Best Southern American Restaurants in Westport Rd - Lyndon

Village Anchor is a winner for us. Our waitress, Maddie, was a joy and very attentive, as were all staff. We shared an appetizer, the best chili wontons we’ve had. I was fortunate to try a new menu addition, Elk Lasagna. It was delicious, light on sauce and cheese (perfect balance) with mild elk flavor. My husband enjoyed the Hotter Brown which featured pulled chicken rather than turkey, a mild cheese sauce (unlike many restaurants which smother with cheese) and amazing bacon strips. We shared a tasty Caesar salad which could have used more anchovies. Dessert went home with us—beignets stuffed with chocolate chip cookie dough—no need to comment further!

Outstanding service, atmosphere and food! Highly recommend

Our first time at LuVino. We had an enjoyable evening. The restaurant was nicely decorated and very comfortable. All of the staff were super nice. The service was excellent. The only reason this is a four star review and not a five star is that the food quality, while very good, wasn’t as good as other restaurants we frequent in the same price category. I had steak and fries and found that the steak was pretty good, but the fries were a little dry and needed some more sauce or something and that the proportion of fries was pretty large compared to the steak. My wife has become a connoisseur of shrimp and grits and, again, found them to be good, but not as good as other places. The shrimp were breaded instead of grilled and she found that to be a fault with the dish. I don’t want to say that the food wasn’t good, because it was very good. It’s just there are other local restaurants that have higher quality food for the price.. We also got a bottle of wine and enjoyed that with dinner. They have an excellent wine and bourbon selection.

The Eagle is a great place for elevated southern food! I got the hushpuppies as a starter - flavorful and perfectly fried! Then the fried chicken sandwich as an entree - a good sized sandwich with crispy and juicy chicken (love the spicy mayo!). And finally mac and cheese as a side - cheesy goodness in a cast iron skillet! I will say some of the noodles were hard/could've have been cooked a little longer.
