Cape Dutch
I look for a different Five Star restaurant every year for our anniversary. There are so many places in town that have exceptional food, but not the five star quality service. Cape Dutch DOES! A fully five star restaurant understands that "Dining" is an experience, not just a process of feeding yourself. There is time to relax, to converse, to savor the flavors that are expertly fashioned, without the pressure to hurry up and free up the table for the next customer. Our server, Alex was knowledgeable, patient, and had excellent suggestions. I had the Bone in Rib-eye steak that was equal to the best steak I've ever tasted! Bravo to the chefs! Even though I look for different restaurants each year, we will likely return to Cape Dutch for other occasions.
Service lacked luster. Servers weren’t able to anticipate needs. Appreciative of the complimentary dessert for my girlfriend birthday. However, anyone dinning at this price point isn’t coming for a free dessert. I dine out for experience and return for excellent service. Maybe my expectations were higher based on what heard of the dinning experience here and with the restaurant group. It was overall an ok experience.
This is the second restaurant I’ve been to in Atlanta that claims to serve authentic South African cuisine, I would agree with this whereas the other one I have been to prior was a little more creative.
Overall, good food and service...completely different to how the restaurant is shown on Atlanta Eats television show. Dined here on a Tuesday night. Valet attendant could be a bit more personable so that one could get a cozier feeling prior to handing over the keys to a $140k car.
Bottle of wine we requested was not available so an alternative was offered. We were not made aware that we were going to be charged $20 more for the alternative bottle, but yet we were informed that we would be charged $4 more for extra bread to soak up the broth that the mussels were soaking in. Again, gladly paid the upcharge, but it would be a common courtesy to let one know the difference in price of wine bottles...what if it was $100 more? I would not have known, the menus were already taken away.
Last, asked for the leftovers to be wrapped up including the remainder of the tomahawk. Every restaurant that offers a tomahawk cut will additionally wrap up the bone as it is a doggie favorite...Cape Dutch did not do this and by the time we got home to our dog we were disappointed the bone was not in the bag. I am not going to check a doggie bag to make sure “it’s all in there...” just as one would before driving away from a drive thru line.
Overall I shall return to try some of the other signature items identified on the TV show but I will be sure to Uber; ask if there is an additional charge if offered alternatives; and check the doggie bag before leaving ;-)
I was excited about trying this restaurant but ended up extremely disappointed. The charcuterie was the best part of my meal. I ordered a Kansas City Strip that was inedible. The taste was awful, the meat was tough...i was told oh maybe because it was the end of the night ( no at 6pm it would have been just as bad) The elk my dinner companion got was delicious. For $200 I went home hungry. My waiter was great which is really the only reason why I rated the restaurant as high as I did.
It might be easy to become discouraged as you approach this restaurant because the streets leading to it are lined with strip clubs and massage parlors. once you enter the dining area however it is a revelation. Wonderful Ambience wonderful service and wonderful food.
We enjoyed our meal. My husband and I shared the spinach and arugula salad with goat cheese; he had the lamb which was excellent, and my Dover Sole was delicious. We then shared the passion fruit panda cotta for dessert, which was a creative presentation. The only thing we thought was lacking was that they don't serve bread. Otherwise, it was an outstanding meal.
Great waiter. Fun place. Food was great...appetizers particularly good.
The dinner and appetizer was delicious as were the salads. We had the seabass, pear appetizer and grilled romaine salad. The presentation was beautiful and the service was great. A little on the pricey side but knew that going in. Excellent wine menu as well.
Delicious w great service.
A little pricey but otherwise a superb meal. We shared the hanger steak, incredible roasted cauliflower, bread pudding yum. Loved my Shiraz from South Africa. It’s a must try!
The service was terrible. Our appetizer never came and when we notified the waiter of the issue, he didn’t bother to tell a manager or provide any remediation. After the mistake, the waiter seemed to lose interest in our table. The food was good, but due to the poor service, the experience was ruined.
Our first time at Cape Dutch. Food was excellent, we enjoyed the attention and service from the wait staff.
Thanks
The food was delicious and elegantly plated.
Our service was high class!
This was a fantastic find. They are in a small quant appearing location that as a tourist to Atlanta was easy to get to, thanks uber. The people were great. The service was impeccable. They were attentive and very informative.
The food was wonderful. The mussels were perfect and the servings size was enough for 2! I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection, it was as good as you can get. The fish was also perfect.
Our steak was raw when we asked for medium. It then took for ever to come out again
I've been to this restaurant several times. Each time I have complained about the bathroom being too small and does not accommodate Wheelchair/handicap users. I'ts been a few years and they still have not fixed the problem. Shame on you for discriminating.
My fav ATL restaurant- yay Cape Dutch! Awesome food, never disappoints! Ask to be seated near the woodfire grill if available.
Grilled peach salad with blue cheese and frisée salad with a honeysuckle drizzle and some sort of delicious ham? One of the best salads I have ever eaten...server (Reggie?) very knowledgeable about wine. We had an excellent Rosé from South Africa. My seabass was exquisite, so flavorful and cooked to perfection. My business partner’s oven roasted branzino was over cooked unfortunately. Dessert was phenomenal (see photo). Music was loud but mellowed later, great meal.
Food was great, service was better. Thank you Corey!
We enjoyed the restaurant very much and our waiter Alex was wonderful .had read about the place and said food was great but service needed vast improvement loved the decor and the food had a wonderful time. Will definitely come again
Food was remarkable
Service perfect
A+
Amazing food and ambiance. Very excited to learn about this restaurant! As it is very close to the home we are building. Cannot wait to dine here frequently.
Second visit to this restaurant, first as a couple and second as a group of six of friends from a business group. Returned for excellent food and service, but didn't have the same service experience with the larger group. Service started slow and became forgotten. One diner ordered medium well steak and was given rare. When sent back to kitchen he did not receive the steak back until all diners had completed their meal and was brought back in a to-go box. We were hosting and treating the Group to a dinner ticket of nearly $1,000 so very disappointed to have a negative experience for our guests. Would return as a couple, but hesitant to reserve for a group or business dinner.
Pretty food but way too expensive for what you get. Poor value.
Food was ok bill was insane, the portion were really small and we waiting long time to have our food.
One of our top 10 meals of our lifetime. Highly recommend. Chef made several passes by our table to see how things were and our waiter was extremely attentive.
Lovely evening. Delicious food. Fabulous service. Peaceful and tasteful ambience. Need I say more ;)
Amazing food with great atmosphere. Perfect for a romantic dinner.
Great food, cool atmosphere. Great service. We really enjoyed ourselves. The Lamb was so good!!
Dining at Cape Dutch was a superb dining experience. Reggie, our waiter saw to it. He was friendly,
charming, very knowledgeable about the restaurant, it's food and it's history. WHAT A JOY!!!
The food was outstanding. Cooked to perfection.
I will highly recommend Cape Dutch to others and will certainly be back again.
Thank you.
we chose this restaurant for a family reunion & it was a wonderful decision. The whole experience was great.
Delicious food in a beautiful atmosphere. The server was very attentive and gave perfect suggestions. We'll definitely go back soon.
I go around 2 a month. It’s always good for a minute there I was going too often, spending too much money lol
Beautiful restaurant with a delicious variety of items on the menu. Enjoyed the rack of lamb that was cooked perfectly. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta.
The Elk Chop is insane and paired with The Chocolate Block wine will make you rethink your life.
All desserts were fantastic and the staff was great!
Simply superb.
First day of college
The food and presentation were fantastic. The atmosphere was very pleasant, nicely decorated and inviting. Our server, Carlos, was a delight.
We are planning on visiting more often. I would consider this another great Atlanta restaurant.
Food was excellent, would go back just for the food. However, service was surprisingly below par relative to everything else: Entrees were served, but had to wait for steak knives; ordered the elk chop but was not asked how I wanted it (medium, etc.) while everyone else was asked; waiter forgets what he was asked; waitress was not aware they had cava, and was not sure what a sauvignon blanc was.
Excellent food - sauces are really good too.
My mother and I enjoyed Cape Dutch. I was espeacially happy to find my mom truely was pleased with the Cape Dutch experience. Thank you!
