The Fifth Element
We came to see The Playboys! First time at the restaurant - really impressed - food delicious, service excellent!
Food was amazing! Everyone enjoyed their dish and the service was great. Definitely make a reservation if you’re going on a busy night!
Fun eclectic vibe. Enjoyed the ambiance. Pizzas were really good! Salmon was good! Overall a good experience.
I would definitely recommend Fifth Element. I had chicken tandoori chicken....quite good!
We loved the ambience/ vibe / decor of this hip establishment. Our server was outstanding and so helpful. Our ladies thoroughly enjoyed our sweet Martinis. 3 of us loved our dinners while the other half were not so thrilled. The vegetarian crock was delicious and we'll seasoned. However the tandoori chicken was too dry (not thoroughly immersed in Tandoori paste) and the chickpeas were too spicy (could have used a cautionary reminder as our diner was a youngster). While the scallops were delicious, the lentil surround was ill-suited for the dish (and some of lentils were tough and dry). nevertheless we left full and happy for the experience.
Everything was great. Music too!
Incredible food and atmosphere. We didn't go in with many expectations and left blown away and eager to return the next time we were in the area. Our party was very impressed with every single dish we ordered. The drink menu was world class and the owner (also our waitress for the night) couldn't have been nicer. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
We were in Newport for the weekend, and walked past The Fifth Element on our way from Thames St to the house we rented. Our kids, 13 & 10, were concerned that there wouldn't be anything they'd like.
They were surprised. The kids shared the 3B Burger, which was excellent, as was the salmon I enjoyed. My wife enjoyed her filet as well.
The service from Jasper was also very good.
We enjoyed the lamb poutine appetizer, excellent filet mignon.
So very enjoyable! Eat where the locals eat. It's a great change of pace from the crowded side of town; much more relaxed and much less touristy. Outdoor tables and indoor seating -- the large open windows make you feel you're outside. Good menu/food. Pleasant staff. Good value. Owner tends bar and visits with customers.
Overall the food was good tho not super special or creative. The service was spotty..,greeted promptly but felt the waitress was rushing to get us to order opting to come back in a few minutes rather then offering to help by familiarizing us with drinks and menu. Once our food was delivered we hardly saw her and had to wait a long time for our ck. Wish the service had been more relaxed and friendly. Would have changed how we felt about the experience. There was really only one part of one of the dishes we ordered that was sub par. Other then that it was good.
Monday night jazz band very good but extremely loud; we had to shout into each other's ears to speak and we were in the next room - good band though. Very crowded due to July 3rd holiday and service was slow. Food was great; I had the braised short ribs which were GLUTEN FREE and excellent but would have liked 3 (serving was 2). Due to my gluten allergy have not had short ribs in 20+ years since restaurants usually put gluten somewhere - they were very tender and tasty and highly recommend. Husband had steak which looked very good as well. Gluten free creme brulee was also good, just be sure to advise of the allergy.
Great restaurant just off the beaten path from the more touristy areas of Newport. Each meal was extremely flavorful. Cool, hip vibe. Worth the walk. Will definitely be back!
Extraordinarily good! A superb place
Although I really want to like it, I always walk away from the Fifth Element a little disappointed. Aside from the spinach balls, the rest of our food (chickpea fritters, wedge salad, black bean burger) was mediocre or bad. The wine was lovely, though.
superb, as always!
Another delicious meal at Fifth Element! We had dined here last last summer and happily returned tonight. The service was terrific (love it when a wait person can remember all six of our orders without writing down a thing!); she was solicitous, helpful and friendly. The food was terrific. Lots of options for us all, plus GF options for four of our six. Everything was very flavorful and downright yummy. I do hope to return before we head home in another week! If not, it will be first up when we return next summer. I highly recommend this place.
The restaurant was a cute spot just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Newport. They have a variety of seating options inside and outside with large open windows so you can have the luxury of both! Service was friendly. Drinks were good. Prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area.
The menu is small with a few unique options. My friends and I each had the burger and shared the lamb poutine fries. Everything was well-prepared. I liked that they had GF buns for the burger. I wished they had more burger and pizza options which is my only reservation for 5 stars on foods.
Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Great desserts. It made for a great night with friends.
Salmon was farm raised, and undercooked. Dish as a whole was bland, gluten free.
Lamb potine was delicious.
Short ribs very good.
We’ve been dining here for years and have never been disappointed. It’s a little out of the way near the hospital and police station and street parking can be a pain, but it’s worth the effort. The bar is always hopping and the food consistently excellent. The windows are open to the street and they have a few sidewalk tables. Start with the burata and spinach balls. The pizza of the day is always good and so is the short rib. Service is very attentive.
Our group of four Distinguished speakers from the Naval War College’s Current Strategy Forum were very pleased with all aspects of our evening. Thank you!
We loved it, very kind staff, gluten allergy friendly, and we can't wait to bring more friends there.
Pleasant ambiance and decor. Food was original and yummy. Service was friendly and timely.
We are big fans of the Fifth Element. Menu is good and interesting. With the windows open, it makes a really nice dinner on a lovely night. Only criticism is the food is consistently slow coming out.
I couldn't have been happier with this meal! I'm gluten-free and used to having to eat boring burgers on plain lettuce. Much to my surprise, they had excellent gluten-free burger buns and great salad options. My boyfriend had steak and was very happy with it, too. Service was perfect, and portions were generous.
It was only a 3-day trip to Newport, but I would have gone back a second time if possible. Hope to go back again someday.
Visited recently for a celebratory Sunday brunch. Live music was fun. Table was ready and we were seated promptly. And then we waited for about ten minutes before our waitress appeared with menus. Waited another ten minutes before our drink order was taken, and again to order our meals. Once it arrived, the food was good and the portions were plentiful. Unfortunately, the food was not good enough to overlook the poor service. Our waitress never returned to ask whether everything was okay or whether we wanted to order another drink. Had really looked forward to dessert, however it never arrived. I wish I could say we would give this place another chance, but there are just too many other good options and the level of service here did not make this a pleasant experience.
Overall The Fifth Element was just O. K. . I wouldn’t rush back there. My veggie burger was a good size, but very bland as far as taste goes. My friend had a spinach omelette that was small and not allot of spinach in it. The fries were good. The service was extremely slow, waited a long time for the server to clear our plates and then bring the bill. Good thing we weren’t in a hurry 😕
ran out of some items ... other than that great experience and atmosphere
Service was not good - we waited 45 minutes and there were open tables everywhere.
Went this past weekend for an early graduation celebration.
Our waiter was very nice and attentive. A few mixed drinks were ordered. All were delicious.
We ordered a few appetizers, which we all enjoyed very much. The mussels were delicious because of the amazing broth. The chickpea fritters and spinach balls, were a nice change from the standard apps found in restaurants.
Everyone enjoyed their meals with a bit of slight exceptions:
I ordered the salmon and it was a bit too salty.
My daughter ordered the Avoco Salad. We both thought it would have avocado in it. Didn't realize it was "AVOCO". Our waiter was very sorry for the misunderstanding and said patrons mistake it quite often and that they should change the name. Which leads me to believe, that they really should.
We were able to get a seat right away with no waiting. The food was great and the waitress was helpful with the menu and food options.
Great dining experience!! The ambiance at Fifth Element has a unique, cool vibe both in the large bar area and dining room. Our servicer was very friendly which helps make for a pleasant night. The craft cocktail menu is extensive and the raspberry ice martini was amazing! We ate on the lighter side sampling the spinach balls & chickpea fritters for apps and had the prosciutto fig pizza which was fantastic. This was my 2nd time at Fifth Element, my first visit being just as satisfying. I recommend this restaurant highly, it’ll be a regular “go to” place for me!
Having eaten here a year ago, I was looking to try it again and had a frustrating experience. The menu selection has improved, but service was sketchy and my food was inconsistent. The Element salad was very good, and our server was very pleasant. However, she spaced out on putting my order into the kitchen - my partner's burger was delivered and I had to ask about my entree. My salmon came 20 minutes later, and was raw in the middle, and the accompanying vegetables were overseasoned with black pepper. Rather than send it back and wait another 20 minutes, I ate around the edges and took the rest home to re-cook. If it had been properly prepared, it would have been very good, but they obviously rushed to correct the mistake. The server did provide a delicious complimentary dessert. I am hoping we hit it on an off night, and will maybe try again.....or maybe not..
Great food, prices, and service. Had an issue with the sun shining in my face during dinner—will ask to sit somewhere else next time. We will be back for another great experience!
My son and I were gratefully well-fed in a nice warm spot by the fires of the wood burning stone oven on an unseasonably cold Sunday morning - premier league, premier jazz quartet, premier virgin bloody mary's!
We were seated promptly. Our waitress delivered our wine then forgot about us for 30 mins. We had to get another waitress to find her. When she returned she took our order and was informed we had to be somewhere by 8 . She left our table went to two other tables to take care of them before putting in our order. We ate our food fast and were 10 mins late to our show. The food was good though
The Fifth Element is a favorite! Always an excellent meal, friendly and prompt service, excellent cocktail and wine list... I could go on and on. Love this place!
Quality food, nice ambiance.
The food and service was excellent.. we’ve never been disappointed when we’ve eaten here and today was no exception! The crispy feta was delicious!
