was there (last Saturday),didn't get her name but she was so professional and really nice when serving us. Food was lovely, price was great and overall experience excellent. Love the reg and would highly recommend it.
Good food. Local produce. Needs a bathroom upstairs for restaurant dining. Need to manoeuvre two flights of stairs for restaurant, not suitable for people with mobility issues. Not wheelchair accessible.
