Tico, by James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Schlow, brings bold Latin American flavors to DC's 14th Street neighborhood. The newest iteration of Tico's menu is inspired by the recipes and traditions of Nikkei cuisine.

Our dinner menus features Peruvian and Japanese-inspired maki rolls, small plates, tacos, entrees and cocktails. Our menus rotate seasonally, and we have plenty of vegetarian options as well. Tico offers an extensive beverage program, including a robust wine and tequila list, craft cocktails and local brews.

The space evokes a playful vibe with upbeat music and artsy decor. We are great for groups and celebrations. Locals love our Bottomless Brunch and daily Power Hour!

I have eaten at Tico many times for brunch and dinner, including work and fundraising events. I cut a lot of restaurants slack because of COVID-19, but the brunch food this time was beyond lackluster. With the exception of the Mac and cheese and churros, all else lacked taste. The breakfast tacos were a joke: cold tortilla, smattering of scrambled eggs, and disproportionate twigs of cilantro (the ONLY taste). And, while I know the management is trying to safeguard its servers, the instruction to mask every time a server approached you was tedious for a tapas restaurant. The only way that works is if you bring all dishes at once rather than piecemeal. Terrible experience!

It was a great brunch but for some reason there was about an hour thst no food was brought out :(
I know it was Labor Day but something was definitely going wrong in the ktichen
The bottomless brunch is only 1.5 hours... so when no food comes for 1 hour, it makes it hard to justify a good experience
Luckily, tico made it up to use by next extending our time for food and giving us great drinks.
Staff was AWESOME. This was my second time back in a 3 week period and I’ll be back again! The food is super good and comes out piping hot

Been here many years ago but this time was a total disappointment. My taco was very cold and my boyfriend could not eat his shrimp dish and did not feel good after (not picky eaters). The restaurant seemed understaffed but forgot our drinks and left us without water many times. It was a bummer...

All in all no major complaints. Food was good, bottomless dishes and drinks are awesome. Service was a bit off, though, with dishes arriving late or never. Given they are operating at a reduced client capacity you would think they would be super efficient.

So glad to go back to Ticos! We really missed their food and speciality drinks. I was so impressed with their cleanliness and attention to ensuring guests are safe as this pandemic continues. David the manager was so attentive and insured guests including ourselves had a wonderful time. Stephanie was our waitress and she was fabulous – you should ask for her on your next visit. We had our favorite drink Mezcaroni and tried various dishes Which were all so great. Everything has a unique taste which makes a superb dinner. David let us sample their sushi which should be starting in September - You definitely need to try it. Fish is so fresh with a little jalapeño and roe; you can’t go wrong with any of the orders. Just thinking about the great food and service right now makes me want to go back again. This is a must try in DC and you’ll be so glad you did!

Tico has been a long time favourite of mine. Did the Sunday brunch with unlimited mimosas. The food was not as good as usual, seem like everything was just slapped together. We were also charged an additional $12 for our unlimited drinks simply because we chose grapefruit juice, but were never told that it would be extra, so read the fine print.

We went to Tico for Summer 2020 restaurant week. The place was super clean and pretty quiet. The food was incredible, especially the corn and potato appetizers. Margaritas were also super delicious!

I thought it was a great deal and I will definitely do it again, but the 1 1/2 time limit on the brunch I think is a little too short. Especially with all the upgrades you can do to your drinks the bill racks up quick and an 1 1/2 seems like not enough time to really take your time to enjoy yourself. 2 hours I think is more fair. But whatever.

Great place to dine! Tables were very spaced out. Drinks and food came incredibly quick. Staff were quick to let diners know that they needed to wear a mask while going somewhere in the restaurant (which gave me peace of mind know they were doing what they could!). The tacos were great but a little small so I recommend ordering multiple for the table. Overall, a great place, great food and staff made us feel super safe.

Tico did a great job at keeping customers a good distance away as well as maintaining a clean environment. Unfortunately, they had to alter the menu a bit because of today’s environment. The food was delicious, but I do wish they had a couple more heavier meat based items like the chicken tacos and sliders they carried before. They also introduced a nice walk up margarita bar which I hope they keep in some capacity after covid.

Since the “bottomless” brunch has an hour and a half time limit, great service is absolutely essential, but it’s clear that the restaurant was understaffed. Despite ordering a variety of different brunch dishes to try, our table was delivered dishes at random. Even after specifically requesting the dishes we had ordered, we continually only received other random dishes to “tide us over” until we got our real dishes. Spoiler alert—the real dishes never came. Our server was so kind and it was truly not her fault, it was clear the restaurant was severely understaffed.

This review is a little biased since we went the day DC announced the COVIN restaurant restrictions. So there was hardly a soul in the restaurant. I feel like due to this - we really received the best experience and the attention to all the rules and regulations but still offering exceptional service was top notch.

Birthday. Everybody ordered the bottomless food and drink so they brought out everything “family style” which means they just went down the menu and brought about a bunch of small plate food. They kept the carafes of mimosas and margaritas full at all times. Great food.

The food at Tico is always great, but I was somewhat disappointed in the service this time around. When we were shown to our table, there were no chairs there and we had to stand awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant for someone to bring us chairs. Our server was great, but when I tried to use my OpenTable gift card, the manager was pretty rude and condescending to me about it and I wasn’t able to use it.

Arrived with our group for a 2:30 pm reservation for bottomless brunch. We were told there were no tables available and didn't get seated until 3 pm. They were understaffed for the amount of people that were there, and our waiter informed us the best way to get food and drink was just to let them bring plates/pitches out themselves on a rolling basis. We weren't allowed to share dietary restrictions (we had a vegetarian with us) and didn't get to make any requests as to which dishes or drinks we would like to select. Food arrived sporadically at best, and we didn't get to try all of the items we wanted to. The biggest issue though was that at 4pm they told us brunch ended and we could no longer get any additional drinks/food after that. This would have been fine had we been informed earlier and had we not been seated a half hour late. All in all, we only got one hour of food/drinks, despite the menu stating brunch tables would recieve 2 hours of service. Food was good (if not sparse), but given our experience, I would advice folks to go to a different restaurant for brunch until Tico is able to staff up appropriately.

Hadn’t been to Tico before and the menu looked awesome, price was amazing, and who doesn’t like bottomless.
I made a reservation for 1:45p. We got there at 1:30p to realize for you asked the place was. We got seated at 2:08p.
The waiter was nice and explained everything. He was efficient with the beverage refills.
We were a couple carafes deep and 30 minutes into the meal, the waiter stopped by the table to inform us that the kitchen was backed and he’d have food out soon. Over the course of the next 45 minutes we only had three small plates to hold over the table.
Once the crowds started thinning out, we got more food.
Gregory did a great job handling the situation (he gets 5 stars) but I rated service lower due to the kitchen and the madness of the host’s stand.
Probably won’t go again but want to try out their Italian sister restaurant at an earlier time.

Worst DC brunch experience in my 8 years of brunching in this city. Hostesses were very rude, entryway was completely packed with guests waiting to be seated, and we didn't get to our table until over an hour after our reservation time. Of the dozens of dishes we ordered as part of our "bottomless" food/drink, we received, at most, 5 of them. For 10 people that equated to MAYBE one (disappointing) tiny taco per person. The waitress (who was very nice and deserves to be working with much more organized management), continued to say that our food was coming out, even though we'd been waiting for it for 2+ hours at that point. On top of that, the noise level was unbearable.

We definitely won't be going back, and suggest everyone else rethink their decision as well if you have plans to go here.

We made a reservation as we knew the restaurant is very busy for brunch. Upon arrival we were made to wait for a table. We were told our table was still occupied but the previous party just needed to get up. After waiting for 30 minutes we were told our table didn’t have any chairs. The host stand and management clearly over extended their abilities and were not able to accommodate groups they knew were coming. The host was rather cold and unaccommodating during this time. We asked for drinks from the host and were ignored. Finally we spoke to a manager who was preparing to seat us. He explained drinks would be at the table immediately. Upon being seated, both tables were so wobbly that empty glasses had to be held onto to avoid tipping over. Many employees saw our problem and even knew we had to resort to folding our menus to stabilize the tables. It was a very frustrating arrival.

Once started the service and food were great. However, again, they over stretched their abilities and the atmosphere was complete chaos. We had to yell to hear ourselves (our party was between the ages of 28 and 31). The tables were so close together that we had to sit completely against our own table and were still constantly being hit by staff members moving through the restaurant. It was a nightmare.

With as terrible as the experience was atmosphere wise, the food is always great. I always have low expectations for a bottomless brunch, but Tico always keeps their food standards high. Food was always fresh and tasted great. Cheers to the kitchen!
