Wonderful evening! We had pretheatre menu which was great value, excellent food! Specilal thanks to sommelier for recommendation!
I booked Social Eating House for the birthday of my boyfriend. We visited London and I was eager to find an upper yet not stiff restaurant. As we are real foodies and like to eat in a variety of ways from street food to fine dining, we go with adjusted expectations wherever we eat out.
Food: first of all the food was excellent especially the vegan menu
Service. I had a broken glass of wind standing in front of me, it had a huge whole that no one could ever not notice when placing it. However I got a new one when the wine came which we had to remind the waiter (were served by 3 different ones-not used to such practice in a Michelin star restaurant). Also they did forget which wine we ordered. After the starter we had to wait for ages on the main course which we had to remind the server again. All in all the service did not pay attention at all, did not look at us the whole evening, didn‘t react to signs of attention seeking and was totally swamped.
Last but not least I mentioned that it‘s my partner‘s birthday and they did not mention it at all nor did they organize a nice table.
Atmosphere: the restaurant itself looks nice, well furnished and cool interior. However the people next to us (a group of 6-8 men) was behaving as if they were sitting in a pub having the 15th round of beer. They were super loud and rude. No one of the waiter did anything about it although the whole other guest were annoyed.
All in all I wouldn‘t go again but just for the service not for the food
We sat in our tables and we ordered the drinks and 2 stakes and a ceviche . After about 15 minutes the waiter came and told us that the stakes have finished . We didn’t like anything else and we left after paying the drinks .
Not the best experience moreover for. Restaurant like this.
whilst the food was good, service was terrible. We spent ages waiting to order, ages waiting our drinks.
In addition there was an extremely loud and drunk table who looked like they finished eating at lunchtime and were still drinking at dinner. The table was right next to ours and the staff continued to give them shots and alcohol. It got so bad most of the remaining tables around us either left or moved table.
Not what I would expect in such a high end restaurant . A good Manager would of either asked the offending table to move to the bar or explained that they were disturbing other guests and needed to leave
It was interesting to experience British Fine Dining and to find good quality bread and a drinkable espresso in London. The rest of the evening wasn't revealing any notable sensation or experience, sadly. The Scallops in starters were killed by the face-slapping acidity, main courses were good in taste but didn't offer any brilliant side and the cheesecake in the desert was straight up disappointing. We liked the more classy compositions in the chocolate cake and the milktarte, but I didn't understand the idea of the cheesecake, neither refreshing with a balanced lactic component nor cheesy with slight fruit. Just tasted sour to me, which was tried by adding a lot of sugar in sauce, filling and crust to the plate.
Service was a little bit to cautious in my opinion, as we had to ask for new bread and haven't been explained about the wine.
The 2014 Skylark Orsi Vineyard Pinot Blanc was far over the point and isn't a wine that should be cellared so long. The nose was very minimal, on the palate there was only acidity left, fruit nearly completely gone and through its fermentation and aging in stainless steel it doesn't offer any walnut notes. Really don't understand why the sommelier offers such an overaged young-to-drink wine and when ordered doesn't even say that it might be too old to still be enjoyed. Taking 80£ for that experience is incomprehensible to me.
Maybe I am too pampered from French, Italian and German Haute Cuisine and Fine Dining, but overall Social Eating House is not an experience I would recommend after what I was undergoing through the evening.
We had the January pre theatre menu. Loads to choose from beautifully presented. And weren’t left hungry after two courses!
The table was 50 minutes late, and we waited forever to be served. Food was good. You’d better take more care of you customers.
Absolutely stunning menu, fantastic food and great service!
I would recommend the restaurant, however the service wasn’t up to standards. I felt like we were forgotten about and wasn’t attentive in the slightest. We ordered a bottle of wine when we sat down and our starters came out first before we even had a drink.
We had to pour our own wine, which isn’t something I’m overly bothered about but if you’re classing yourself as a Michelin star restaurant then this isn’t something we should be doing.
We did bring this to the managers attention at the end and he did kindly knock the service charge off the bill but of course this is all feed back and hopefully my comments are taken on board as the food was amazing.
Great menu - spoiled with choices! Amazing food and great service. Nice decor and not too fancy for a Michelin starred restaurant!
The pre fixe menu was outstanding value and we couldn’t fault the service. My only critique would be that the vegetarian option of macaroni cheese was over seasoned. Everything else was outstanding especially the beetroot starter. We will be returning to try the a la carte menu.
Great evening in a great restaurant with great food - what more could one ask for. Only quibble would be slow service of first course, had to ask if they would arrive soon !
I was recommended Social Eating House and I was not disappointed. My husband received an award so I wanted to take him out for lunch that was an experience without breaking the bank. On arrival we were greeted with a smile and shown to our table. The restaurant was semi full which was lovely as it had enough atmosphere without the excessive noise! The waiting staff were amazing, cannot fault the service at all. The food was second to none, it was beautifully presented and tasted sublime. We sampled some cocktails from The Blind Pig, all were incredible and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. Thank you all for a fabulous experience, you made our day!
The staff seemed rather disinterested. The flashing light under the bar was just distracting and looked as though it needed correcting. The food was good but the main was incredibly salty and overpowering with garlic (and no mention of this on the menu); dessert was 'treacle and almond tart' but not quite as we all expected. We ventured upstairs for an after-dinner cocktail and we felt there was a off-putting drain smell...really quite obvious and I asked a colleague who had been there the weekend before and he had agreed! Most odd. Seems as though the restaurant has lost it's appeal somewhat. A shame.
A lovely bar and restaurant with great food and cocktails. Service was impeccable and a number of really thoughtful touches during a birthday celebration. Will definitely be back soon!
Food was great, service was appalling. Took ages to get menus when seated, wrong drink delivered, slow service especially for two raw starters! Tried to take away my unfinished drink and then just poured gravy on my food without asking.
Asked for a single shot drink, they came back and told me only serviced in these measures. It’s only because I explained I’m breastfeeding a young baby they flexed their normal measure - this itself is unacceptable and irresponsible to force people to drink in double measure, when they’ve explicitly asked for a single - shocking policy.
Food was good but service let it down, especially when we saw the price, the whole experience for two was not worth over £170!
Fantastic inventive food as always. Service is attentive and friendly. Buzzing atmosphere in the restaurant.
Very inventive menu that was extremely well prepared. Its a bit hidden but well worth stopping in especially for the prix fix menu.
Was such a lovely visit- a birthday meal to remember. The food was absolutely gorgeous, the quality was amazing as was the presentation. The service was 5*, and the space was very clean and tidy. Overall would recommend to anybody to try and experience.
Great food and service
A bit noisy but some people like that
Such an awesome experience! Attentive, thoughtful staff, and an outstanding menu. Only item of note is that at capacity, the noise level does rise.
Surprised by the Michelin star. Dined on a Tuesday lunchtime - perfectly ok but the services far from warm/friendly or particularly efficient to make up for it. The food was pretty but my beetroot was undercooked and my pork tough.
It is also worth noting that from a value perspective the bottle of water we had was £9 - I can't see how this can be justified.
Wonderful Birthday Lunch!
Nice rustic atmosphere. Courteous and knowledgeable staff. The food, of course, was outstanding. I recommended this place to 5 different people while I was still dining, so definitely worth a visit.
The food was excellent and could not be faulted. However, we arrived on time for our table and were told it wasn’t ready. We were then instructed to stand in the blind pig corridor to wait for our table. No offer of a seat at the bar or a drinks order, just left to stand in the corridor.
We were then put in a booth next to the front door. With the door open almost constantly, and the curtain not closed the cold air from outside meant we ended up needing our coats to stay warm. This was noticed and the situation rectified after about 25 minutes.
As mentioned previously the food was exquisite and it was the best steak I’ve ever eaten. The other members of the party were equally impressed with the food. However there was a lack of coherence with our drinks. Our wine ordered to come with the mains arrived before our starters, we requested sparkling water and got still and finally when the waiter was topping up our wine he leant over both male guests whilst we were eating with no apology to the fact and then proceeded to spill wine twice whilst pouring.
I’m not saying it wasn’t an enjoyable evening as the food along with my guests made it a special evening, but the service and attention to detail of an establishment I’d normally expect with a Michelin star was lacking.
Lovely experience! Everything we ate was divine. Would definitely recommend to others. Only area for development - fix the WIFI
Went to Social Eating for my girlfriends birthday, the service was fantastic and they even went as far as to give my girlfriend a birthday cake and a card which was a lovely touch. I couldn’t fault anything at all we had the £38pp set meal which was good value maybe a bottle of wine instead of a carafe would have been better but all in all a great dining experience
wonderful lunch to celebrate my birthday with family
It was not a Michelin star restaurant level the food was ok and very expensive for what you get and the service was slow
It was the most unorganised dining experience I have ever encountered. I have been to the restaurant many times, and this night let it down massively. I was seated for 1 hour and 15 minutes before I was given some bread and butter, which I had to ask for. My first course took over an hour and 30 minutes. Which was a cold dish, I was told the delay was due to preparation of the meals. I missed my New Years party plans due to how long the food took to come. I was given a discount and apology, however I was let down by the restaurant as I booked it for my guest on my word of how good the food and service has been on my past trips.
We booked the set menu for NYE dinner. The food itself was brilliant and well worth the £310 bill for the two of us. The service however let the entire night down. We had a 6pm table booked and were directed up to the bar. When at the bar we were asked to take a seat and the gentleman noted we were eating downstairs when greeting us. We waited, ordered a drink and then I noticed I had a missed call from the restaurant at 6.15pm (nobody had notified the restaurant downstairs that we had arrived).
Anyway, despite a sloppy start everything in the middle was great... that was until we were rushed off the table back up to the bar for the last course of coffee and chocolate (remembering we were late to the table due to the hiccup that wasn’t our fault at the start). We then arrived back at the bar and nobody knew that we were still due the last course, we had to ask for the coffee and no chocolates arrived.... not exactly Michelin star price and service?
We didn’t mention the chocolate or the issue as we noticed lots of grumbling customers in the bar who were waiting to be seated for the restaurant.
A nice experience... but won’t be back in rush due to the service. Shame for the chefs!
Exceptional service. Attentive, thoughtful staff. Made to feel comfortable and relaxed. Food and drink excellent. Decorated modern and cool, fantastic space.
