Celebrating the finest of indigenous British produce and making the most of what is seasonally best whilst applying straight forward cooking techniques, St. John is now celebrated as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and in 2009 was awarded its first Michelin Star.
Nose to tail eating means that, where appropriate, every part of the animal should be put to good use in the kitchen and so along with Roast Beef and Lemon Sole, diners will find Rolled Pig’s Spleen, Kidneys and Ox Heart, Liver and Chitterlings as well as the Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad, something of a ‘signature’ dish.
Whilst often cited as not a restaurant to take a vegetarian to, the kitchen source and prepare dishes for vegetarians with the same amount of studiousness as they do the meat, fish and poultry and desserts.
Exceptional food, as always, with an extremely varied & exciting menu.
Food was amazing as always and the service was excellent. We will definitely come back!
Everything was perfect! Food was outstanding and Karolina was wonderful. Had such a lovely experience
It gives the impression of effortless heartwarming cuisine, but this level of deliciousness comes from a kitchen who seriously know what good food is about. I cannot recommend St John more highly!
Pretty slow service. Table for two was too small for us to easily have our plates on the table without something hanging off the edge. Super obnoxious and loud table of drunk Britons next to us and staff unwilling to ask them to be respectful. Food was good but in light of the other issues overall a very disappointing experience at a restaurant we'd long been excited to try. Do better!
A wonderful dining experience in every way. Cannot wait to return.
Very typical! We loved the quiet atmosphere and the delicious food! Staff are really nice. An great experience.
A true classic wonderful dining experience, would truly recommend to anyone
Overall, the food, the place was no frills, in your face type of flavors and utterly delicious. The only complain I would have is the acoustics of the place especially when it's full, it is really hard to communicate with your guests because the whole place is a bit loud because of the different sounds coming from the other tables
Main meal Pork was wonderful
I would like to suggest if starters are include pork it would be perfect as the book spirit nose to tail
Cracking supper for "Date Night" great food, fantastic service - unfortunately the was a chap who had druck way to much but they soon moved him to the bar! Thank you
Superv food and service as always
Overall, as always very good, slight delay waiting for dessert but nothing to grumble over.
We remember coming to this restaurant 10 years ago on a trip to London and sought it out. Dialing it in doesn’t begin to describe the indifference to diners experience. My husband ordered the breeze dark style. It was completely black and cooked to neoprene. Even picking up the phone annoying on it was impossible: it was a single inedible object. Everything was tired including the scuffed kitchen door. Sad
The food was poor. My bone marrows were overbaked so that the ends were charred. There was little marrow in them as it had dried to nothing. Very poor value and not as good as I have eaten before. The beetroot salad was indifferent.
The menu was totally different to one on their website for that day. One main dish was not available (sold out?) and braised hare was substituted for saddle. The hare was served in a very gloopy over thickened sauce. Again it was indifferent.
Overall, a very unenjoyable experience. Never again!!
Not to be missed! This place is a London institution for diners (and chefs) and a huge favourite of a couple of close friends of mine. And for good reason: delicious traditional English dishes served by friendly staff dressed in white to match the light filled dining room full of happy, buzzing customers. Our party of six had much of the what was on the menu on this day: a salad of ox heart and radishes, halibut and chips, marrow from the bone with toasted fresh baked bread, braised hare, ox liver, and others. Knowledgeable staff and the selection of great wines as well as beer and spirits ... you cannot go wrong here.
Excellent service. Enjoyed everything. Great atmosphere
A warm thank you to the St John team. Even though they were not able to fulfill the request I made when booking, I appreciate their referring to it when we got to the restaurant. Everything was as I remember from dining there 5 years ago, and I was glad to share the experience with my partner, for whom it was his first time there.g
A return after too long (maybe 10 years...) but the simplicity of the dishes and the punch of the flavours, combined with the low-key ambience are still deliciously there.
Food and ambience are outstanding. Always buzzing. Knowledgeable staff. My favourite restaurant.
Interesting food - the cods roe was over salted and the bone marrow was a whole construction of its own. The Lamb’s offal was delicious but was accompanied by two boiled carrots and some overcooked spinach, the hake was fantastic. But there’s a big difference between pretentious presentation and a school dinner, and unfortunately every plate of food looked like the latter.
The trifle was terrible, the cake was not ‘booze soaked’, it was incredibly chewy and there was a whole prune just shoved in the bottom with no dressing, preparation - nothing.
I understand the concept of stripped back British food, but you can’t ask for the price you are asking for and serve sub standard food.
Atmos was great, the loos were very smelly and seemed dirty. Staff were perfectly friendly and knowledgable about the food but weren’t really bothered by any extra interaction. Wouldn’t rush back.
The brown crab meat on toast was the highlight for me. A wonderful dining experience
Amazing special Restaurant, where you feel 200 years back.
Food which I looked for a long long time.
Food wonderful as we've experienced in the past. Such a shame that a rude waitress dampened the special occasion, service has always been amazing at St John's si was disappointed to have a sarcastic waitress who was rude to my mum, left deserts on the side to go cold and forgot coffees. However we didnt let a rude waitress spoil our lu ch and still reat enjoyed the food.
St John never disappoints: excellent food combined with great service and delicious wine
We enjoyed everything we ordered, the pigeon was excellent as was the marrow with parsley salad.
So was the chocolate pie.
I would recommend ST John.
Very friendly staff and good meat!
Always a treat getting to St John for lunch. Food, wine and service was phenomenal, especially the mutton and aioli special
Great food and service as usual at St John, one of a handful of my favourite restaurants in England. Will be back!
Service was pretty slow and not all that attentive. Key example was that our drink order was forgotten about, and our waiter retook the drink order after we waited for 15 minutes. Then it took another 10 minutes to get our two drinks. Nothing was done to accommodate this (a free round, etc). Food was good, but not exceptional.
A fantastic experience in every way. Would return in a moment.
Great food, prompt and friendly service good wine, great atmosphere. The bone marrow was one of the nicest dishes I've ever eaten, the white tongue was tender and tasty. The atmosphere was lively without bring too loud, an all in all great meal.
Great restaurant. The food and the service were incredible; I'm coming back for the bone marrow starter alone!
Spectacular dinner with excellent service. Everything I want in a restaurant. Unique offerings, well prepared food and great service. A standout from this trip to the UK.
a singular experience
We enjoyed opening our minds and palettes to something a little different at St John. Each dish was rich in flavor from the luxurious bone marrow spread on toast to the simple green salad whose components each burst with their own flavor.
Delicious and excellent service. Cannot fault anything!
Some of the dishes were great but others were a bit overcooked. Their collection of wines were fantastic.
We came for Valentine’s Day dinner, spent 65£ for two appetizer, 1 main and 2 glasses of wine. The value was amazing!
It’s the best food I have had in England, must go!
The food, the service and the space were amazing. Can't wait to come here again
