The Lord Mayor's Lounge at The Shelbourne Hotel Ratings and Reviews
We had a lovely meal at Lord Mayor's Lounge after a busy first day in Dublin. We were seated in cozy chairs near the fireplace. We enjoyed the smoked salmon appetizer and cocktails were spot on. The wine list was decent with enough variety to keep everyone happy. The Cesar salad as an entree was huge and the steak my husband had was delicious. Service was very professional and attentive. It was difficult to pick a dessert as they all sounded divine. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and they sent a sweet surprise. It's always special to enjoy a quiet dinner in a historical hotel.
People make places and this is true of the staff in the restaurant. We had afternoon tea with an elderly relative who is unsteady on her feet. We arrived slightly early while they were still setting up. There were no seats left in the foyer, so the kind girl took us in and seated us anyway, even though they weren't really open yet . Service throughout was excellent, attentive and friendly. Food was lovely too. It was a trip down memory lane for my relative who used to socialise at the Shelbourne when she was a girl and fondly remembers dancing the night away in the 50's and 60's. Thank you to all the staff for looking out for us and making my lovely aunt feel so special.
I brought my big sister as a treat for her birthday. This was our first time and we both loved it. The staff were so kind and helpful . As we were seated we happened to say it was a treat for my sisters birthday to a lovely young lady and she later surprised my sister with a little cake and candles and had happy birthday played on the piano. Such a fabulous surprise. We will definitely be returning
The setting is beautiful and the staff are amazing, but the afternoon tea menu was disappointing. Very underwhelming, no value for money, and it was expensive as we went for the champagne option. I have been to the Lord Mayor's Lounge for the evening supper before and I would highly recommend that, but afternoon tea - no!
It is a wonderful way to experience a beautiful tradition done the traditional way. When in Dublin take the time to relax and enjoy the old world charm of the High Tea at a beautiful restored historic, iconic hotel.
The Lord Mayors lounge at the Shelbourne will take you back to more leisurely days gone by. Do not plan on rushing this experience.
I always have a wonderful experience dining here. Staff are friendly and attentive and the food is superb. I can never finish the treats so they put them in a take home box for me.
The pianist is pleasant to listen to and the tea is changed and refreshed as much as you like.
Service was great, but the ambiance was a bit stale. Only that we had a gift card did we decide to give it a try. Egg salad on the brioche was disappointing. Brioche tasted like it was a day old, and the spoonful of eggsalad was hardly worth the effort. For €98, thought it was a joke to be fair. Sorry
We were there for a 30th birthday family get-together. It was a lovely afternoon. The birthday girl got a plate with 3 macaroons and a candle while the piano player played happy birthday which was a nice touch. However, I would definitely say it was a once off as 49 euros is very expensive for what you get.
Such a beautiful hotel! The tea area was SO comfortable and elegant. It is very expensive but for a special occasion we paid the money and really enjoyed it. For us (my daughter and I) there were too many sweets. We could have done with more savory foods. And the sweets weren't really ones that we loved although they were good. We were full when we left. It was very special when they brought out three small macaroons for my daughter and another lady and played happy birthday on the piano. A wonderful surprise!
My Aunt is 86 and really enjoyed the old world charm and ambiance of the Afternoon Tea experience. I work in Brown Thomas, Grafton Street and really appreciate the attention to detail, as this is something we pride ourselves on in our Store. Thank you for taking care of us.
We were celebrating our friends 40th, while we enjoyed the experience we felt rushed. The staff starting taken the food away and asking us if we wanted it boxed up. It wasn't a relaxed take your time experience. This was disappointing. Also we felt the brioche was kinda stale or not very fresh.
The atmosphere was lovely, piano etc but I haven't felt so rushed at afternoon tea anywhere else.
As this was our first time to the Shelbourne I was very disappointed that when we were seated, the first thing we were greeted with, was a broken chair. It should never have been placed there for us to sit at and if we were a politician or an A listed celebrity, there would be no way, that chair would be at their table. When we brought it to the staffs attention it was changed straight away, but we got a much less comfortable chair, which we were very disappointed with. A manager did apologise for this, but it was not acceptable & it left a sour taste in my mouth before the afternoon tea even began. It brought my rating of the hotel right down & the experience off to a bad start. The hotel staff were lovely and the food was amazing so I have given a 4 star rating and 5 star rating in some areas.
I was celebrating a special Birthday with my sister recently - It was our first time for afternoon tea at the Shelbourne - hopefully not our last. The staff were fantastic , attentive friendly but not intrusive. Food was wonderful and a real treat. A special word of thanks to your pianist who played beautifully throughout our meal and added greatly to the atmosphere.
Lovely dining room and gracious service. The food was not up to par. The Caesar salad was ordinary. The veal marsala had a heavy starchy sauce. The large shrimp, presented with whole body had very little tail meat....with 4 shrimp at $40 I expected better.
The desert of mixed fresh berries was served with warm zabiglione prepared table side, a nice touch. The wine prices were some of the highest we have seen.
We were so looking forward to our teatime experience with gorgeous sandwiches and cakes.
We were very disappointed not to have thinly sliced sandwiches with crusts removed...instead to have somewhat clumsy pieces of breads, ....but called sandwiches.
The cakes weren't to our taste in the main...and the scones were dry and rather stale and with a very small amount of cream. We were saying with family and left a goodly amount of food which was put into two lovely boxes and left with the porter to be collected within 2 hours. We returned for our boxes within that time, but.....the boxes had been given away to somebody else! However, we did get new boxes of cakes to take with us.
This tea is far too expensive, but the service is extremely good.
Great ecperience, food was wonderful. They catered for some tough dietary requirements, and the birthday macaroons were a great touch. Yhe selection of teas and service were 5 star. The only downside is when the bill came, staff were standing over the table while we put out the payment, and as we were splitting the bill it was a little awkward.
