Dublin’s Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath restaurant has a very simple philosophy – the best seasonal ingredients, the simplest of techniques, the most flavour. The real difference at this intriguing restaurant is its truly healthy approach to dining. Though indulgent and mouth-wateringly delicious, Rustic Stone’s menu is based around healthy, life-affirming food, good for the body and good for the soul. McGrath, a Michelin starred chef (at previous venture Mint) and Masterchef presenter but also the man behind the concept and in the kitchen, minimizes the use of sugar and cream, bans the fake and flavourless and produces a menu 90% gluten free, 90% wheat free and 70% dairy free – quite an achievement even before you taste the delectable results of his efforts. The level of detail on the Rustic Stone menu provides everything you need to make an informed dining decision and without busting the bank either.

Rustic Stone by Dylan McGrath Ratings and Reviews
- Delicious starters - chicken wings plus Bread & Dips
- Tasty cuts of meat for Main but maybe one too many sauces?
- Service a bit unorganised...asked 4 times if we wanted water for table at beginning by 4 different members of staff
The service was poor and the downstairs where we were seated was very smokey and poorly ventilated. The food was okay but not great with two notable exceptions; the chicken wings and the fried cauliflower were both good. I will say that the bathrooms were insanely clean thanks to the hard working lady in there.
Excellent service. Great food, and an amazing bar with accommodating waiters. It does get crowded and little intimate with fellow diners-for dinner. Despite that, it was an experience to be shared made especially fun with hot stones to cook your cuts on.
Restaurants was fantastic. One of the best we have been to, with a wode ranging large menu. Would go again in a second if back in Dublin.
The food was good overall but I would question the value for money. I had opted for the sirloin on the stone as it is supposed to be their specialty. However, by the time the meat arrived at the table, the meat was nearly well done, defeating the purpose of using the hot stone. It would have been better to have the meat on the side of the stone sliced and then you cook it yourself.
We also had the truffle chips, polenta ones and the pesto ones - all good and decadent!
The children enjoyed their meal (great to have the options for full or half portions of the starters for them). The waiter didn't know what a "shirley temple" was (7up with a dash of grenadine) and it seemed very complicated to get something close to it!
The ambiance was good.
Steak was almost cooked through before it came to me and I prefer it medium rare.
Food was brilliant however.
Also the smell from all the cooking in the restaurant results in your clothes smelling like you were in a kitchen for the night but that’s what you sign up for I guess
We ate there on Friday lunch time, a little busy with only one server, a manager & a runner working.
We had looked up the menu online and were really interested in trying the Rustic raw menu, had even picked what we wanted.
When we got the menu, we weren’t presented with the raw menu so I asked the server. We were informed that the raw menu had been taken off over a year and a half ago. I informed the server that it was still on the website and he apologised!
So, after that the food was a disappointment. Ordered the burger, which is impossible to eat, have to deconstruct it and eat in sections, the salmon tempura was under seasoned & not very hot. Ordered a couple of sides, roasted cauliflower which was tasty, the bean salad with was very salty.
Had an excellent Portuguese red and a macchiato.
Don’t think we’ll be back to rustic stone. Think we’ll stick to fade street.
The reason I booked was due to their early bird menu but wasn't given it. I had to specifically ask for it after being given the regular one which set a bad tone. The place was empty when we arrived so when the table we were given was extremely wobbly we just moved up one table. As I was on a long couch I placed my bag beside me. The waiter came over and asked to take my bag as it would be "in the way of other diners" again there was nobody near me at all. I explained I would move it if anyone wished to sit on the couch. Requested coffee instead of desert 4 times, coffee never arrived. Upon leaving were given the wrong coats. When I went downstairs to use the bathroom I was sang at by the chef trying to get my attention/flirt,highly inappropriate and then when I was going back up the stairs he was sitting looking at me as I went past, very uncomfortable. The toilets were not the nicest.
Staff were attentive & very pleasant, but I had to wear my coat inside because I was freezing (it was a very cold day). We had a hamburger & glamburger, the quality of the beef was poor & barely seasoned, almost tasteless (I didn't finish mine). The truffle mayo chunky chips were nice (paid extra for them) but there were only 4 polenta chips with the hamburger, rather miserly. Disappointing on the whole.
The food & ambiance is pure class.....Great atmosphere.
The service on the other had is outstanding, the manager working last Saturday could not have impressed us anymore.
I will most certainly be back & will definitely be recommending it.
The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. The food was amazing as always. Thank you so much!
One of the best restaurants in Dublin! Very creative dishes and cocktails, unique serving presentations (e.g. hot stone to cook your meat), attentive staff, as well as a great atmosphere and energy. Cannot recommend Rustic Stone highly enough.
Delicious rich food. In depth menu with great amount of detail in the descriptions of the dishes. Large dinner portions. Reasonable price compared to restaurants of this caliber. And the stone is a unique and useful solution to have steaks cooked your way. Seriously recommend.
Disappointing menu. Pasta dishes were luke warm at best. Venue very smokey due to cooking at other guests tables. Spillages by waiter on the table were not cleaned. Had high expectations from looking at reviews but would not return
The food was great, the service however was very poor. We order some starters that we never got and the service was very slow. At the end they offered us some free coffee and we ordered 3 but they brought 4, just one more mistake to add to the list.
First visit , disappointed to be honest the entire meal lasted 55 minutes and that was with a bottle of wine ! Service was good but way too quick , starter of salmon didn’t taste very nice and presentation was very poor and unattractive. The steaks were good but the orders were small and poor value . Overall the entire meal was very over priced for what it was and how rushed it was had a similar meal in Wilde in the Westbury the previous week for the same price .
Food is very nice but winelist is expeensive. The assistant manager, Mark, is a big loss as he brought a most pleasant and personable touch to dining the restaurant experience.
Really enjoyed our meal, from the bread to the mains to the dessert, it was all fantastic with so many flavours!
We sat downstairs which I would recommend if you are having a get together as it is less noisey but yet still full of atmosphere and comfort.
There were very few options for vegetarian and the one I chose was not very imaginative. It is old fashioned to serve bit of veggies with cream and pasta. My husband ordered meat, but were dissapointed that he needed to cook it himself. I think that you come to restaurant also to get service and professional cooking. I don't see the point that we amateurs cook our own dinner in restaurant.
Loved our Saturday brunch at Rustic. Fantastic cocktails 🍹 great wine and fabulous food see you again soon 👍
Went there for a friend’s birthday and it was great. All ordered the steak on the stone for mains and it was so tasty. Lollipop prawns were a winner too. Will definitely go back when we return to Dublin!
The food was very good and the staff very friendly and helpful. However, the meals are slightly overpriced for the quantity of food you get. People seating next to us were negatively surprised as well when they saw their dinner plates arriving...
They staff is very friendly but not very reactive - waiting times after ordering water or a glass of wine were quite long.
I would give it a second chance, though if they take these things into consideration.
Fantastic food and venue. Excellent spot for a date night. The only small thing that might not be for everyone is the fact that it got a little smokey in the room with all the meats being cooked on stones on surrounding tables. Will certainly go back again.
Very nice, busy city restaurant with an atmosphere to match. Service and staff were very good. Food was very good. But a bit cold when it arrived. Busy place, you need to book in advance
