Everything was pretty darn near perfect. We started with cocktails at the bar, and they were delicious. The bartender was extremely friendly (as bartenders should be!) Then we were seated for dinner, and the ambiance was amazing. We felt cozy and comfortable. All the servers were delightful.
The food was delicious, and our only constructive feedback is that the portion of venison seemed small. We had appetizers, so it was okay to have a smaller entree, but for the price we would have been disappointed in the serving size if we hadn't already had a very satisfying entree.
We will be back!
Great food, nice atmosphere. I would go again.
We had raw & shellfish platter as an appetizer which was delicious. Vegetarian choice was ok ( Risotto balls). Roasted lamb was excellent. Great wine selection
My dining experience was phenomenal. The service, the food, the plating, everything was impeccable. I can’t wait to return!
In our experience there isn’t a restaurant in the Baltimore/ DC area that can match Magdalena for this level of cooking excellence. There are clearly talented chefs in the kitchen who prepare dishes that taste wonderfully and look good. An extremely satisfying evening.
In a word, our visit to Magdalena was, "special." The small twists in presentation and surprise ingredients layered with decadent flavors made the experience memorable in all the right ways. Service from the valet to the table was friendly and capable, but the food/cocktails/wine were the stars of the night.
We will be back. We were truly wowed.
This restaurant brings fine cuisine up a notch in Baltimore. It is in the stratosphere with Charlestons and the other fine restaurants in this city. The staff are wonderful and professional, and nothing is rushed. Every dish was unique and impressive and tasty. The wine list and the whiskey lists are unparalleled. This is a first class place and a dining experience.
The desserts were incredible
Went for our anniversary and were not disappointed. The service was excellent; we were very pleased with our waiter who was friendly and efficient. The food also was excellent as we both went with the lamb. My wife had a non-alcoholic drink which she really enjoyed. I went with wine and found it to my liking. Would recommend this for a special occasion.
This was our first time at Magdalena, and it will not be our last. The attention to detail in each dish was as impeccable as the flavors. Can't wait to come back.
The new Fall menu is spectacular. The venison and squab entrees and the squash soup will make you feel so warm and cozy. The attentive service adds to the overall experience. Treat yourself to this city's culinary gem. You'll have no regrets.
Absolutely fantastic experience in every aspect! Food, service and ambiance were all on par with the best in Baltimore.
Magdalena is a gem. Claudio is knowledgeable and the service was outstanding
Another great evening. Dinner was awesome. Always such a treat to dine at Magdalena. Food, Service, Dinning room. Such a delightful night out. Dottie takes such good care of her quests. We will be back.
The food was nothing short of amazing. Interesting, beautifully prepared, and creative. The ambiance is cozy with an elegant flair. The service was good, not as good as the food, but reasonable.
Incredible service, ambiance, food and wine pairing.
We had an excellent meal. The karma salad, beet and goat cheese appetizer were all great. The squash soup with crab meat was outstanding.
Magdalena's never disappoints. The menu is always different and everything is terrific
We have known about Magdalena for quite some time but just made it there for the first time this past week. It was pretty empty inside as it was a nice night out so most dinners were outside on the courtyard (which was gorgeous, felt like you were not in Baltimore!)
The apps and main dishes that everyone ordered were top notch. Some of the best dishes we have had in Baltimore! The butternut squash soup with crab meant was to die for.
I will admit the main course menu items appear a little "over done" at first glance but you will not be disappointed when your meal shows up!
Will definitely be going back!
Excellent attention to detail. This is not a "quick dinner" stop, go and enjoy the experience. Stay at the Hotel too, absolutely perfect staycation stop, and great for a night out too. Great place
Excellent service and food, as always!
The best restaurant in the Baltimore Area!
Beautiful place, amazing food, great service. Magdalena deserves a Michelin star!
Very elegant setting, superb and attentive service, excellent food.
The intimacy of Treasury Room is compromised when a party of 8 is seated in the room.
The creativity and the execution of each course was outstanding. Their chef really does know the art of food. It's evident with each and every dish.
We had the pleasure of being served by Jen...again. She takes the time to explain the concoctions in detail that will be placed before you. And she wants to ensure that you are pleased with your selections. We were.
It's important to everyone that works there that your experience is nothing short of exceptional.
Go and you'll see what I mean.
The food was not up to the standards of the price point. I would definitely have chosen Charleston or Prime Rib instead, had I known of the quality versus price here.
I have dined at Magdalena 6-7 times since they opened about three years ago. Honestly, it gets better and better each time. The food is phenomenal, the cocktails are perfection, and the staff treats you like family when you visit. I had the pleasure of catching the summer menu in July and again last week just before the fall menu was about to launch. The sweet corn tortellini almost had me in tears both times! Magdalena is a special place. For special occasions, it is my opinion that it is overall the best in Baltimore.
Pre-theater reservation (which I was late for due to a client meeting). I called ahead, to have my dinner companion seated. The staff could not have been more accommodating. Never have to mention the menu and food choices. Among the very best in the city. Pricey entrees (for Baltimore) but very very well worth the modestly higher pricing than some much less accomplished and much less comfortable spots. One of my favorites in town.
The food was outstanding and the service was superior! A great restaurant to enjoy an anniversary dinner!
After reading reviews online I had high hopes for selecting this restaurant for our 15th wedding anniversary celebration. First the positive, the food was excellent! I had the cerviche and scallops for dinner. My husband had the pork scrapple and lamb. All were cooked to perfection with delicious sauces.
Now the bad. We were greeted by many attendants at the valet stand so I was hopeful the attentive service would continue inside the restaurant. Unfortunately that was not the case. The maitre d barely greeted us and I could hardly understand him as he reached down to grab menus. He lead us into the treasury room in a quieter section of the restaurant as I had requested in our reservation. The room was beautifully decorated, however, shortly after seating I noticed the tablecloth was soiled from the previous diners and had not been changed. The table was also only partially set and lacked flowers like the rest of the tables in the room.
Then there was our server. While she was very knowledgable about the menu, she was almost a bit too informal, for example asking if we 'kids' were ready to order. Their model of having one head server for 6 tables also did not work. I appreciate not having a server be too obtrusive and hover, but there were several instances when service was lacking like having to ask twice for more bread because the head server forgot and no one even asked us how our entree was after it had been served. Finally, the 45 minutes before and inbetween courses being served was a bit too long. The server did apologize for the delays but if this is the typical experience, the courses are not well paced. We opted not to wait for dessert as the 2.5 hours we had already spent there for the first two courses was long enough for us.
In summary, our experience was lackluster. Next time when we want a special dining experience, we will opt to go back to the Charleston were you get the food, service and atmosphere you pay for.
Magdalena remains one of the best restaurants in the state, and is consistently outstanding on every level. Inventive menu with great and unexpected textures and flavors, a staff that truly cares and wants your evening to be special, and a warm and cozy atmosphere. I’ve been here several times over two years. They never have an off night or a bad meal. Highly recommended.
Excellent reputation is well deserved.
Improvement management should consider?
Tone down prices on the wine list. Average wines are highly overpriced. I think you would get more return visits.
We had a beautiful evening at Magdalena. Our wait person was friendly but not too present. The food was outstanding. It’s pricey though.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there (it's not cheap so it's not for every day). Everything we ordered was great; it was both very yummy and interesting -- new combinations, which actually worked.
Outstanding jen was awesome
Wonderful experience
Parents love it
Magdalena Restaurant in the Ivy Hotel is always a special treat! From the moment one drives up to the hotel and is greeted by friendly a valet and doorman to the time of departure, every detail is considered. The restaurant has a listing of the return guest's favorite seating, sparkling or flat water, allergies, and occasions to make one feel welcome back. The outdoor patio that was recently completed is a great dining choice in the right weather and the various dinning rooms are each unique and special in their own way.
The menu reflects the season and changes frequently though always pleases the most discerning gourmet and has vegetarian as well as meat and fish choices. Chef Levy is truly outstanding and will gladly modify his recipes for individual preferences as necessary. The wine list is also appealing as are the unique cocktails. Magdalena is my favorite restaurant in the Baltimore region and rivals any I have frequented in Philadelphia, New York or even Paris. Bon Appetite!
We truly enjoyed our dining experience
we are surprised this is not a Michelin star restaurant has all the qualities of a fine Michelin rating restaurant
Best meal I’ve had in Baltimore after living here for over 16 years. Everything was prepared perfectly, with extraordinary attention to detail, without feeling fussy. The flavors were true and fresh. Waitstaff were lovely. Can’t wait to come back.
Everything, even foods you don’t like, are delicious. Service is warm and attentive.
Had an amazing time at dinner with my wife for our Anniversary. Chef Mark and his team did an outstanding job on the food and our server paired up the perfect wines to accompany.
We love this restaurant. We stay at the awesome hotel and eat here. Every dish has been delicious, and the service and decor is impeccable.
