About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
The Merrijig Kitchen is housed in the historic Merrijig Inn {1842), known as Victoria's oldest Inn. Situated across from the Port Fairy wharf, in the heart of gorgeous Port Fairy.
We are HIGH on atmosphere and write our menu daily, after Tanya chats with our fish monger, veggie growers, local butcher and any of our wonderful local gardeners who may pop in with their backgarden produce.
We spend a lot of time on our drinks program, offering our local Henty wine region producers, smattered between regional and international producers adhering to organic and biodynamic practises.
We love a bespoke cocktail, which we make inspired by our garden and of course, offer local artisan beer on tap.
Pop in, we'd love to see you whilst you are enjoying Port Fairy!

The highlight of our Great Ocean Road trip. The menu changes daily but the innovative dishes remain of the highest quality. All three courses were amazing and the service exceptional. The very extensive wine list is way beyond what you would normally expect. We are so pleased that we decided to go to Port Fairy rather than end in Warnambool. If you are staying in Port Fairy then definitely stay here as well - the included breakfast was another highlight. It truly felt like you were a special guest in the owners home. Cannot recommend this wonderful place highly enough.

An overall outstanding dining experience! Making the most of local produce and their own kitchen garden, the menu is a thoughtful to the season, whilst not extensive, the menu doesn't need to be. Whether sharing plates, or dining to your plate exclusively, there is something for all palates. The chef executed each dish we ate perfectly! The accompanying wine list matches well with the food, again something for all palates. Next time we are back in Port Fairy, we will definitely be dining there again! I highly recommend!

A highlight of our family road trip on the Great Ocean Road. We were lucky enough to stay upstairs in the Merrijig attic rooms, to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the little snug, and then to eat both dinner (outstanding) and breakfast (also outstanding) at the inn. We will remember the warm hospitality, atmosphere and character, service and sense of love for the property. Thanks to Liz and all the Merrijig team for an excellent stay in Port Fairy, we won't forget it.
