My husband and I had not visited The French Gourmet in several years. I bid on this basket at The Clairemont Fundraiser Spring Fling and so glad I got it. Mark was our server and he was "spot on" with his knowledge of the menu, wines and made a killer Martini. I ordered the Filet Mignon and it was delicious and cooked to perfection, medium rare. My hubby had the fresh caught Halibut and he cleaned his plate and mentioned several times how good it was. It was a pleasant evening and we will be back.

The food was pretty good. Even with a reservation, we still aren’t seated until almost an hour after we arrived. When the reservation was made there was absolutely NO notification that there would only be buffet on Mother’s Day. We expected 20-30 per plate, not 70.

Pleasantly surprised how great the food layout was for our reservation for Mother’s Day this year. Was not expecting that. Also, the service from everyone was warm and hospitable. The French Gourmet made for a great Mother’s Day experience. Definitely recommend!

With all aspects of dining out included, I don't believe I could name a better restaurant in San Diego. When you balance out the ambiance, food quality, and level of service with what you pay, it truly shines. It may not be the absolute "best" food in San Diego (but it does contend in that regard), it may not have the absolute "best" service in San Diego (it also does contend there), and while it is not inexpensive, you get far more than you pay for. If you can make it for an Easter or Mothers' Day brunch buffet, you will be treated to one of the best brunch experiences in the area. The staff is always so pleasant, and they have an amazing bakery to boot! We often pop in for a pastry or some bread, and we rarely leave a meal without swinging by the bakery for something extra to go!

Our favorite French restaurant in San Diego. Their Rack of lamb, New York steak, crab cakes and escargot are delicious. Their dessert are so delicious as well. Staffs are very friendly.

We had, as usual, a terrific meal. We started off with a glass of 'champagne' and a glass of burgundy - both very tasty and both light pours. My wife had the charcuterie board (for leftovers the next day) and the rack of lamb (also leftovers); I had the kale Caesar (yes, leftovers) and, since they do not offer the duck confit (my favorite FG dish) any longer, the filet mignon (no leftovers!). EVERYTHING was fabulous. We were too full for desserts, but they looked 'steal-worthy' if we had the room, when passing by our table! It's a bit noisy, simply a reflection of its popularity and the small space inside. If you're ok with the weather, this would not be an issue outside (covered, with space heaters). TFG is one of our favorite restaurants in San Diego - not well known to the casual tourists but very well known by locals. I hope it stays that way. Another great meal. ATBster

Delicious brunch! Omelets were perfect! Enjoyed the bread service as well. Outside patio is so nice and quant. It was quiet until someone with a loud humming sanding project started out in the back of the patio. We don't believe that's the restaurants' fault just their annoying neighbor. We will be back!!

This place is a real gem. There is a bakery counter and small wine shop at the entrance, with dining in the back. The food was wonderful. We had brussel sprouts, onion soup, filet, and short ribs and everything was perfectly prepared. Portions were generous. Service was attentive but unrushed. We will definitely go back!

We attended the Easter buffet brunch and it was wonderful--an enormous variety including salads, fruits, pastries, eggs, sausage, bacon, eggs Benedict, lamb chops, beef tenderloin and desserts. It was impossible to try everything but our group of four made a valiant effort. Needless to say, no one went home hungry. It met, and exceeded, all of our expectations.

Delicious buffet breakfast for Easter morning with lots of French food dishes. The restaurant itself is adorable, complete with French style music, (which could’ve been a little softer). A little chilly in there with the doors open. Other than that, a wonderful experience.

The Easter Brunch was excellent, with a great selection of breakfast and dining choices. The filet mignonette and poke were outstanding. There were so many choices that was impossible to consume them all. And, of course, the pastries were fresh and delicious!

One of our favorite spots over the last 40 years. Went during restaurant week 3/28/2023. Had the scallops offering . Usually terrific. Found these to be smaller than usual and not as succulent. Veggies were too al dente for me. They then brought out a side of asparagus which was excellent. Crab cakes for appetizer were very good. We will return but never will go during restaurant week to there or any other place as our normal experience during those times has been less than stellar.

I had never had French cuisine before I went to the French Gourmet.....it has totally opened my eyes to French cuisine. The food was phenomenal....the wait staff was very kind and helpful. I will definitely be going back soon.
