At The Crown, we have set out to create a local hub and community. A country pub that the locals are proud to welcome all.

The Crown serves simple yet perfectly executed traditional pub food and a crowd-pleasing selection of drinks.

Please note:

As summer draws to a close and the Autumn nights draw in, we will be returning to the heart of our historic 16th Century Inn for all reservations from for the winter season.

The garden will be open for drinks weather permitting, and inside the fire will be on. We can’t wait to give you a warm welcome at The Crown.

BY RAIL FROM LONDONThe journey from Paddington station to Maidenhead station is between 40-50 minutes. The Crown at Bray is only a five minute taxi ride from the station and taxis are readily available at the front of the station. We went out for Christmas Eve lunch and having been here many times in the past were expecting a pleasant meal. However we both ended up not eating all the food. We ordered the pheasant which was overcooked and lacked flavour. Whereas my sea bass was basically served on what tasted like a tin of chick peas. Not even crooked properly and bland. Ended up not eating anything and going elsewhere. Not what we had hoped for on Christmas Eve…! In fairness they did not charge for the meals, but then I would have refused to pay in any case. Maybe stick to burgers and chips…! You can’t get that wrong now can you?

Mains fish n chips was xclnt, starter and desert average and overpriced. Marquee was like a camping site tent. We liked the place but 3 star.

Poor service, nice surroundings in the marquee, food average, value for money below average. The pud has a good reputation for obvious reasons but is living on its name not service, value or quality. It says a lot when they can burn the fish in fish& chips!!!

This was, at best, an average meal and I was surprised with how expensive The Crown is. My cod main was very small yet it cost almost £30 and the potato side was also expensive. My daughter had the burger which she said was good. The Eton Mess was described as lime and raspberry but it was mainly cream and completely devoid of lime. The service was excellent but the marquee was lacking in the ambience which which pub itself has. The Crown needs to either reduce their prices or increase their portion sizes. There are much better gastro pubs in the area.

Service was excellent. We were very well taken care of. One small note is that the portion sizes are smaller than when I was last here - which granted is about 2-3 years ago. An example is the haddock in the fish and chips is much thinner than before. While the prices have remained pretty much the same the portions have gone down. I would rather pay more and retain the size and quality than have something which is much less. Please stop shrinking the sizes - just increase the price and keep the quality and quantity the same.

Disappointing- shame this used to be a nice pub. Charging Gastro pub prices but it is not! There are many better competitors in the surrounding villages. Poor Veggie options

Dinner in the marquee was just very festive! Nice and warm with all the new heaters, friendly happy service and very good food. So nice to have the quality and warmth back in our village pub! First of many regular visits I am sure!

Very pricey for not well cooked food. Duck confit so over cooked it was mostly hard meat and the mash was so sticky would have made good wallpaper paste. Atmosphere in the tent is sort of canteen like. Only saving Grace was the service

The wigwam setting is lovely and the staff were really friendly - but the food was pretty poor and expensive. The tabbouleh was weird; more like arborio rice, than bulgar wheat - and the proportion of grain to herb was way off, so it wasn’t fragrant at all; like eating a like warm, dry, risotto. The courgette fritti were not the crisp matchsticks we had hoped for, instead they were basically fat, soft, courgette chips. We ordered five small plates and shared a bottle of wine for £100. Definitely feels like a high premium has been applied, but it’s pretty audacious to assume people are satisfied to pay it because of a name above the door. There are so many better local pubs to eat in, where the food fulfils the basic requirement of resembling what is detailed on the menu and tastes good.

Typically the service is warm and hospitable but on this occasion it was very disappointing. The Crown is the children’s favourite place and burgers and they were not up to the usual standard.

We had a lovely evening at the Crown. The welcome from the lovely bar manager and knowledgeable advice regarding wine was very well received. Lovely service and delicious quality food. Well worth the extra few pounds for a ‘pub’ dinner. Would definitely return.

My son who attends school nearby and I always enjoy our Saturday lunches at this gastro pub. We love the food of course - from delicious classics like hamburgers to seasonal specialities like wild mushroom risotto - but also the typical decor and great company.

Wrong wine served Watery chicken and mushroom pie, thin crust Oil dripping fish and chips Linguine overly oily Ordered sourdough bread and served brown .. no explanation Bloody awful and overly priced, disappointing as we were entertaining guests from overseas. Regrettably mislead by the Heston name. Never again.

We had the turkey lunch, and although what we had was delicious, we only had 4 sprout leaves and no carrots at all. The pub had 2 open fires which were not lit, hence it was quite chilly.
