Dublin’s Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath restaurant has a very simple philosophy – the best seasonal ingredients, the simplest of techniques, the most flavour. The real difference at this intriguing restaurant is its truly healthy approach to dining. Though indulgent and mouth-wateringly delicious, Rustic Stone’s menu is based around healthy, life-affirming food, good for the body and good for the soul. McGrath, a Michelin starred chef (at previous venture Mint) and Masterchef presenter but also the man behind the concept and in the kitchen, minimizes the use of sugar and cream, bans the fake and flavourless and produces a menu 90% gluten free, 90% wheat free and 70% dairy free – quite an achievement even before you taste the delectable results of his efforts. The level of detail on the Rustic Stone menu provides everything you need to make an informed dining decision and without busting the bank either.

Much ado about nothing. Had heard alot about the Rustic Stone-but it was poor. Mutton dressed as lamb really.

Interesting and original menu in addition to the "signature" hot stone items.
Food good, service inconsistent. Initially rushed - starters arrived before our gin & tonics - though it improved later.

I enjoyed the lunch overall but was disappointed that the set Christmas menu was not offered to me until I asked. I had requested this when booking. Thought this was a bit sneaky to just give only the more expensive a la Carte menu to my group initially.

Overall very enjoyable night.
Just to note, downstairs floor was very slippery under foot.
Also the bathrooms needed attention.

A group of norwegian colleagues having a better meal in Dublin. The food was tasty and served in a funny way... on hot stones..
The table was a bit too small for so many plates and hot stones. But the stones were removed quickly. Still I will reccomend this place! For the food!
And of course, excellent service and good looking waiters :-)

We had a wonderful time in Rustic Stone on Tuesday night. The waiters were attentive and unobtrusive and the food was outstanding with one exception. The vegetarian dish was ordinary and disappointing. I’m sure with some thought and research the chef will be able to rectify this and design two vegetarian mains that will allow the non meat eaters a little choice and something along the caliber of the rest of the food on the menu. It’s a wonderful place to eat. Looking forward to coming again soon

Restaurant is almost as pretentious as the chef himself. Deserrt menu describes items in his first person narratives (that is not a joke, have a look for yourself).

Wait staff were all exceptional, they were helpful, polite and friendly.

Unisex toilets are a terrible idea to begin with. Each of the 3 cubicles having its own sink, mirror and hand dryer means you are left standing in wait as toilets are free but people are washing hands or touching up makeup inside the cubicle. Simple case of the greed of floor space for extra tables, hinders customers basic requirements. A gents with urinals is needed.

The steaks were of very poor quality meat, and pretty mean portions. Staff were all lovely and efficient, but there were far too many of them on duty, so a constant stream of interruptions at the table. Noisy, dated interior and very overpriced for what is basically a low quality steakhouse.

Absoloulety amazing, beautiful restaraunt with a fantastic atmosphere. Celebrated mine and my partners 6 months anniversary and it was perfect.
Food was outstanding, never seen anything like this before. Being able to cook your own steak was such an experience in this restaraunt.
The cocktails were incredible.
I would recommend to everybody and we will definantly be coming back.
Staff are wonderful and friendly and very welcoming.

Service was chaotic - food arrived at different times and very late. Salad arrived 10 mins after other's mains. One meal - half arrived after we had finished eating. Staff were frazzled and unfriendly appeared under too much pressure. Food was not of the standard we would have expected for the prices and the salad was particularly disappointing, arriving in what looked like a bucket. Very awkward to eat. My friends were pained looking at me trying to manage it. It was mostly leaves and without anything to recommend it and I like salads. Very few gluten free options. It was too loud and noisy, we could not hold a conversation between 4 people seated close together and as we were seated near the kitchen smoke was getting in our eyes. We did point out the problems and were given complimentary desserts but the meal was a total disappointment as our Christmas outing which we look forward to each year.

All four of us ordered burgers. We could see them on the counter for a good while before we got them. They were small, dry not very hot and flavorless. Not good value for €18. Very disappointed as I had heard good things and was expecting a lot better.

Although we've been happy with the Rustic Stone previously, on this occasion we weren't. We had ordered cocktails (around 12 euro each), and the waiter took our order at the same time. The cocktails arrived promptly, and within a minute, our dinner was put in front of us. (I've been at fast food restaurants where I've waited longer!). People order cocktails to drink and savour before a meal, not to eat with a meal, and we felt we were being hustled (which was by no means necessary, as it was early Sunday evening, and the restaurant was not full). My wife, who had ordered fish which came on the hot stone, was advised to take it off, cut it into pieces, and put the pieces back on the stone. This proved not to be a good idea, as the fish pieces soon sizzled into little brown dry crusty bits. We had ordered a side of celeriac and artichoke, and it appeared to all intents and purposes as a dish of lentils, and we sent this back. Later someone came and explained to us that there were shreds of celeriac and artichoke in the lentils that were not really visible... In which case they should have called it lentils! They offered to bring us another veg, but our meal was advanced by this stage, and we declined. My own meal, lamb something, was heavily salted. I had a chocolate dessert that included chocolate soup which was excellent. We drank the cocktails after the meal, into which the ice had now melted. Two lattes were as expected. The service staff were good, and took our remarks seriously, and tried to compensate. However, when you pay a hundred euros for a meal you don't expect to be rushed through it. And you never actually want to complain, because you're out to have a good time, and the need for complaint tarnishes the experience.

The style of food in this restaurant is subject to an aquired taste. The service was excellent but the manager having an argument with a member of staff in front of the customers was out of order.

Found the restaurant just using the Open Table search and was looking for a low-key spot for dinner with a business colleague after a couple of days of important meetings. To our surprise we got the relaxing low-key friendly service experience we were looking for, but also got terrific food way better and more interesting than one would possibly expect. I was initially a bit dismissive of the "cooking on the stone" at the table thing, but it was actually fun and tasty. A reminder to me not to be a stuffed-shirt Manhattanite. Service was friendly, but not intrusive, and the recommendations hit the bullseye. Good job Mr. McGrath!

I had a lovely evening, but the vegetarian options for main course are a bit lacking! I always feel a bit cheated having pasta in a restaurant and I never go out to dinner to eat salad. I'd go back if they improved on that front because there is a nice ambience and good Malbec.

A bit disappointed. There was a draught from the front door.
We all had the lunch special.
There was no cauliflower.
Salted cod was a bit tough.

Salmon was not very substantial. And was in a wooden bowl.
The minced pork pasta was too sweet..
We were then moved from our table to make way for next sitting. We then moved upstairs. And then were told we would have to vacate that table at 7.00
I cant understand how you can turn away business.
We spent a fortune for a not so great experience.
Shame.
