Dublin’s Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath restaurant has a very simple philosophy – the best seasonal ingredients, the simplest of techniques, the most flavour. The real difference at this intriguing restaurant is its truly healthy approach to dining. Though indulgent and mouth-wateringly delicious, Rustic Stone’s menu is based around healthy, life-affirming food, good for the body and good for the soul. McGrath, a Michelin starred chef (at previous venture Mint) and Masterchef presenter but also the man behind the concept and in the kitchen, minimizes the use of sugar and cream, bans the fake and flavourless and produces a menu 90% gluten free, 90% wheat free and 70% dairy free – quite an achievement even before you taste the delectable results of his efforts. The level of detail on the Rustic Stone menu provides everything you need to make an informed dining decision and without busting the bank either.

Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath Ratings and Reviews
Rustic Stone was fantastic, I took my daughter out for her Graduation, we both loved it. We will be back very soon. I would highly recomend Rustic Stone to everyone of all ages .
We had a farewell dinner and I had received a voucher from my colleagues. I did not have it in physical form anymore, but they were so kind to still accept it if I had the voucher code, which was the case. Really really appreciated!! The food was very good, I did not expect to be cooking my steak myself, haha! It was fun but not necessarily what I wanted, still it tasted good and my friend and I were happy with the polenta fries, her burger was tasty and everything else was overall very good. It got a bit loud due to quite a lot of testosterone afterwards, but okay, it was a Steakhouse after all! :-D
We had a wonderful dinner at Rustic Stone. The salmon tempura, peppers and cod appetizers were delicious. We enjoyed the tuna and haddock cooked on the stone. The chocolate soup was wonderful.
Great service and effort to get us our food in time for theatre booking.
Would highly recommend as a pre-theatre spot for great quality food at a reasonable price.
Very disappointing meal with friends. The service was terrible it appeared the waiter simply could not be bothered. He sat down and slouched on the couch when taking orders and stacked and scraped the plates on the table when collecting them. Food was good however the plate i was given to cook my steak on was not hot. The waiter was no where to be seen ( we were downstairs) so I could not ask him to rectify this. The rest of the food was great however and the wine and cocktails we had were fantastic. It was just such a pity about the service. I did not think he deserved the service charge that was added into our bill.
We had very high hopes for our visit to Rustic Stone. It was going to be our "nice dinner out" on our vacation to Ireland. We sat downstairs and were put next to a very loud table of young people. Then, we our order came, the server dropped my husband's fish on the table, picked it up and put it back on the cooking stone. He should have taken it back to the kitchen and brought him a new dinner. We had so many servers we didn't know which person to tell. When we finally told the last person we saw, he was barely apologetic. I expected more from such a well-reviewed restaurant. The salad was delicious but the meat and fish were just okay.
I organised this night for a reunion of friends ,1 who traveled from Enniskillen and 1 from Belfast. We WERE having a lovely evening and did enjoy the food and I was aware of the 2 hour table policy ,After exactly the 2 hours was up despite us all paying an average of 80 euro a head and leaving a well deserved generous tip to our waiter we were ask to go upstairs to finish our drinks. Our waiter had informed us that he had reserved a table for us upstair, When we went upstairs with our glasses of wine in hand we found curtesy of a very haughty waitress that this wasn't the case.We were left standing like complete twats at the top of the stairs,Up until this stage we had all being planning on a return tip.We all found the attitude of some of the staff completely unprofessional as at one stage we were asked if we would like her to sack the waiter who had told us about the reserved table. To be honest this waiter was one of the most helpful waiters I have encountered and he definitely wasn't at fault imo .I found once we paid our bill.it was bye bye , This whole experience has left a bitter taste in all our mouth and really spoiled the rest of our evening and I would be very reluctant to recommend Rustic Stone to anyone.
I Love the restaurant, I have been there many times and I am certainly coming back. One thing I didn't like was the consistency of the plating for the polenta chips, on the previous time there was loads of cheese on top but last weekend the portion of cheese was much smaller.
Both the beef roll and the tuna were amazing.
Very very cramped, we were practically sitting with the couples on either side of us. We could hear every word of their conversations. At one stage, the waiter's rear end was approximately one inch away from my bread when he was clearing plates from the table next to us, not what you want to see while eating. Food overall was ok, the steak was lovely and the pesto chips were the highlight. Poor choices for a vegetarian, pasta, salad etc. Won't be returning or recommending.
Great tasting menu, second time eating there to celebrate graduation with the family. This time around there were some problems when we arrived with the ventilation so there was some smoke (and smell) when we walked in although that quickly got fixed. The meat was good as always, but one of the fillet we ordered had a lot of nerves which isn't expected for fillet. Still satisfied with the quality of food overall and it was very tasty, however with the price paid I don't think that one fillet should have been served.
This was a wonderful dining experience. The food was wonderful and fun. The use of hot stones to cook your food or keep it warm ( you can use them either way) is a great conversation point. Fresh ingredients that are aligned with the seasons. The service was outstanding. Very attentive and professional. There is a wonderful wine list and our server's recommendation was bang on. Great for foodies. My only complaint is that it was a bit noisy but this was worth the trip. Highly recommended.
Great food, even better service.. the only thing I did not like was our table. We were in the corner and we were not seated opposite each other my partner was sitting against the wall and ai was to his right looking down a row of 2 seaters. It was not a nice table. However this will not stop me coming back as everything else was great!!
The only reason we went here was the present of a voucher. From the very first booking email the tone of conversation was overly pretentious - this is a restaurant trading only on it's celebrities chef's status.
The restaurant itself is badly laid out - overly cramped tables give a cafeteria style feel but at sky high prices. It's not a relaxing venue. The menu is *too* broad and has a scatter-gun approach - better to do a few things and do them well.
Food is fine, but there's nicer experiences and better value to be had elsewhere in Dublin.
Dylan Mcgrath is a culinary genius! Can't praise him enough!! Food absolutely yummy!! So different and great presentation. I was over from UK meeting friend from Galway..worth the flight! Staff very helpful, explained how to use "the stone". Cocktails amazing. Japanese style food upstairs also.Accommodated my seating request!. Ambience great...all in all a truly memorable night and will be back! DO try!
All in all a lovely experience, the birthday plate for my wife was a nice surprise. Food was excellent and service outstanding, the only downside was the seating.
We were squashed into a tiny corner almost on top of another couple.
Food was a absolutely delicious however we waited a while for dessert menu and upon receiving dessert we were advised that table was needed bearing in mind seating policy is within 2hours our reservation was for 6:15 we gave a courtesy call to advise we would be a little late we arrived at 6:25 and asked to leave table at 7:45. We then received a discount for half price cocktails we decided to sit at the bar upstairs unfortunately one of the bartenders knocked over some red wine glasses which spilt into my bag and glass broken on the floor my trousers were wet thank god I was wearing black my bag wet the manager was very nice in dealing with situation and offered a free cocktail
Our dining experience at Rustic Stone was amazing ! The food is so fresh and flavorful. Our waiter, Duncan, was so helpful and made our experience better!
After 3 calls confiring the booking and increasing the numbers in attedance whilst reconfirming the need for 1 high chair , the table was still not set up for a highchair. The food was good, but not great or special, and certainly not experimental or creative regarding delicious healthy options as advertised. Service was poor for the price-point of the restaurant. The air-conditioning started to leak over our table, we were moved, it wasn't a problem, but the handling of the situation could have been more professionally handled. Welcome was poor and stressed. Have eaten in superior restaurants of similar style and prucepoints in Dublin and wouldn't return to Rustic Stone.
Our evening started well, greeted by the host who was full of energy, found us a table and we're thought we were in for a great evening. Unfortunately that enthusiasm wasn't shared by our miserable waiter. No energy, no excitement, no charm everything went flat quite quickly.
The starters gave us some different options to try that you don't see every day. I'd say they were nice but not worth the messing around.
The steaks are the jewel people come to see. Beautiful cuts of steak and the theatre of the hot stone made the visit worthwhile.
Unfortunately that theatre is somewhat spoilt having to constantly duck and avoid getting hit by a hot stone as other people are being served around you.
The desserts didn't seem to appeal, obviously aiming for something unique but nothing appeared to live up to the quality of the mains.
I have visited Rustic Stone on a number of occasions and the experience has always never failed to be good. Food is great- Love the cook on the stone feature- very fresh and well presented. Love the cocktails upstairs in the bar- menu is a combo of traditional and contemporary. Rustic Stone is deffo one of my go to's and would recommend.
I am sorry to say I had a bad experience. To start with the toilets were dirty. The table was too small for the "signature" menu when using the hot stone. The hot stone went cold quite quickly and the chips when served were at best warm. I asked for a second hot stone for my wife which was not offered. Also while the hot stone is a novelty I would prefer to be asked to have the option of having the chef cook the meat. The staff were far from energetic and enthusiastic. The starters were very nice, the soup with chorizo and the chicken wings, the steak with prawns my wife enjoyed but my fillet steak was a bit bland. Anyway that's an honest account of the meal.
Extraordinario, el rye de la comida fusion en Dublin.
