Dublin’s Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath restaurant has a very simple philosophy – the best seasonal ingredients, the simplest of techniques, the most flavour. The real difference at this intriguing restaurant is its truly healthy approach to dining. Though indulgent and mouth-wateringly delicious, Rustic Stone’s menu is based around healthy, life-affirming food, good for the body and good for the soul. McGrath, a Michelin starred chef (at previous venture Mint) and Masterchef presenter but also the man behind the concept and in the kitchen, minimizes the use of sugar and cream, bans the fake and flavourless and produces a menu 90% gluten free, 90% wheat free and 70% dairy free – quite an achievement even before you taste the delectable results of his efforts. The level of detail on the Rustic Stone menu provides everything you need to make an informed dining decision and without busting the bank either.

Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath Ratings and Reviews
I enjoyed a very tasty meal recently with my other half in the Rustic Stone..... the experience was worthwhile and will definitely return and recommend to friends.
If I had to fault anything, which I would be reluctant to do.....!! I would say that I felt the menu was a bit restrictive and the tables in the window area are too close together. Its a bit too cosy for comfort or to have a private conversation......: -)
Great food and super salads - Well able to cater to all food request which was important to me as a vegan. Only minor thing was lack of vegan mayonnaise, which is now fairly mainstream and readily available. But otherwise very impressive range and food was really delicious.
The Rustic Stone certainly didn't live up to expectation considering the prices they charge for both food and drink. There were 4 of us dining, we shared some starters which were perhaps the highlight of the evening - the raw board and chicken wings. The bottle of wine we ordered wasn't in stock and the wine we ended up ordering - €48 euros a bottle - was nothing that stood out as memorable. We all had steaks for mains. Of the 4, the only one not overdone by the time they got to the table was the fillet due to its thickness. Mine, which I normally eat rare to medium was almost well done. All of the steaks were €30+ but didn't even come with one side of chips. All sides were extra (I think €6-€7) which is ridiculous. The desserts were by far the worst course. We ordered the trifle and the sorbet - do not order these if you go. Totally overpriced and seriously underwhelming. I honestly don't know what I'd recommend this restaurant for but I definitely won't be rushing back - certainly not if I was paying anyway! The espresso martinis at the end were pretty good though so at least it finished on a positive.
Fantastic food, professional service, relxed atmosphere, world class product, unpretentious enviornment.
Excellent food, great service, lovely ambiance, fabulous evening !
Absolutely stunning meal of seemingly simple dishes. Quite honestly the best meal my partner and I have ever been to, so glad we booked it on a whim for our anniversary trip!
Great food and fantastic service. It is quite pricey for the food as you have to order sides as an extra, but the portions are large and it is really delicious, so definitely worth the money!
Good atmosphere on a Wednesday evening. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was good bistro style. The stone takes up a lot of space given that tables are small but that's my only gripe. We enjoyed it.
I chose Rustic Stone for our annual college friends get together. We’ve been doing this for about ten years now but this was the first year that the food was a real talking point. Everyone loved it. Our servers were very helpful, friendly and attentive.
Just a magic find on a weekend visit to Dublin. Four adults celebrating a birthday and we luckily chose an excellent restaurant. I had checked on TripAdviser but could not find a restaurant that seemed a good choice. Used Open Table and Rustic Stone just seemed perfect for location and a recommended restaurant. The food was superb and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal, including the one vegetarian amongst us. The service was beyond excellent and the restaurant should recognise the gem they have in the waitress we had serve us. A young man also served us and between them we felt very well looked after. However, it was the food that made the evening, it was even better than the recommendations had shown. The ambience was good and it was a busy, buzzing place even when we arrived quite early in the evening. We liked the ambience the only quibble we would have with our excellent choice was the "crappy" neon sign that was just behind our table. Completely unnecessary and distorted the look of the food. Please either turn it off when guests are eating or get rid of the thing.
When we next come back to Dublin, Rustic Stone will be a restaurant we will visit and I hope it continues to be successful.
Simply wonderful - it's rare to get such good food nowadays - we forgot what it was like. Thank you, we will be back, in fact, we would move in if possible.
From the moment we walked in the door we were tempted by all the beautiful dishes others were eating, every single thing looked and smelled divine. We ended up having the tuna and steak on the stone with loads of side dishes - it was one of those experiences that every mouthful seems better than the last. The care that goes into every dish. There's no parsley afterthought thrown on a dish everything perfectly balances into a taste sensation. I love the fact that you are eating a dish that you could not replicate at home - in a word AMAZING xx
Fabulous food, great atmosphere as always. I love Rustic Stone. This time, we had a surprise experience: We just finished our amazing steaks when Dylan McGrath walked in and we managed to take a photo with him. :) A wonderful man with fantastic eyes for details in everything he's doing and done. In my opinion, Mr. McGrath is a culinary mastermind putting Ireland on the foodmap of the world as a point of reference for everyone who passionately loves food. Somehow he just always finds effortlessly the perfect balance between past and future, miles ahead of anyone else yet all invention and adventurous flavors perfected leaving us with creations destined to be instant classics. Professionalism at its finest dining.
- Delicious starters - chicken wings plus Bread & Dips
- Tasty cuts of meat for Main but maybe one too many sauces?
- Service a bit unorganised...asked 4 times if we wanted water for table at beginning by 4 different members of staff
The service was poor and the downstairs where we were seated was very smokey and poorly ventilated. The food was okay but not great with two notable exceptions; the chicken wings and the fried cauliflower were both good. I will say that the bathrooms were insanely clean thanks to the hard working lady in there.
Excellent service. Great food, and an amazing bar with accommodating waiters. It does get crowded and little intimate with fellow diners-for dinner. Despite that, it was an experience to be shared made especially fun with hot stones to cook your cuts on.
Restaurants was fantastic. One of the best we have been to, with a wode ranging large menu. Would go again in a second if back in Dublin.
The food was good overall but I would question the value for money. I had opted for the sirloin on the stone as it is supposed to be their specialty. However, by the time the meat arrived at the table, the meat was nearly well done, defeating the purpose of using the hot stone. It would have been better to have the meat on the side of the stone sliced and then you cook it yourself.
We also had the truffle chips, polenta ones and the pesto ones - all good and decadent!
The children enjoyed their meal (great to have the options for full or half portions of the starters for them). The waiter didn't know what a "shirley temple" was (7up with a dash of grenadine) and it seemed very complicated to get something close to it!
The ambiance was good.
Steak was almost cooked through before it came to me and I prefer it medium rare.
Food was brilliant however.
Also the smell from all the cooking in the restaurant results in your clothes smelling like you were in a kitchen for the night but that’s what you sign up for I guess
We ate there on Friday lunch time, a little busy with only one server, a manager & a runner working.
We had looked up the menu online and were really interested in trying the Rustic raw menu, had even picked what we wanted.
When we got the menu, we weren’t presented with the raw menu so I asked the server. We were informed that the raw menu had been taken off over a year and a half ago. I informed the server that it was still on the website and he apologised!
So, after that the food was a disappointment. Ordered the burger, which is impossible to eat, have to deconstruct it and eat in sections, the salmon tempura was under seasoned & not very hot. Ordered a couple of sides, roasted cauliflower which was tasty, the bean salad with was very salty.
Had an excellent Portuguese red and a macchiato.
Don’t think we’ll be back to rustic stone. Think we’ll stick to fade street.
The reason I booked was due to their early bird menu but wasn't given it. I had to specifically ask for it after being given the regular one which set a bad tone. The place was empty when we arrived so when the table we were given was extremely wobbly we just moved up one table. As I was on a long couch I placed my bag beside me. The waiter came over and asked to take my bag as it would be "in the way of other diners" again there was nobody near me at all. I explained I would move it if anyone wished to sit on the couch. Requested coffee instead of desert 4 times, coffee never arrived. Upon leaving were given the wrong coats. When I went downstairs to use the bathroom I was sang at by the chef trying to get my attention/flirt,highly inappropriate and then when I was going back up the stairs he was sitting looking at me as I went past, very uncomfortable. The toilets were not the nicest.
Staff were attentive & very pleasant, but I had to wear my coat inside because I was freezing (it was a very cold day). We had a hamburger & glamburger, the quality of the beef was poor & barely seasoned, almost tasteless (I didn't finish mine). The truffle mayo chunky chips were nice (paid extra for them) but there were only 4 polenta chips with the hamburger, rather miserly. Disappointing on the whole.
The food & ambiance is pure class.....Great atmosphere.
The service on the other had is outstanding, the manager working last Saturday could not have impressed us anymore.
I will most certainly be back & will definitely be recommending it.
