   One of my favorite places to eat in Oceanside or in fact the world. Everything always tastes so fresh with clear clean tastes. Says a lot when a vegetarian with a soy intolerance has a sushi restaurant as a favorite place but they always accommodate my odd diet and come up with something delicious.

   The many high reviews and hype got us to give it a try. Quality is good and fresh and service was good, however just not that impressed overall. Also a bit pricey. Salmon Nigiri was good, Dragonfly was good, the Local Yellowtail Tangerine Salsa Yuzu was terrible, (over sauced with maybe added mayonnaise) just not good. Also, why no Edamame?? Place is simple and seems a bit run down or maybe that's just the vibe they want. The experience didn't leave an impression on us and one can easily forget about re-visiting or recommending this restaurant to others.

    This was our 5th or so time here. We absolutely love it. Food is amazing and the servers are fabulous. We’ve just gotten used to their strange hostess situation (one hostess, she’ll walk you to your table and take your drink order and then casually wait for it while people are standing in line waiting to check in — we’ve waited up to 20 minutes before in a short line of check-ins. It’s so bizarre. She’s very sweet and I don’t think it’s a “her” problem, I just don’t know what the restaurants thought process is being it), just be prepared to wait outside for a while if you arrive and aren’t the only person there. Otherwise the food is the freshest fish we’ve had in San Diego. Absolutely worth every penny!!

    Came here on the recommendation of chef Hiroyuki Terada via YouTube. We were not disappointed, in fact, thoroughly impressed. The omakase featured over 10 different nigiri tastings, 2 sashimi courses, a soup course (I think this was the chef's way of letting us know he is still a classically trained chef; I see you), and finished with a seared fish course. Everything was clearly well thought out, with different purees, sauces, and other toppings purpose-built for each piece of fish they were paired with. The meal was excellent, the chef accomodated our food allergy (celiac) easily, and we left feeling full. The Wrench 75 was also great!

    Just go here, and order the omakase if you can. These folks are creative and try to run a sustainable business, so you love what you’re eating and can feel good about it. We travel a long way when we visit here, and Loren and his team leave us feeling happy we did.

    We ate dinner Apr 21 2023. We choose the Omakase which was 5 courses at the Chefs discretion. OMG it was diverse and wonderful. The service was prompt and was able to explain what we ate. Our only negative experience was the bathrooms were dirty.

    We try to visit every few months, we live in the OC. We are always excited to see what new and unique creations they’ve come up with! We are never disappointed😎 We started with Grilled Romaine and Wings of the Sea… amazing blending of flavors… the conversation ceased at this point😬 We also had the Fox Trot and Chardonnay… lovely. Find r the rest we tried the Seared albacore, local yellowtail, Opah belly bacon nigiri, Saba nigiri & Sea bream nigiri. We enjoyed all except the Opah bacon and the Saba was a bit strong/fishy but that’s just mackerel for ‘ya😬 For desert we tried the pear and the vegan cake, both were delicious.

    We loved it the first time so we went back but this time the experience was very disappointing. They still gave you a lot of food for the omakase but the quality and taste were not there. Too much rice on the sushi and it was dry. The fish was tasteless and not seasoned enough. You shouldn't have to use soy sauce for flavor. The half deep fried/half sashimi kampachi was one of our favorites but when it came out, the fried part was lukewarm and they had replaced the fish sauce with something that's way too sweet. The coconut carrot soup and fried mackerel that came as part of the omakase were good. Morgan, our server, was friendly and attentive so service was still good but for the price, it's not a good value.

    We return for the omakase option, and like to be surprised by the chef! We have had the nicest servers and enjoyed sitting by the fires in the outside dining area. We appreciate that the location aligns with our views on sustainability and creative dishes. Def recommend.

    The sushi was fantastic. The hedgehog roll is sublime. We got one of the vegan roles, Patrick the Great, which was less amazing and maybe a little expensive for what it is, but still good, especially considering it's vegan.

    This place always hits. The sustainability of the products put out to its customers that not only taste good, but you can tell real thought goes into each dish and its preparation. Aways recommend the scallops and truffle nigiri and hedgehog roll. So damn good.

    A great place to enjoy a night out or a special occasion. The service was great and the food is really special. The menu is different each night with some very special fish from places that you would not expect. Trout from Idaho that looked like salmon.     Upon my arrival I had very high hopes due to all the hype. The restaurant is space is decently sized with lots of people seated and workers running around. This place is all hype and the food here sucked. I got the omakase experience and it was definitely not worth the money. It was a prime example of when creativity kills art. I understand it is the chef's choice, but having six plates with 1 being a mediocre fried fish and a soup is just disgraceful and lazy. The food was okay but taste was not worth the money. The nigiri was about 2/3s rice, without much seasoning in the rice and was cold as if it was wrapped in the fridge. The service was trash too. I waited 10min a upon my arrival to be seated even though I had a reservation. We were told that they were backed up, so the food would take longer to come out...but 6 small plates (with one being soup and one being a fried fish) for a dining experience should never take 2 hours. I recommend this restaurant for anyone who wishes to eat mediocre sushi or for those who never had actual good sushi.
