Five stars. Bar Crudo is now one of our favorite seafood spots, and we’ll definitely be back. The seafood platter was a highlight, with oysters, uni oysters, Gulf shrimp, Alaskan halibut crudo, and herb and jalapeño marinated mussels. The mussels were the standout—worth returning for alone. The seafood chowder was delicious and different from other chowders we’ve tried. The dark, softly lit atmosphere, real unscented candles, and mermaid artwork made it a cozy setting for dinner. The tables were nicely spaced apart, although the tabletop could have used more room for everything we ordered. There’s also a bar, but we didn’t try any alcoholic drinks this visit. Several items were sold out that evening, including all the crudo except Alaskan halibut, the shishito peppers, yellowfin tuna tostada, and Acme bread. Regular bread was available instead. Despite that, everything we tried made us want to return and explore more of the menu. Highly recommend the seafood platter, marinated mussels, and seafood chowder. Looking forward to coming back for the crudo.

This place is a standard "go to" if we are in the inner Sunset. Reliably good food and drinks. Some of the dishes and cocktails are on the pricey side, but there's still dishes and beers which are reasonably priced.

Seafood
Civic Center / Hayes Valley / Van Ness
About the restaurant
Hayes Street Grill is a neo-traditional fish house in San Francisco's Civic Center district, across the street from the Performing Arts Center, opposite Davies Symphony Hall and a block from both the Opera House and City Hall. We use an international mix of recipes, unified with a theme of fish and seafood. Above every other consideration, we want the freshness and pristine quality of the fish, produce, and naturally-raised meats to speak for themselves.

The Hayes Street Grill's walls are covered with autographed photos of the artists who consider the restaurant their club. Though we've remodeled since our opening 47 years ago, the original brass coat hooks along the walls remain, as does our founding philosophy of cooking only the food we would serve at home to our families, albeit dressed up a little, with a religious dedication to wholesomeness.

We made reservations but chose to sit at the bar. The bartender, Sherman was the best. We loved his energy, making drinks, etc in a hustle bustle pre-show evening. The bar was comfortable- food was timely and we had room for dessert. Great evening with Hayes St Grill!

Fabulous meal guided by friendly and knowledgeable server. Had the oysters on the 1/2 shell, bread, and the whole roasted fish. Each dish was fresh and delicious with special touches in well balanced sauces that highlighted the dish.
