From the OpenTable editors: The Jean Banchet Awards recognized this River North institution with its iconic restaurant of the year award in 2026—fitting for America’s oldest Tuscan steakhouse, which opened in 1941. Dishes like bistecca Fiorentina highlight the connection to Italy while originals like chicken alla joe firmly tie it to Chicago. Pair your order with a selection from the Lucchesi wine list, the largest in the country, and a nod to the birthplace of the founders. The room matches the restaurant’s legendary status—it’s lined with signed photographs from celebrities who dined here, including Frank Sinatra.

Hey, Chicago. Kyle and I just celebrated eight amazing years together, and we couldn’t think of a better spot than the iconic Gene & Georgetti. @gene_georgetti. From the moment we walked in, it felt like we were part of the family. The old-school charm, the service, the steaks — everything about this place is classic Chicago. If you’re looking for a spot that’s equal parts legendary and welcoming, this is it. For the month of June, Celebrate Pride Month at Gene & Georgetti with their funfetti cake by @ecbg_studio. A portion of proceeds will be donated to @center_on_halsted. Gene & Georgetti is located at: 📍 500 N Franklin St. #chicago #chicagorestaurants #chicagodatenight #chicagosteakhouse #geneandgeorgetti

Were you aware of Chicago’s Original Tuscan Steakhouse since 1941? If you were, like me, you can’t get enough of it. If you weren’t, you have been missing out! Home to several celebrities, don’t miss their FRANK SINATRA BOOTH! A family owned business operating for over 80 years!!! Housemade pastas, with tantalizing sauces. For meat eaters, their steaks will blow you away. Italian inspired cocktails, impressive wine list and the BEST SERVICE! What more can you want?! . . . . . #chicagopescetarian #geneandgeorgetti #rivernorthchicago #chicagosteakhouse #thisischicago #chicagoreels #chicagoblogger #chicagogram #thingstodoinchicago #franksinatra #chicagobucketlist #pastalover #chicagoexplore #italianfood

Chicago is a city rich in history and @gene_georgetti has seen it all. This classic steakhouse has been in business since 1941 and has served politicians, celebrities and everyone in between. It's still going strong serving classic dishes with impeccable service that never disappoints. @charninja2 and I were excited to be invited because our family has a long history with Gene and Georgetti. @tperoulas Uncle Lambros was the bartender there for more than 30 years (regulars know him as Al). Charlie has been going there since he was in utero and the staff remembered him coming in and eating a ridiculous amount of steak and lamb 😂 over the years. It was a fun evening reminiscing about the history of the restaurant and sending photos to Lambros. Believe me we have heard some great stories over the years about all the people who have been (but my lips are sealed).
