The Southern Gentleman is a Southern-inspired gastropub in The Shops Buckhead Atlanta. The concept celebrates every aspect of what it means to be from the South with a fresh, modern take on traditional dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The bar program explores the artistry and history of classic Southern cocktails—everything from barrel-aged cocktails to bottled libations to adult beverages on tap, along with New World wines and craft beers and the “perfect” mint julep.

The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

Overall it was a pleasant experience. The food is good but some dishes under seasoned with exception for the fried chicken. It was good. We had Sunday brunch so not much to choose from. The skillet cake and chicken dish was not what I expected. The cake looked like cornbread white the same consistency without the corn rear flavor. However, the flavor was lacking. The maple syrup it sat in helped a little. The bacon was thick and tough to eat from being over cooked. But my husband loved it. We all have different tastes and for me, it was okay/good. The service is top notch! Our server made us feel welcome and he was down to earth friendly and overall hospitable. The building was gorgeous, seating and lighting as well.

I feel they were really under staffed. I was seated at the table for 35 minutes before I flagged down a server just to bring me a glass of water while I waited for my actual server to come to my table to take my order (maybe another 15 minutes). I probably spent at least an hour longer there than I planned because they were understaffed, so validated parking didn't help

I had the shrimp & grits and my wife had the fried chicken. We had the pimento cheese appetizer and a shared side of asparagus. The appetizer was served with potato chips, which was a bit odd. The shrimp & grits were reasonably good, but the sauce was a bit heavy. The fried chicken was dry (overcooked). The asparagus was overcooked and had too much olive oil on it. The ambiance was nice and our server did a good job.

The service and food was terrible. The bread was hard as a brick and it took forever to get a replacement piece. The menu was the Fathers Day brunch and it was terrible and so not worth the $60.00/pp. My food was cold, I had to send it back. It took forever to get our food. It wasn't until we noticed a family that came in about 30 minutes after us get their food that we questioned where was our food. We pointed this out to the server and our food then came out. I believe the family actually got our food. The dessert was terrible. It was almost as if they went to BJ's and Sams and bought some dessert in bulk and served to the customers. The server was so unattentive even though it wasn't very crowded. I hate that she even received one dime for gratuity for she did not do her job. We had to flag her down each time and also remind her for example to bring more water. I did let the manager know as we left about my concerns. He offered to take something off the bill, but I was so disappointed and ready to go that I declined.

The service was wonderful, Jessica was warm, pleasant, welcoming and very attentive to us and our needs. She was a joy to have as we enjoyed the great food. The service was exceptional! Great drinks and appetizers! Kale greens (which I expected to be collard) were too vinegary and corn bread tasted like tamales 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽 was tamale flavored. Next time I will try different sides.

The menu really needs to be changed. I had a salad with chicken. I have no idea how you can ruin a salad. Well I am guessing you put loads of purple cabbage in it. And…huge leafs of Romain lettuce. It was really bad. It didn’t even look good. The restaurant is beautiful but the food is not good.

When we arrived we were greeted and seated promptly. Jessica was our server. Had the french toast, a side of fried chicken & a order of hush puppies. The french toast was VERY HARD to bite into, it made my gums bleed a bit & it was a cold. The chicken was good. The hush puppies use to served with this green sauce, that paired amazing together. The white goat cheese thats paired with it now, taste like sour cream/cream cheese. It wasn’t as good as it use to be. When I asked if they had any of that green sauce, I was advise that the hush puppies were not served with that anymore and I was given more goat cheese sauce instead. Which I didnt ask for. Needless to sayp, it was not worth the visit. It was a very subpar experience in regards to the food

They weren’t efficient cleaning off tables. We were waiting with multiple tables sitting with 2 hostess. 1 of the hostess finally went to clean off the table after 15 minutes then we sat. That was the only thing off.

Had brunch here with my husband to celebrate the holiday weekend. Mikayla/Michaela/Macala was wonderful. We were greeted immediately and served in a timely manner. We had the soft scrambled eggs, skillet cake and fried chicken and the hush puppies with a carafe of the seasonal mimosa. It was all wonderful as always. We’ll be back in a few weeks/months.

First time experience here for some of my new friends. They liked it very much. We had 7 people in our party and were charged an 18% gratuity, which I thought I read it was only charged to parties of 8 or more.

Very vibrant and energetic scene, with a great mix of both casually and sharply dressed people. We enjoyed our booth adjacent to the central bar, and our service was casual yet personal. We had hush puppies, ricotta spread and toast, and pork belly to start. They were all tasty, but the portions were on the light side. Peanuts with pork belly? Yes, please! For our entrees, the fried chicken was delicious. The collard greens were far too salty and bitter for my liking and I ate only the one bite. I do recommend the mac and cheese, however, as it was a creamy white cheese base. Of course, the excellent martini helped set the mood as well. 3.5/5*

I believe Shanna was my server. She had been my server on another occasion and we remembered each other. She was great and do her job as detailed in the training session. A training session was being conducted for the staff as I waited for my guest on the patio. A point was being made to upsell the patrons as water was being brought to the table. Of course, Shanna had done this brought our water and took my cocktail order before she came over to participate in the training. The training was running long such that it took a while for my cocktails to be brought to the table until she was freed up from the training. Anyway the point here is that Shanna should be the 'poster child' as to how things should be implemented from the training the management delivers.

The girls and I had brunch here this past Sunday and we were thoroughly pleased with our dining experience. Our table was ready immediately and our server was very nice. We each ordered different items and were impressed with our meals. The menu is limited in terms of options, but what is offered is delicious. We'll be back for sure!
