Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond. TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

My boyfriend and I had Dan as our server and Maggie also helped out! They both absolutely rocked it out, we’re so knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings, and you can tell they truly love what they do. For my boyfriend’s birthday they had a complimentary toast and included a non-alcoholic option which was so thoughtful. There was a hand written card I. The table signed by all the staff which was so CUTE! They even marked the menu for dairy free options for us to make everything smooth and easy. We got to pick a record to play, and it felt like the evening was fully curated just for us. Every bite was delicious and creative, the art and vibes in there were original and welcoming, and the opposite of stuffy. The swarm service was bar none and I can’t wait to come back. Worth every penny.
