Dublin’s Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath restaurant has a very simple philosophy – the best seasonal ingredients, the simplest of techniques, the most flavour. The real difference at this intriguing restaurant is its truly healthy approach to dining. Though indulgent and mouth-wateringly delicious, Rustic Stone’s menu is based around healthy, life-affirming food, good for the body and good for the soul. McGrath, a Michelin starred chef (at previous venture Mint) and Masterchef presenter but also the man behind the concept and in the kitchen, minimizes the use of sugar and cream, bans the fake and flavourless and produces a menu 90% gluten free, 90% wheat free and 70% dairy free – quite an achievement even before you taste the delectable results of his efforts. The level of detail on the Rustic Stone menu provides everything you need to make an informed dining decision and without busting the bank either.

Staff have serious attitude. We arrived 6 minutes late for our booking, having called the restaurant to tell them we would be slightly late and to check would that be a problem. The maitre d' made a point of looking at her watch before bringing us to our table.

The tables are on top of each other. They have zero vegan options and are unwilling to accommodate. The waiter kindly informed me the menu we were given is the only one.

Long story short, we left after 10 minutes and will not be back. This place really needs to get over itself.

Overall good experience. The quail appetizer had good flavor but was over cooked - dry. Side salad of orange and fennel that came with tuna main was flavorless. Overall food was poorly seasoned to my taste. I am pretty picky so this is a good review.

Steak on stone came out well done, full of grizzle and without the sauce mentioned on the menu. White wine was warm. Service was very good though and a member of my part was offered a free dessert.
Bill was also incorrect.

I was disappointed with the choice on the menu, I had a taste.ie voucher and was only able to choose from a particular menu that had limited vegetarian and pescatarian choice. Pasta as the only veggie choice, I don’t come out to eat pasta, I can make that at home. One of my favourite side dishes (pea purée with broad beans and peas) was extremely salty. The room was extremely smoky due to the hot stone prawn dishes, but there was no ventilation to get rid of the smoke. Overall a disappointing experience this time

The food was good, not exceptional. I cannot think of any justification for charging €4.25 for a cappuccino and €3.50 for an Americano. Not even a little chocolate to soften the blow!

Had a wonderful tasty and healthy meal here. The food was warming, rich in flavour and nourishment and I felt great after it. The staff were fantastic and very accommodating of my coeliac status. The atmosphere was lovely. I had wine by the glass and it was superb.

First off the food was excellent - really good. We ate downstairs which was very noisy and too hot for comfort. Lady server was extremely good but the bottle of wine we ordered finally arrived after some follow up requests when my food was 80% finished. She was extremely apologetic but it was a bit embarrassing as I had chosen he restaurant for 2 work colleagues from the UK and Denmark.

That was my second time eating there and despite the above comments I would go back again.

We celebrated the wifes birthday here for an out of the ordinary dining experience.
We got exactly what we hoped for.
Food quality was 5 star...service was 5 star..ambience was great...value was good.
We never felt rushed and were treated to a birthday pastry for the wife.
Expect us back if we return to Dublin.

We were a party of 6, including one child. Great table for our meal when we arrived, loads of space and really comfortable. All the staff are really friendly and smiling. We chose some really tasty foods from the menu and because everyone loved what they got it turned into a sharing table for the starters. The tahini with the bread and the chicken wings were amazing. When it came to the main, no one wanted to share what they had, as they all were enjoying their own. My 5 year old was accommodated too, which is a big thing for me personally. Everyone left with satisfied bellies and a happy feeling. The only thing I could see someone having a problem is with is the speed of the service, but to be honest if you are looking to hurry through your meal, then I advise McD’s. When the food is this good, you wait a bit. Also my dad left behind his umbrella which they kindly kept it and he picked up from them the next day.

Food was great, drinks took a while to come out as they were "trying to find" the wine I chose from the menu. I had listed my wife's birthday as the occasion on the booking. This was never acknowledged by the staff despite things being brought out for other birthdays.

Very unique restaurant where you cook your own food to taste on a hot stone, as noted in the restaurant’s name. We prepared both fish and meat. Both were of excellent quality and delicious. Yes, the restaurant is rustic as well.

Food was good although portions small (5 chips in a portion) just a shame we had to wait so long for our table (despite booking) and were almost sat on top of the couples either side as tables so close. Service slow and no communication between servers not exactly what we expected given the price

Whilst the food was excellent, there was no flexibility. Could not change polenta chips for potato chips??.Also i think a side should be included with the main courses, as €32 is expensive enough for a main course. As it was a Birthday there was suppose to be candle in desert which did not happen, but not that important.
All in all the restaurant is lovely with excellent food and ambience but those few little things were disappointing.

The cooking your own meat thing is a bit of a faff, but the flavours in my beef were amazing. Shared antipasto starter was overpriced, and not especially impressive. Waiter seemed to have way too much to do.

Food was outstanding, however the same cannot he said for the service. Although the waiting staff were very nice, the entire evening felt rushed and frantic. My partner ordered a steak ‘on the stone’, the close f cooking instructions were not explained to him until he had started eating it. I noticed that the ladies beside us had done the same. We were approached a number of times with incorrect dishes and waiters unsure as to whether we had ordered them or not. When we were paying the bill the waitress was expressing her frustration as a table of ten people arrived as she felt it was too late. Overall the experience over shadowed the outstanding food and I would be relevant to return.

Fantastic quality ingredients combined to make the most wonderful dishes. Cooking on your own hot stone is a bit of a gimmick, but it's a bit of fun too. Wine list doesn't have any lower cost options, but the wines are very good. Overall an excellent restaurant.

Wonderful ingredients cooked delicately to enhance their natural flavours and compliment textures. Just had tuna streak and Grey Goose. Have difficulty with carbohydrates so a side salad of simple rocket with olive, sun-dried tomato would've be nice along with the tuna side of chicory I think.

Time and again we have visited Rustic Stone and it never fails to impress whomever we bring with us. If you’re looking for freshness and flavour, this is the best in Dublin. After each meal there, we’re always shocked by how reasonable the bill is - with what you’re getting between your starter, main, sides, dessert and drinks, you’d be paying double anywhere else. Always a treat.
