What Insiders Are Saying
Highly affordable omakase sushi on the Upper West Side.
Our server was very impatient and rude to us. We tried to ask her questions about the menu choices, but she just insisted that we look at the menu and choose from what’s there. Her English skills were very poor as well. She should not be working in a job where communication is essential for quality customer service. I will never visit this restaurant again.
Wonderful sushi and great value!
One of the best Japanese sushi restaurants in the City.
Great food for a great price
Food was excellent but service was lackluster. It was busy but they had more than enough staff, most of them standing in the corner talking to each other. After they cleared our dinner plates, our waitress just brought our check. She didn't ask if we wanted dessert or anything else.
My favorite sushi restaurant ever
Made reservations for 7 pm but dropped by to see if we could eat earlier. They accommodated us for seating at the bar. However, service took awhile. Our waitress just didn’t pay attention to our needs. Even the hostess whom was checking for seating said something to our waitress. We waited 10 minutes just to get our check. Food was delicious but wasn’t impressed by service.
One of best Japanese in NYC - and I am lucky in that it is close to home!
Amazing quality. Affordable. A+
Great place. Will visit again next trip to NYC. Excellant service.
They changed the printed menus and they are no unreadable. Why ?? Great quality fish but what's going on with the smudged menus covered in smudged plastic? What happened ?
Why do we keep going back to there?
Reservations are absolutely necessary, but if you have one, it's honored, and seating is almost always prompt. The service at Sushi Yasaka is excellent: water glasses continually filled the Usuzukuri appetizer was half the size it used to be; and the miso black cod appetizer was undercooked.
Always top quality fish
Average food but given what you pay, good value. Quite horrible service. Only tie they smile at you is when they bring the check so they get tipped.
Food is excellent. Four of us had sushi, tempura, salmon teriyaki, and udon noodles with veggies. Appetizers were mixed mushrooms, the best hijiki I've tasted in a while, and delicious Age tofu in a broth. Good variety of quality sake in different price ranges. (Wine and beer also available.) Menu is a bit overwhelming at first for a newcomer, and the mimeographed ink had partly transferred to the plastic covering on the pages of the menu I had. Noise level struck me as uncomfortably loud, although the older I get, the more the ambient din of certain venues bothers me. All told, this is definitely a neighborhood gem.
Probably best not to go on a holiday (fish was not that fresh) and not during the 2:15pm seating because they close at 3pm. Waitress was rude and was rushing us to finish the whole time. Even when dishes were finished she did not remove empty dishes for us to make room for the rest of our meal.
Awesome place. Sushi was very fresh. Not your average sushi selections. Service was prompt and courteous. Good sake choices as well. Small place but big on flavors.
The sushi was not fresh and the rolls were falling apart. The restaurant minced a lot of the fish in their rolls, which, in my opinion, is usually done to mask the "ho-hum" quality of the fish being served. It seemed that the rice was not cooked well. I came here because of the 4-star review; however, it left much to be desired. The food is definitely no 4-star worthy.
We ordered two of the Omikase which is chef’s choice and the most expensive thing on the menu so we expected an interesting and varied assortment. The sushi that the waiter brought was nearly identical to what I get at my local deli or Trader Joe’s for around $10 except not as fresh! Tuna roll, salmon etc. It was quite shocking and literally left a bad taste in our mouths. The result is we will never return and looking forward to a REAL Omikase we have had in the past at one of the many great Japanese restaurants NYC has to offer!
Another great meal, the renovations are subtle but make a big difference. We enjoy going here, although its pricey, its worth it.
Had the seaweed salad which had several types of seaweed. It was delicious! Also had the sushi deluxe dinner. The fish was very fresh and tasty. Green tea ice cream for dessert rounded out the meal.
Excellent as always. The best sushi on the UWS by far. Food and service is consistently great.
I hesitate to recommend this place -- because it's already way too hard to get a table. This simple place has some of the best neighborhood sushi in NYC.
Sushi Yasaka shares the most incredible omasake! I wish I could eat here everyday!
Food was fresh as always.
I always enjoy lunch here.
The best Japanese restaurant in upper west nyc.
Always great food and service
My friends and I loved it. They had never been before and were quite happy with everything we ordered and plan to come back.
Does not disappoint, as always.
They sat us about 15 mins after reservation time: a bit long
Too noisy,,made enjoying my meal awful
Best sushi in the price category . Reservation is a must
Good value. But the Lunch Special entree was cold not hot. The fried spring roll within lunch special was cold. The rice was lukewarm. Tastes were okay. Worth a second try but Lunch Special shouldn’t disappoint at $16. Other Lunch Specials from Like restaurants are not serving hot dishes cold.
zthe good is always very good!
This used to be my favorite lunch spot but I probably won’t go anymore. They increased their lunch prices by like 4 dollars and no longer give you a salad and soup. So it’s more for less. It used to be the best. It’s too bad, now it’s more expensive than most sushi lunches and I went out of my way to go there.
With the exception of being seated at the first table to the door, everything was great. Even the location wasn’t so bad!
Meal was a Tuesday dinner at 7:30.
Excellent food but deafening noise level...one of our party actually left the restaurant before finishing meal because of noise level.
Excellent sushi, great service and very reasonably priced. I will be back soon.
great fresh sushi at very reasonable prices and not as “fancy” as other places
The food here is always very fresh and delicious. However, the decor is tired and needs some updating.
Service could be friendlier
