The Sugar Loaf Lounge
Waitress really lovely but lady on cash desk...very rude. I asked her to check a voucher card I had and it was as if I was really putting her out. No nice good morning or yes certainly...just rude. Food was lovely...but portion very small.
Brought my husband and mother for lunch, having previously had a very good experience. My fish was undercooked and I brought it to the attention of the waitress who was apologetic and offered me a complimentary tea which I declined. She said she would report to kitchen and manager, however, when the bill arrived no further comment was made. Unfortunately has put me off returning as an expensive lunch to not enjoy.
We waited 1hr and 20mins for our mains.
Portions were extremely small and was not worth the price.
A drink on the house was offered after the long wait , where as if we were told there was a wait we may have left and went outside the facilities.
If there is a long wait, drinks should be provided to fill the gap.
We planned to meet with a wedding planner the next day but felt the lack of service and disappointing visit overall, we cancelled early that morning.
We even left the hotel early the next day to get home.
Nice family lunch, menu is not huge but adequate choice for most. Lovely seat as requested and waitress was very helpful.
Absolutely loved it! Special treat for my elderly aunt
Ambiance fantastic! It's worth to come again... Cuisine & service was good. Unforgettable experience, and thanks for the complimentary dessert for my birthday!!! You made me smile.
First time visiting the hotel when I took my mother for her birthday lunch. We were shown to a lovely table overlooking the gardens and served by the most delightful lady (from Greystones). It was relatively quiet for a Monday. Food was delicious and service impeccable. Surprise chocolates (made in house we were told) after lunch to acknowledge my mother's birthday were sublime and greatly appreciated. We will definitely return and highly recommend.
Staff are very attentive ....beautiful surroundings and food is presented so well and tastes delicious!
A lovely place to have lunch, quiet with wonderful scenery and great service. I went for walk in the grounds while my wife sat by a roaring fire and read the papers. The staff could not have been more helpful. Looking for a copy of The Irish Independent and it was delivered to our chair from nowhere. Would highly recommend.
Booked our table online and worked fine. Tried phoning twice the night before and next morning and no answer on both occasions, just rang out. Put it down to busy due Valentine's Day.
The biggest problem with our visit, and hence the fairly low rating for service, wasn't due to our server, who was fantastic and 'in training', but with the host. We stood at the desk for a while before she came over to check our booking and seat us - no apology for keeping us waiting, no welcome, no smile, nothing.
We had to ask her for water, which she was not happy about. Her response to everyone was "Are you OK?" Hardly the expected query from someone fully trained and running the room of a five star hotel. However, our server was great - smiling, friendly, efficient and with a sense of humour.
When we asked the host for the bill, she took her time. And get this, when she delivered it, the folder was open, showing the bill, AND SHE SAID OUT LOUD HOW MUCH IT WAS!!!!! Totally unacceptable.
We noticed her attitude was similar to some other guests. This woman is the reason I cannot give a more positive review, because the experience of her was just so bad. I cannot understand how management allow someone so clearly rude, untrained and just plain inept in the very basics of service to be in this position. Seriously, the trainee waitress was so much better, on all counts. We made sure to tip her directly.
Service is very poor, the host that took our order was in dreamlands and she took our order and got everything wrong
She was worried we stay more than 2 hours for the high tea reservations, unbelievable as if we are eating like turtles and for free
The staff here are excellent, they will do anything to assist you. The food is amazing.
Very disappointing experience for a hotel that used to have high standards.
We felt that not only was the service really poor but that the server actually disliked us before we even sat down, at least that is the impression she left.
Upon sitting down, we were informed that the tables close to the windows were reserved which is unusually considering we had reserved lunch.
The food menu is too small and the quality is not what it should be. It was ok but not living up to a five star hotel.
Really enjoyed. Service was great, in particular the young lady that served us (possibly Nicole??)
Lovely lunch in the Sugar Loaf Lounge! Food is always delicious and the service is second to none! Great for special occasions or just to sit back and relax!
We have been to the Sugar Lounge before and loved it. The last visit was a disappointment mainly because of the menu, prices (too high for what it is) and unattentive waiters. Previously they had a great choice and it was a full sitdown menu, now it is more like a cafe with a very limited choice. On my memory, the choice consisted of two varieties of sandwiches, two mains with some variation for one, two salads, soup, choice of deserts were scones, morning pastry or selection of deserts but you have to ask a waiter what it is. It was not what I remember from a couple of my previous visits. I was really looking forward to my lunch and it was an absolute disappointment. I think Sugar Lounge is missing a trick, it could be a great venue for executive business lunches or dinners considering their relatively close proximity to the South Dublin business area, great parking facilities, breathtaking location. This place has a great potential I just hope people who manage it can see it too.
We had a lovely lunch. Great food and service along with a fantastic buzzy atmosphere in the hotel.
Staff are so attentive ... couldn’t fault anything about this place will be back again soon, the afternoon tea looked lovely
Some staff were not polite was only disappointment. Everything else was superb. We really enjoyed.
We had a lovely lunch, great food and nice service, really friendly and very professional. Amazing views over the mountains too!! Definitely will return!
Beautiful place, lovely staff . Service was slow and I got a chicken ceaser salad and it was ok
Overall excellent, food delicious, service very good . However it was very confusing to get booking . I rang the night before to be told only booking after four available for afternoon tea and when I asked was told only afternoon tea was available nothing else . However then I was able to book a table online for 2.45 . Also when we got there there was a lunch menu and afternoon tea available to order .
Wunderbarer Afternoon Tea und äußerst zuvorkommendes Personal. Spezielle Wünsche wurden problemlos erfüllt. Die Qualität war hervorragend.
The food is a tad ordinary for the truly lovely venue, otherwise a very pleasant afternoon.
Excellent food and service as to be expected at this hotel. Views of the surrounding mountains and grounds are beautiful to behold whilst enjoying your meal, even when overcast as it was the day we went. Cost is higher than average but worth it for the ambiance.
Very relaxed lunch. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Well looked after by Kayleigh. Amazing view. Lovely ambiance.
Underwhelmed by the food at the Sugar Loaf lounge, given that Powerscourt is such a nice venue. A chicken wrap with tomato & rocket served with a 'side salad' (some leaves and two baby tomatoes), was overpriced & mediocre at best. Side of chips was ordered with this (most places would give you some on the side considering the wrap was €14) were again mediocre. A poor coffee for €5 also. I wouldn't mind paying for any of these if they had been really good but there was absolutely no value for money. Service was fine, the girl who served us was nice but generally the staff could probably do a bit more. Won't return anytime soon for business or pleasure. Shame as it really is a lovely place but second time here & disappointed by quality & value for money.
Most lovely hotel, the restaurant is beautiful. The tea is awesome as are the pastries and the steak sandwich. Lovely!
Lovely spot, gorgeous view, good service. Menu could be more varied, not a great deal of choice. Seating is a little uncomfortable depending on which table you get.
Waitresses were super! Very friendly, only too happy to help. Brought my wife for our anniversary lunch. We had our 6-month old don anc they were very accommodating. Had a high chair on standby. Nice touch with a selection of complimentary chocolates for the occasion. Thanks to all the Sugar Loaf, you made our day!
Food was very disappointing, limited lunch menu and very bland, tasteless food. Love Powerscourt Hotel, ambience etc is fantastic but would not recommend for the food.
Very Dissapointing overall. Slow Service, bland and overpriced food. It was a hot day and we were sat in the window, which was too hot and ubcomfortable, there were plenty of other tables we could have been sat at. Drinks took a long time to arrive and when we asked for tap water, 2 stale looking glasses arrives with not an ice cube or lemon to be seen. Food was extremely bland and small portions. Cannot dispute the beautiful setting but that is about at this place has going for it. We are locals and This is somewhere we used to always come as a treat but it has gone down hill in the past few years.
Had lunch here for table of 6. We had a window seat which was lovely for the view but watch out for the sun in your eyes. Food was tasty, servings can be small so we went for side orders too. Decent enough kids menu and friendly service. A little pricey but to be expected giving the surroundings.
Excellent service, food, atmosphere and location! The staff are so helpful friendly and kind! The food is delicious and great value and the location is breath taking!
Food was ok but nothing special, service was slow but very friendly. Sadly the couches were filthy- literally stains & chunks of crumbs on & between cushions.
Booked a special breakfast for Mother’s Day but when turned up they only had cold pastries and coffee available. Hostess was very apologetic and tried to negotiate a breakfast with the chef who was unhappy about the situation making us feel very burdensome and awkward. Tried to book an alternative restaurant locally but everywhere fully booked on Mother’s Day so had no choice but to stay. The view is beautiful but the food was awful. The toast was essentially warm bread, the pastries cold and the omelettes at €12 a pop, mediocre. A really disappointing experience from a 5 star hotel, and am totally bemused that they are accepting breakfast bookings from open table if this is all they are offering their customers. Staff were nice and a gorgeous setting but left really dissatisfied in terms of the food.
Disappointing. Dinner portions miniscule for the (not inconsiderable) price: poor value for money in comparison with other eateries nearby (Fern House comparable in cost: dishes & flavours far superior there, sorry).
Noisy clearing and clattering of dishes made conversation difficult at times.
Desserts were offered with 5 choices shown on a small slate. These looked small, harshly coloured, unappetising and dry.
Second time I have been disappointed in past 2 visits: handy location for us but while we might pop in for coffee, I'm afraid we won't be back to dine.
Overall, a lovely scenic place to eat. Our waiter was attentive . But nothing special about the menu (we where there on the 13th Feb). My partners glass was dirty with lipstick stains, which I found strange for a 5 star hotel & restaurant. Food was good, but no better than a good country pub! Surprising as I had been here 10 years ago for a stay and it was a much experience
Lovely ambiance, food was good, but service was poor - we were left waiting for 35 minutes for our wine order. The duty manager was less than apologetic for the delay
Great venue and food and super location. For a bar style menu the selection is great
