St Margarets Tavern
Our menu is based on freshly prepared, seasonal British dishes and is complimented by a comprehensive list of fine wines and a wide range of cask ales.
We have a 75 cover dining room and are open for Lunch & Dinner seven days a week.
Overbooked for Mothers Day.
We were pointed to a table that was in front of the kitchen and serving area which was not made up and had chairs missing.
Staff did not have a clear idea of GLUTEN FREE options, palmed us off saying we had to look at an app which did not work.
We had to leave before ordering any food as they told us they could not cater for coeliac disease, and offer any gluten free options.
I wrote a review on trip advisor. Poor service lack of attention and cold food. Not value for money at all.
Sadly although the Tavern is our local we won’t be returning for food. We have given it numerous chances but the quality of food served for the price charged is mediocre at best. We visited on Mother’s Day (should have realised when the only reservations I could get was here) the staff are lovely & very attentive. But sadly the food quality just isn’t up the standard of other pubs in the area. Our roast dinners were edible but meat was stringy, & roast potatoes were disappointing. The double burger was no better than a frozen party you’d get on a kebab shop. Nothing homemade about it. We were with parents who wouldn’t let us mrention anything - as they quite rightly said the staff were great. This is not the first time in the last year we have been disappointed with the food offering but we keep giving it a chance. The Tavern used to be outstanding for food. As my we said it’s now a drink only pub.
Visited twice, first time everything was excellent, the food and the service. So I booked again and took along family that had travelled from Cardiff. Unfortunately we waited over an hour for our lunch and the food was not hot. It has put me off going as a group.
Food was lovely, although my fries came a bit later. Family friendly, loads of kids were running around.
The restaurant setting was nice enough and away from the main noise of the bar, staff and service was good, but the food was pretty standard to poor. My friend and I both ordered the bowls as on a health regime right now - my friends dish was supposed to have brown rice, and it came with noodles and hardly any brown rice - she is gluten intolerant. I had the chickpea veggie bowl - the chick peas were dry and tasted awful and the rest of the bowl was no better. Definately not worth the price. Am sure traditional pub food would be ok, but not the items on the menu which is trying to be healthy and alternative. I don't think I would go again for food.
Excellent service and full of young local families with babies on the Sunday we went. Food runs out quickly - both mains and puddings- even by 2pm which is not a usual time to hit the pubs for a Sunday roast.
Much better food than before
I love St Margaret's Tavern, the food is amazing and at very reasonable prices, the staff are lovely and the wine selection varied. I had THE tastiest roast dinner on Sunday, the roasted porchetta, which was to die for!
The food was actually ok/ quite good and the waitresses we fairly attentive. But we were pretty much the only ones dining at 7.30 on a Saturday night. Ok it’s late Jan which isn’t the best time but other places are fully booked. Consequently the atmosphere was pretty dire. The restaurant area is quite dull and non exciting too which doesn’t help. I know a fair amount of money has just been spent doing the place up but there is still a yawning gap between this place and others in the area. And it tells from the amount of folks using it. Such a big opportunity missed.
Really lovely food! Four of us booked for Sunday lunch , they only had one chicken option left but others opted for a different choice of meat which was fine. Service was great, very professional. Lovely chilled atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend.
Decent meal, but a little surprised that on a rugby days certain courses (like burgers) sold out very quickly.
We were a large group with lots of kids. Great seating and service.
Brilliant friendly service and a lovely ambience ..
Vegetarian options were poor. same ingredients in vegetarian starter as in vegetarian main of which there was only one choice. The vegan option had run out. The starter turned up with earth still on the crudities. and the bread was stale. The main course took an hour to come and when it did arrive it was cold. The pub ran out of prosecco and the only alternative cava was £5 more expensive. How a pub can runout of prosecco at Christmas is mad. However, the manager was very polite and generous in our compensation and was working under difficult circumstances.
The food was really nice. The service was very very poor at the start of our meal.
We had to wait like lemons whilst 5 staff milled around the serving area to be seated. They saw us standing there clearly waiting to be taken to a table as we had made a booking and not one of them came to us. I had to go over and collar one of them in the end.
The same thing happened for the next 15 minutes after they sat us down. We tried several times to get eye contact to make a drinks order whilst they all were stood at the kitchen entrance.
I could forgive waiting this long maybe if they were busy but it wasn’t at all.
It’s a shame as the food is very nice. Train up the staff and put someone in charge.
After we ordered the staff were attentive and polite. We were forgotten about basically after we were sat down.
We waited an hour for our food which was not worth the wait. The portions were small and burgers were overcooked. Great pub for pre or post rugby drinks but would not recommend the food.
Disappointing. Food was below standard for the price charged. The experience was also spoiled by a family who failed to keep their children under control which ended in a broken glass. So noisy we could hardly hear ourselves speak.
Chilled & charming - really great service, friendly and informed, and willing to offer just that little bit more. On a very hot day, they offered to fill my friend's water bottle with crushed ice, without being asked.
Visited to watch the England v. Croatia World Cup match. The place was "packed"! Lots of fans, beers and bar food. Great atmosphere and service was great despite the hundreds of patrons! Good neighborhood place.
Food is not recommended but service did a great job to make evening enjoyable
Four male members of my family spent the day at the Twickenham Rugby Sevens. I had booked a table and there was plenty of room on this occasion. Because of the beautiful weather, we decided to eat outside.
The drawback is that smokers go outside and it is not pleasant to have somebody's smoke wafting across if one does not a smoke.
The pluses are the well presented and tasty food along with a good clean pint of beer. Staff were helpful and friendly, giving the usual check back to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction.
I thoroughly recommend the pub but advise making sure either there are no smokers or dine inside.
Met with friends, like the option to eat outside if required. Love the food and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this place to eat
Bit of a dry atmosphere, and disappointing overall, which is a shame as we used to enjoy going there for some pub food on Sunday’s. Doesn’t feel as though anyone there is in charge. After we’d finished eating, our dirty plates were left on the table for the duration, an hour later, and when we got up to leave still no none had picked them up.
Gastro pricing, happy eater quality. Should have sent it back but there was nothing actually ‘wrong’ with it... it was just a bit c*ap
Food and service were very good! Had a beef burger and it was piping hot and delicious! Server was very attentive and efficient. Like sitting better in the front of the establishment; rather than the back. Better view to the town and activities on the street. Nice place for a good meal and atmosphere.
A lovely mother’s day Sunday roast. Excellent service and good food. Would definitely recommend
The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly.
Service was slow, food was below average and we all had to wear our coats and it was freezing !
Tasty Sunday lunch but portion pretty poor for the price
Sat right next to a small child’s birthday party so very noisy and children uncontrolled.
The food was average, meat was very chewy and inedible, when mentioned to the server she said sorry and nothing else! We were still charged the full amount.
When booking the table on line it asked for any special requests. I asked for a special desert and candle at it was my daughters 24 th birthday. We received nothing. When mentioned to the server she blamed open table and said messages do not come through!!!
Not a very good experience. Rather disappointing!
Hi oilfield nor recommend and would not return.
There is, unfortunately, a reason why this pub is half empty on a Sunday lunchtime. Hugely disappointing food. Even the reduced bill (we did complete) failed to lift the gloom.
Loved the dog friendly atmosphere! This was very important to us and the staff accommodated us beautifully
Handy spot to meet friends after a trip to Turner's house. Food and drink was typical bar food. Staff friendly. The decor was a little run down and could do with a makeover.
Enjoyed a lovely family Sunday Roast here - huge portions! Kids' portions good too.
Very disappointed with the food on Sunday. My tomato salad was loaded with an unpleasant mayonnaise and the roast beef was totally overcooked. Good bread and good Yorkshire Pudding. I think the standards of this pub have dropped in the last few months. They don't serve any kind of cocktails and the children asked for olives - they don't have those either!!
Really nice food! The only thing I would say is that there were a few items on the menu that weren't available on the day - our waitress didnt tell us until we'd tried to order instead of when we were first handed our menus.
Very small thing, otherwise loved it and will be back for sure!
Lovely ambience. Service was outstanding and a wonderful waiting team
The pub is attractive with a very pleasant outside seating area. The food was quite good but perhaps the rather tough parsnips and soggy roast potatoes were a result of coming late for lunch. Could not have first choice as chicken had run out and portions were not overly big. Staff were friendly but service slow. Overall it was good for what we needed somewhere not heaving to eat before a concert at Twickenham.
We went for Father's Day Sunday lunch. Service was excellent, attentive, timely. Food came out quickly -within 20 mins. Our table ordered all three Sunday roast amongst us (chicken, beef and pork). Meat and veg were hot and plentiful. The 1/2 small chicken was roast for 2 - very generous. The 2 roast items to improve: Yorkshire pudding were not warm (so not made on order) and the gravy was a bit too starchy and bland. Otherwise lovely afternoon, great service. We were checked regularly but not too frequently. Desserts are not their strength - cheesecake was frozen enough that the base was still curved. Nice selection of beers and wines. Great place for drinks and family meals. There is lovely decking outside to sit in sunny days.
